Last week in review: Tennis, lacrosse and golf teams all saw action, with the men’s and women’s tennis teams both picking up two wins in United East Conference play.

Last week’s hometown highlights: Winning in singles against Penn State Abington on Tuesday were Josh Myers, of Hughesville, at No. 2, 6-2, 6-3; Logan Ogden, of South Williamsport, at No. 3, 7-5, 6-2; and Matt Williams, of Pompton Lakes, New Jersey, at No. 4, 6-1, 6-4. Taking their doubles matches were Kyle Shuler, of Williamsport-Myers at No. 1, 7-5; and Ogden-Williams at No. 2, 6-1.

On Friday at Alfred University, Miller and Williams had the most competitive matches, with Miller winning six games and Williams winning five.

At Penn State Berks on Saturday, winning in singles were Williams at No. 4, 7-5, 2-6, 6-4; Avery Hawk, of York Springs, at No. 5, 6-1, 6-4; and Valentino Barillaro, of Selinsgrove, at No. 6, 6-3, 6-3. Winning in doubles were Ogden-Williams at No. 2, 6-6 (7-2 tiebreaker), and Hawk-Barillaro at No. 3, 6-3.

On Saturdays, April 11 and 25, the Wellsboro Community Concert Association is hosting the last two concerts of its 2025-2026 season.

The all-star bluegrass supergroup, the John Jorgenson Bluegrass Band will take the Coolidge Theatre stage in Wellsboro at 7:30 p.m. next Saturday.

The four legendary, award-winning musicians featured in J2B2 are: three vocalists John Jorgenson on acoustic guitar and mandolin; Herb Pedersen on banjo and acoustic guitar and Patrick Sauber on acoustic guitar. The fourth bandsman is Mark Fain on bass.

March 2026 did not disappoint those who think March weather is like a Model T Ford. Just enough spring to make your butt ache. Most days were cold, wet, and windy too.

This year, we received 5.21″ of rain and melted precipitation.  Last year, we received 2.50″ of rain and melted precipitation. 

This year we received 4″ of snow, and last year the same amount.

Pine Creek is running full and looks very healthy.  

Of course, the heavy rain is causing the flowers to grow, and the grass is growing too. I know that makes the lawn mowers very happy.  Get those tractors out and cranked up.

I have been spending some time in Wellsboro at The Country Terrace.  No, it is not a resort!! While I am there, my daughter, Alyson, is doing the daily observations. I appreciate her excellent coverage. Between the two of us, we will keep things covered.

OLEAN, NY — The Mildred Milliman Radiation Medicine Center will look a little different for patients in the region as Olean General Hospital (OGH), a Kaleida Health facility, plans to reopen with a new state-of-the-art linear accelerator in mid-May. The new linear accelerator as well as additional updates to the radiation center marks a $4.1 million investment into the community and OGH’s commitment of keeping cancer care local.

Richard R. RECIO, 64, of Wellsville, NY, died Monday, March 30, 2026, following a brief illness. 

Born May 16, 1961, in Utica, he was the son of Joaquin “Joe” and Anne Hinz Recio. He was a graduate of Immaculate Conception School (1975), Wellsville High School (1979), Alfred State College (1981), and SUNY Fredonia (1983). Rick enjoyed many rewarding careers, including working at the family Pepsi business, Carpet Town, Adelphia, Elexco, and Land Solutions. 

Surviving are: a daughter, Katherine Recio of Rome; two sons, Daniel Recio and Mitchell Recio, both of Fairport; the mother of his children, Sarah Campbell of Rochester; four sisters, Susan (Scott) Walters, Denise (Robert) Cruttenden, Jeanette (Peter) Haupt, and Colleen (Jeffrey) Jorolemon; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents. 

Rick was known and loved for his wit and sharp sense of humor. Prior to his death, he embarked on a “Rick’s World Tour,” traveling to destinations including New York City, Key West, and his beloved Hilton Head. A “100% Republican,” he adored Fox News and reading the latest on his computer. He had a love for cars (not Pintos), antiques, and architecture. He had a memory like a “steel trap,” fondly recalling family vacation stories and knowing not only the location of the trip but also the make, model, and year of the car that was driven and what he ate for dinner. He had an impeccable taste for interior design and excelled at making a house a home. 

The Potter County Education Council serving Potter and McKean Counties has three openings for part-time Career and Vocational Mentor-Aides to serve within the following school districts: Galeton Area School District, Oswayo Valley School District and Smethport Area School District.

These part-time positions are available beginning the 2026-2027 school year (approximately 25 hours per week).   It is anticipated that this will be a recurring position each school year (approximately 40 weeks each year).
