Smethport – Michael Zane Fay, Jr., 80, of Smethport, passed away Sunday (August 30, 2026).

He was born June 15, 1946 in Reno, NV, the son of Michael Zane and Charlotte (Anderson) Fay. On June 7, 1969, in Farmers Valley, PA, he married Patricia A. Cook, who survives.

Michael was a 1964 graduate of Smethport Area High School. He served in the United States Marine Corps during Vietnam.

He attended Mansfield University, receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in elementary education.

Mr. Fay was an elementary school teacher at the Port Allegany Elementary School for over 35 years, retiring in 2007.

He was a devout member of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, Smethport.

In addition to his wife, Patricia, he is survived by:

Three daughters: Kelley F. (James) Ladlee, Shannon M. Fay, and Kristi D. (Thomas) Nourse

Two sons: Ryan M. Fay and Michael J. Fay

Ten grandchildren

Three sisters: Roberta Schrubb, Nancy Higley and Margaret (Kenneth) Johnson

As well as several nieces and nephews

In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by a son, Bruce K. Fay in 2019.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, September 11, 2026 at 11AM at the St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, Smethport, with the Rev. Joseph Dougherty, pastor as Celebrant. Burial will be in St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Smethport. Military Honors will be accorded by the American Legion Honor Guard.
