Marvin K. JAMES, 62, of Belmont, NY, died on Monday, February 12, 2024 at his home after a long illness.
Marvin Kenneth James was born on October 16, 1961, to Millicent (Stuck) King and Leland James. His father died when he was eight years old. With his mother unable to care for all the children, he and his siblings were placed in foster care. He was in the care of Robert and Frances Ames of Friendship and then arrived at the home of James and Lois Balcom in 1970. He was accepted and considered as one of their own. He continued to be close to both foster families up until his death.
He graduated from Friendship High School in 1981. After High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany before coming back to the states. In his younger years, family remembers him driving his motorcycle in the dead of winter in Friendship and the surrounding area. If you were a stranger in a store, Marv always made it a point to say “How are ya doing today?” and may have even offered to help you put your groceries in your car.
He was always down for conversation and was often found at the Modern Diner in Wellsville having coffee among the locals. He was always willing to give a helping hand everywhere he went. If family or friends needed help, he was there. Marv will also always be remembered for his witty personality and many of his signature lines, “See you on the flip side, or in agreement, “10-4!” will be missed by all!
He was one of fifteen children, along with foster family that were a part of who he held close.
Tionesta, Pa.: Want to help wildlife? Volunteers for the Ruffed Grouse Society (RGS) plan the renewal of alder for wildlife at Tionesta Lake for the second year in 2024. Woodcock, ruffed grouse, warblers, rabbits, mice, voles, bobcats, and fox all use the habitat created by an alder thicket.
As alder grows and gets too old, it starts to ‘lay down’ and roots will decay. But, a simple and proven wildlife habitat management technique of stump cutting will remove the older stems and put abundant sunlight back on the ground and cut stump, and cause the alder to put up abundant new growth. This new growth will provide habitat for many birds and small mammals over the next thirty years after the stump cutting.
House Republicans launch initiative for entrepreneurs and small business
HARRISBURG – Recognizing governmental burdens should never deter Pennsylvanians from pursuing their own path to prosperity, House Republicans are pushing the Legislature to act on the “Main Street Entrepreneurship Initiative.” The package of bills, led by House Commerce Committee Republican Chair Rep. Joe Emrick (R-Northampton), would make the dream of owning one’s own business, and growing it here in Pennsylvania, more accessible for every person in the Commonwealth.
“Entrepreneurs and small business owners are the backbone of our communities,” Emrick said. “They are the ones investing in our Main streets, hiring our friends and neighbors, and making our communities great places to live. We owe it to every Pennsylvanian to make it as simple as possible to chase their dream and grow their business.”

RSVPs are requested. Sign up at www.RepCauser.com or call the Coudersport office at 814-274-9769.
HARRISBURG – In recognition of National Entrepreneurship Week, House Republican Leader Bryan Cutler (R-Lancaster) said the Pennsylvania House Republican Caucus will be focusing its efforts on getting government out of the way of business creation with a newly unveiled Main Street Entrepreneurship Initiative legislative package.
“At the heart of The Keystone Commitment is the need to create a thriving economy by making it easier to do business in Pennsylvania and making it easier to get a job here. We must also invite opportunity through competition if we want to put this Commonwealth on a sound economic footing,” Cutler said.
By Reps. Clint Owlett (R-Tioga/Bradford)and Tina Pickett (R-Bradford/Wyoming)
It’s 4:30 a.m. and your phone wakes you with that incredibly annoying sound and you quickly hit snooze. You have that nasty feeling in your gut it’s going to be that kind of day and come to find out your gut was right. One of those days where nothing seems to go right. Relationships are stressed, things break at work, the truck starts making a funny sound and you get a text from your son’s teacher asking for a meeting to talk. You finally make it home after a long day of work realizing you forgot to fix the fire, the water line froze again and now there’s no water. As you did throughout the day, you responded to the immediate need. Get a fire going, thaw the water line, call the teacher, figure the issue out on the truck, and finally sit down for a cup of decaf coffee with your wife to connect and hear about her day.
That’s when it happens. The loud, high-pitch tones go off alerting you to the need from your volunteer fire department. You wait anxiously to hear what the 911 dispatcher is going to say. You get another feeling in your gut. This time one of duty, service and community. The dispatcher informs the department they are due to respond to a fully involved house fire. For a quick moment, you think, please not tonight. After the day I just had, now this? But then your wife looks at you and says, “I’ll start the truck, get going, another family needs you. I’ll be there with the auxiliary when you get back with hot coffee.”
