James A. “Jim” Moore, 87, of Bradford, PA passed away on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at UPMC Cole, Coudersport.
He was born on July 29, 1936 in San Jose, CA, the son of the late Rosalyn “Rose” Bushine Moore.
He attended Willow Glen High School, Willow Glen, CA and Bethany University, Scotts Valley, CA; where he studied Pastoral Theology.
On August 24, 2012 in the Abundant Assembly of God Church he married Erma J. “Jan” Yeagley who survives.
He was employed by General Motors, Lockport, NY for thirty years, retiring in 1999. He also pastored the former McCrae Brook Wesleyan Methodist Church from 1969 until 1974.
He was a U.S. Army veteran who served from April 1956 until his honorable discharge in April 1959.

On December 14th, the Port Allegany Rotary held a Christmas Party at the local Moose Lodge and the Early Childhood Education students from the Seneca Highlands Career & Technical Center were invited to the luncheon to assist. Area children were given gifts from Santa Clause and the students were able to pass out gifts as helpers.
Groups of students also learned the importance of giving back to their communities by volunteering to wrap gifts at the Port Allegany Elementary School’s Secret Santa event held last week.
Thank you to all these students who helped with wrapping, serving food, and sharing in the joy of the holiday.
In general, the boards of county commissioners in Pennsylvania are bipartisan — they typically have at least one Republican and one Democrat. But in Potter County, a successful write-in campaign this year means Republicans will hold all three seats.
Robert Rossman lost his bid for county commissioner in the 2023 Republican primary — by 11 votes.
But as Rossman notes, the county leans very Republican.
“Looking back at previous elections, the numbers were there to accomplish this,” he said.
So, Rossman waged a write-in campaign in the November General Election — and won. While the campaign and outcome may be unusual, it is not unheard of.
Deer hunting isn’t over yet; the after-Christmas seasons await.
And in the newly created Deer Management Assistance Program (DMAP) unit spanning more than 140,000 acres in Dauphin, Northumberland and Schuylkill counties, hunters have even more time and additional opportunities.
You could be one of them.
Each hunter can purchase up to two permits to hunt in DMAP Unit 6396, and more than 3,500 permits remained available this week.
Within this unit, the Pennsylvania Game Commission has extended the late archery and flintlock muzzleloader deer seasons and will hold an extended firearms season for antlerless deer, as well.
These after-Christmas seasons all will run from Dec. 26, 2023 to Jan. 27, 2024 within DMAP Unit 6396, as well as in Wildlife Management Units 2B, 5C and 5D. In the rest of the state – including the areas of Wildlife Management Units 4C and 4E outside of DMAP Unit 6396 – there is no extended firearms deer season, and the late archery and flintlock deer seasons run from Dec. 26, 2023 to Jan. 15, 2024.
Linda L. (Garner) Graver, age 76, of Wellsboro, PA, died on Tuesday, December 12, 2023.
She was born on June 17, 1947 in Lancaster, PA a daughter of the late Clyde and Martha (Landis) Garner and stepdaughter of the late Charles A. Hess. Linda was married to H. Stanley “Stan” Graver for 59 years and had worked in the Wellsboro area for over 35 years as a real estate agent and appraiser.
She enjoyed reading, working in her flower gardens, vacationing at the beach and loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Deacon Daniel P. Reilly, 70, of Roulette, PA, passed away Thursday (December 14, 2023) at his home.
He was born November 4, 1953 in Staten Island, NY, the son of John and Margaret (Chorman) Reilly. On March 26 1971, in Staten Island, NY, he married Frances E. Lackmann, who survives.
Dcn. Reilly was a 1971 graduate of the Susan Wagner High School. He graduated from the City University of New York, Staten Island and received a master’s degree in education from Gannon University.
Dcn. Reilly worked for AT&T for 25 years and was a dispatcher for Potter County Emergency Services. He was an EMT and Firefighter for the Roulette Fire Department.
He was a member of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church of Smethport and was the Deacon Assistant at the Parish.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons: Nathaniel P. (Jan) Reilly of LaGrange Park, IL, Benjamin T. (Elizabeth) Reilly of Nags Head, NC, and Tashyme (Tarika) Reilly of Queens, NY. Eight Grandchildren: Noah Langdon, Fionn, Nicholas, Matthew, Declan, Benjamin, Jamir, and Travaun Reilly. Three brothers; John and Patrick Reilly, both living in AZ, and James (Karen) Reilly of West Chester, NY
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Dennis and Raymond Reilly.
Visitation will be held in St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, Smethport on Monday, Dec. 18, 2023 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2023 at 11:00 am in St Elizabeth of Hungary Church, Smethport, with The Most Reverend Lawrence T. Perico, Bishop of Erie, as celebrant. Burial will be in the St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Smethport.

On December 15 at 7:30 am Bradford was dispatched to Interstate Parkway/ Limestone Run Area near the NY border for a land rescue of a person who fell 15 feet from a tree stand. Limestone Fire has also been dispatched. This is a 60 year old male with leg and back injuries

(MCKEAN COUNTY, Pennsylvania; December 14, 2023): District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer reports that a Rixford, Pennsylvania man charged with Rape and other crimes has been sentenced at a sentencing hearing at the McKean County Courthouse.
Justin Nichols pled guilty to Rape and False Imprisonment for committing a sexual assault against a woman in Rixford last year and refusing to let her leave the room.
The case was investigated by Trooper Brandon Long of the Pennsylvania State Police.
Nichols was sentenced to state prison for 4 years to 9 years plus 3 years of consecutive probation.
Other terms of his sentence include paying the lab fees associated with DNA testing of the rape kit, sex offender treatment, no contact with the victim or her immediate family members, and no unsupervised contact with juvenile females. He will have to register as a sex offender under the law formerly known as Megan’s Law. He is not eligible for early parole.
Clifford J. Pfoutz, 85, of 631 Virginia Road, St. Marys, PA passed away surrounded by his family, Thursday, December 14, 2023 at Penn Highlands Elk.
He was born December 16, 1937 in St. Joseph’s Convent, St. Marys, son of the late Maynard and Anna Brennen Pfoutz. He was a lifelong resident and contributor to the area and his country. Cliff was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of 1956. He then served his country in the United States Marine Corp. Following his military service, he was employed at Keystone Carbon for over 40 years where he retired as a machinist.
On May 9, 1959, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Cliff married the late Patricia A. Frey, who preceded him in death on December 1, 1998.
PA Route 6 Façade Program in the Northeastern PA a Success
Route 6 Alliance has announced the award recipients for the PA Route 6 Façade Program in Lackawanna County. To date, the program is funding 24 projects in Lackawanna County totaling over $246,000 in façade improvements. The success of this year’s façade program was a culmination of partnerships among PA Route 6 Alliance, the Lackawanna Heritage Valley National and State Heritage Area, Lackawanna County Planning Commission, Lackawanna County Visitors Bureau, and NeighborWorks Northeastern Pennsylvania.

On December 14 at 7:46 pm Wellsboro, Mansfield, and Blossburg were dispatched to 644 Fords Glen Rd. in Ward Twp. for a fully engulfed camper on fire threatening structures. The House Is not on fire yet but the siding is melting
(MCKEAN COUNTY, Pennsylvania; December 14, 2023): District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer reports that the Duke Center man convicted of Rape of a Child and other crimes last week has pled guilty to possessing child pornography in another case during a status conference held today at the McKean County Courthouse.
He was scheduled for trial on the case for next week.
Sebastian VanCamp was charged by Trooper Robert Whyel of the Pennsylvania State Police with Possessing Child Pornography.
