BLOSSBURG, PA – A quick-moving fire destroyed a two-story building with a garage on the top floor at 325 Granger Street in Blossburg, PA early Monday morning, April 8, 2024.
Flames from the garage could be seen from the Route 15 Highway.
Blossburg fire personnel were rapidly on the scene and confirmed that the garage was fully involved shortly after 3:35 AM. By 3:37 AM a second alarm was issued.
Fire crews from Blossburg, Lawrenceville, Liberty, Mansfield, and Wellsboro all responded to the scene.
Several nearby neighbors came out to see what was going on as fire units arrived on the scene.
Firefighters battled the blaze for nearly two hours as temperatures hung around 29.
Early reports indicated that everyone was out of the home which sat next to the burning garage. There were also no injuries reported to the family or fire personnel on scene.
The Fire Marshal out of Lycoming County was requested around 4:45 AM. He will be investigating the cause of the fire later today.
The fire was reported out around 5:31 AM, approximately two hours after crews arrived on scene.
The homeowner was listed in public records as Kimberly Schoonover.
Great job by all departments and EMS crews that assisted at the scene.
Ruffed Grouse Society to do Woodcock Singing Ground Surveys

Smethport, Pa.: The Ruffed Grouse Society (RGS) has scheduled its singing ground surveys for woodcock for April 15. Members of the RGS Upland Bird Hunt (UBH) Chapter will be conducting the surveys, but other members of the public are invited to learn about the woodcock ‘sky dance’, one of nature’s truly unique courtship displays. Please register with John Dzemyan at jdzemyan@gmail.com if you plan to attend so information is available for everybody.
UBH Chapter members will meet between 6 and 6:30 pm at the Clermont Park in Clermont, McKean County. All members will be bringing a snack of some type to share – e.g., sausage, cheese, chips, dips. Once everybody has become familiar with other attendees, had a bite to eat, and have their woodcock survey information, the volunteers will head to their survey spots between 7-7:30 p.m. Most surveys will start after 8:00 p.m. and last 30-40 minutes as the sun sets.
The six survey routes out of Clermont were established by the US Geological Service decades ago, and have been monitored on an annual basis by volunteers within the RGS or the American Woodcock Society.
Come on out and learn what this fun volunteer activity is all about and how it benefits woodcock.
