Lois June McGuire, 98, of Bradford, formerly of Corwin Lane

Lois June McGuire, 98, of Bradford, formerly of Corwin Lane, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on March 31, 2026, at the Bradford Ecumenical Home.
June was born June 4, 1927, in Bradford, a daughter of Charles and Bernice (Spangler) Confer.
She graduated from Bradford Area High School in 1946.
On June 23, 1951, in Bradford, she married John “Jack” McGuire. They built a beautiful family of three children who will keep her legacy alive.
June worked various places throughout her career. She worked at the Dairybar on South Kendall Avenue, where she met the love of her life. June and Jack went on to own a small convenience store on South Kendall Avenue. She loved shopping and beautiful clothes, which led her to get a job at Tate’s clothing store on Main Street, and later at The Carousel clothing store. June also worked in the business office of the Bradford Regional Medical Center and in the cafeteria at Fretz Middle School.
She was a founding member of Sawyer Evangelical Church. She was proud to serve in various areas including teaching Sunday School and was a loyal prayer warrior. June loved sending cards to her church family and those in need of a smile. She enjoyed bowling in different leagues with her husband and family. June also loved tending to her flower beds around her home.
June was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend. She loved fiercely and would do anything for the people she loved. She enjoyed any time she was able to spend with family. Nobody put a smile on her face quite like her grandchildren could. June was incredibly proud of her children and grandchildren’s accomplishments and bragged of them any chance she got. From trips to Erie to spend Christmas Eve putting together toys for her grandchildren to find under the Christmas tree the next morning or going to any garage sale she could find with her daughter and granddaughter, June was always up for an adventure and brought enjoyment and smiles to any room she walked into.
Christmas was June’s favorite holiday, and you wouldn’t have to walk far into her home to know that about her. Her love of collectable Santas and Christmas mugs will be passed down to her family to cherish for years to come.
Most of all, June loved the Lord. That love overflowed into every aspect of her life and made any time spent with her such a treasured memory. Her life was full of testaments of God’s grace, faithfulness, and love right up until she took her last breath and entered into eternity with Him. While her family will spend the rest of their lives missing her, June is celebrating her homecoming seeing her loved ones she has so greatly missed and seeing her Savior face to face. Her family finds peace and comfort in knowing she is whole and healthy once again.
Remaining to cherish June’s memory are her children, Jack McGuire of Bradford, Tom (Eileen) McGuire of Erie, and Patti (John) Droney of Bradford; grandchildren, Amy Learn, John (Megan) McGuire, Ali (Alex) Nadolsky, Kristen McGuire and Mandi Droney; great-grandchildren, Emma Learn, Kennedy and Emery McGuire, Jack and Madison Nadolsky; sister-in-law Anna Confer; and several nieces and nephews.
Welcoming June home in heaven are her husband, John “Jack” McGuire, her parents Charles and Bernice Confer, siblings Floyd (Carolyn) Confer, Bill (Shirley) Confer, Marion Confer, and Nellie Confer.

Bradford’s Kelly Compton Selected as NPRC’s 2026 Commencement Speaker

Bradford native and Seneca Highlands Intermediate Unit 9 Director of Educational Services, Kelly Compton, has been selected as Northern Pennsylvania Regional College’s (NPRC) 2026 Commencement Speaker. The ceremony is slated to be held on Saturday, May 9, at Wilds Sonshine Factory, Inc. in Kane.
Compton is an educational leader, leadership coach, and advocate whose work is shaped by both professional expertise and lived experience. Raised in a lower-income, working-class family in McKean County, she understands firsthand the barriers that can make higher education and opportunity feel out of reach. Those experiences have deeply shaped her lifelong commitment to equity, perseverance, and expanding pathways for others. “The trajectory of my life was changed by teachers,” said Compton. “I was the first in my family to go to college, and if it wasn’t for the love and support of my teachers, I wouldn’t have gotten there. That I work in education now should speak volumes about the impact they had on me as a student in the Bradford Area School District. I am fortunate that I can give back to students and be of service in education both in Bradford and the region at large.”

LONGTIME DIRECTOR OF ADMISSIONS TO RETIRE FROM PITT-BRADFORD

BRADFORD, Pa. – When Alex Nazemetz of Allegany, N.Y., began working in college admissions in 1986, there were few websites and no search engines.
Forty years later, as associate vice president of enrollment management and director of admissions at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, he still likes to have his staff “pound the pavement,” visiting college fairs and high schools in person to create a more personal connection.
That doesn’t mean he hasn’t taken advantage of technology to communicate more easily with prospective students, but his heart has always been in talking face-to-face with young people and their families.
It’s a philosophy that has guided 26 years of service — and it’s one he’ll carry into retirement on Friday. Nazemetz came to Pitt-Bradford as director of admissions in 1999 after 13 years at his alma mater, St. Bonaventure University. Pitt-Bradford is measurably better for his tenure.
HG Holds Summer Musical Auditions

Step into a world of imagination, adventure, and unforgettable storytelling in “Big Fish,” the musical, based on the novel by Daniel Wallace and film adaptation by John August. Follow Will Bloom’s efforts to separate fact from myth in his dying father’s stories. Based on the novel by Daniel Wallace and the motion picture by John August, “Big Fish” has music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa. Like many musicals, this is a love story. But here the story is about the love between a father and son.
