Beverly A. Dutton, 82, formerly of Bishop Street, Cuba, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2025 at Cuba Memorial Hospitals Palliative Care Unit after a brief illness.
Born on May 25, 1943, in Cuba, she was a daughter of Hawley and Alice Boyd. On September 28, 1968, in Black Creek, she married Glenn O. Dutton, who predeceased her on September 21, 2020.
Beacon Light Behavioral Health Launches Teen Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program
Beacon Light Behavioral Health (BLBHS), an affiliate of Journey Health System, is proud to announce the launch of its new teen psychiatric rehabilitation program, Horizons. This program is designed to provide a fun, safe, and structured environment for teens to focus on their mental health care. The program is tailored specifically for youth in Forest & Warren Counties, ages 14 to 18-years old, to provide them with the opportunity to engage in meaningful care while they aim to address the growing mental health needs of Pennsylvania’s young people.
A 2023 Pennsylvania Youth Survey showed that 37.3% of 6th to 12th graders in Pennsylvania felt sad or depressed most days in the past 12 months. 16.1% have seriously considered suicide. This demonstrates the importance of accessible and effective mental health programs like Horizons.
David S. “Poppy” Thompson, 80, Of Bolivar, NY
David S. Thompson “beloved father, Poppy, and friend”
David S. “Poppy” Thompson passed away on May 30, 2025, at his Bolivar home, in the presence of family. He was 80 years old. Dave spent most of his childhood in Rochester, New York, mainly raised by his grandmother.
He didn’t take up residency in Bolivar until he met Ruth Colley Thompson. She was attracted to him because of his smile and his dance moves. They married on February 6, 1970.
Dave was immediately cast into the role of stepfather to Ruth’s four children. The household was a lively one, to say the least.

Linda Lee POSTLEWAIT, 81, of Port Allegany, PA, passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, May 30, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born May 15, 1944, at the Mountain Clinic in Olean, NY, Linda was the beloved daughter of Wayne and Mary Kio Culver.
A proud member of the Port Allegany High School Class of 1961, she pursued her passion for education at Clarion University, earning her degree in 1965. On January 5, 1963, in Port Allegany, Linda married the love of her life, Malon Postlewait, who survives.

He attended Northern Potter High School and studied cosmetology at BOCES. Michael was employed by BJ’s Wholesale Club in Ithaca. He enjoyed kayaking, camping, and bike riding.

Seth A. Neubert, 37, of St. Marys, passed away on Monday, May 26, 2025 following injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Clearfield County
He was born August 13, 1987, a son of David Neubert and Shari Byers Spochacz, who survive.
Seth was a graduate of Ridgway Area High School. He worked as a chef for several restaurants over the years, where he met and made many friends, including Keystone Corner Lunch, where he was instrumental in the operation and growth of the business. He also worked as a chef for the Straub Tap Room and Duffer’s Tavern in Treasure Lake. He also recently worked for Art Heary and Sons Furniture. Seth was known for being extremely hardworking and an amazing chef.

He was born June 2, 1935, in Houston, TX, the son of the late Robert “Bobbie” Lyle, Jr. and Linna L. (Carpenter) Lyle and would have celebrated his 90th birthday on Monday. He married the former Naomi Fay Moses on November 23, 1956, and celebrated 65 years of marriage until her passing on August 4, 2022.

Born on Monday, May 31, 1954, in Wellsville, NY, she was a daughter of Charles and Mildred Jones Briggs. She was raised by her grandmother, Ruba Briggs, after the death of parents.
On July 14, 1998 in the First Church of God in Eldred, she married Thomas J. “Coop” Cooper, who passed away on May 21, 2015.
Galeton Weather Report May 2025
The seasons are somewhat mixed up this year for Galeton. This year we had March in April with windy cold weather plus some snow .
In May we experienced April showers and very cool days. Perhaps May flowers will show up in June.
Morning temperatures were mainly in the mid-forties with a few low 50s thrown in. Afternoon readings were mostly in the 50’s and mid 60’s. There was a lot of cloud cover.
May had 18 days with measurable rainfall 6.48″ was measured. Last year we received 5.38″ We had 11 foggy mornings and three thunderstorms.
The National Weather Service reported that statewide it was one of the wettest Mays on record. A few weeks ago southeast Pa. was experiencing drought conditions and they were dealing with flood warnings this week.
Pine Creek looks very good. Many boaters are in the water and fishing is good. I understand there are still some large tagged trout swimming around. Of course the grass is growing nicely. That pleases those who enjoy mowing. Driving around the county this morning it looks like the county is mowed very well. Just like you would see on a golf course.Watch for June flowers.Henry W. Jordan Michael Long, 34, of Coudersport passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
He was born July 10, 1990, in Coudersport, the son of the late David Allen Long and Ruthann (Lent) Long of Coudersport.
Jordan was a graduate of Coudersport High School, Class of 2008. He currently worked for Easton Cooper Power Systems, Olean, NY. Jordan attended Sartwell Creek Union Church, Port Allegany, and was a member of Leadership Cattaraugus, Olean. Jordan loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, kayaking, and camping. He also loved riding his motorcycle and was a loving and devoted father.
Accelerated Reader Awards Presented
AR (Accelerated Reader) Awards were presented during the annual Awards Assembly at Port Allegany High School. Making the presentation was English teacher Matt Lawton.
Senior recipients were Aidan Clark with 1479 points, Lily Madison with 1496 points, Willow Sauers with 1623 points, Thomas Beeson with 2203 points and Grace Finn with 5643 points. Underclassmen awards were presented to Aliyah Bennett in 7th grade; Breah Fillhart in 8th grade; Mallory Johnson in 9th grade; Madison Dinch, in 10th grade and Kendra Meade in 11th grade.

Break The Chains First Chicken BBQ Fundraiser
Break The Chains will be holding their first Chicken BBQ Fundraiser at the Shop N Save parking lot in Port Allegany. Meals are $12 each and include:
1/2 Chicken, baked beans, Macaroni salad and a roll. All proceeds benefit Break The Chains Coalition and their fight against drug and alcohol addiction and self harm and suicide awareness and prevention. Memorial Day Services Were Held in Port Allegany
Memorial Day Services were held in Port Allegany with a Bridge Ceremony for those lost at sea, followed by a service at the VMI Pavilion.
The Brooklynside Bridge ceremony was led by Chuck Yeager with Roy Kio and the Port Allegany Honor Guard and Dan Dzubak dropping flower petals into the water to remember those lost at sea. .
The ceremony at the VMI was also led by Chuck Yeager and included the Port Allegany Honor Guard. A roll call was done, remembering the following:

The Eastman Award is given in memory of Lloyd and Dolores Eastman to two graduating seniors at PAHS who fit this description by Bryan Scavnak: Some kids are smarter than you, Some kids have cooler clothes than you. Both Mr. and Mrs. Eastman were graduates of Port Allegany High School. . They lived their lives being generous, being happy for others and doing the right thing.
