NPRC Launches Low-Cost EMT Course in Potter County

ROULETTE – Northern Pennsylvania Regional College’s Workforce Development department is providing an opportunity for Potter County area residents to receive training to become an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). The cost of this course is $350.00, but Potter County residents may be eligible for reimbursement if they complete the course with a passing grade, thanks to support from the County of Potter. Residents from outside of Potter County are also welcome to sign up for this course offering. Before beginning the course, students are required to complete a placement test to determine class eligibility.
PennDOT – District 2 – PennDOT Places Speed Display Boards on Routes in Centre County

Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) placed radar-controlled speed display boards this week on Route 2006 and Route 3040, both in Centre County. The boards are intended to remind drivers to obey the posted speed limit and aid in curbing speeding, a common type of aggressive driving behavior.
PennDOT – District 3 – Resurfacing Project Continues on Route 87 in Fairfield Township, Lycoming County

Montoursville, PA – Motorists are advised a milling and resurfacing project continues on Route 87 in Montoursville Borough, Fairfield Township, Upper Fairfield Township and Plunketts Creek Township, Lycoming County.
The week of Monday, August 19, 2024, the contractor, Glenn O. Hawbaker will continue resurfacing operations along Route 87 between the Interstate 180 overpass in Montoursville Borough and north to Pier 87 Bar and Grill in Plunketts Creek Township.
PennDOT – District 3 – Embankment Stabilization Project Continues on Route 44 in Lycoming County

Montoursville, PA – Motorists are advised that a two-year embankment stabilization project continues on Route 44 between Route 973 and Waterville in Cummings Township and between Route 220 and Torbert Lane in Watson Township, Lycoming County.

Louella Mae Potter, age 80 of Virginia, formerly of Elkland, PA passed away on July 14, 2023.
She was born on December 11, 1942 in Elkland, PA. Louella was a homemaker; she raised and looked after her six children with her husband, Harry J. Potter. She enjoyed playing bingo, poker, mobile games, watching old country western shows like ‘Hee Haw’ and playing card games.

Robert H. Colegrove, age 77 a lifelong resident of Lawrenceville, passed away on Friday, August 9, 2024 at Broad Acres Nursing Home in Wellsboro.
Born March 5, 1947 in Wellsboro, he was the son of the late Robert W. and Alice M. (Seelye) Colegrove. Bob proudly served in the US Air Force, was a Vietnam Veteran and had just received the Quilt of Valor on Thursday. He retired from Corning Inc., enjoyed hunting and trapping and was a former member of the Bath and Elmira Coin Clubs. Bob was an avid collector; he collected US and World Coins, wildlife art and guns.

PennDOT – District 3 – Traffic Congestion Likely During Little League World Series

Montoursville, PA – Motorists traveling to the greater Williamsport area this week and next week should expect congestion on local roadways, especially Interstate 180 eastbound and westbound, Route 220 northbound, and Route 15 northbound and southbound in Lycoming County, due to the Little League World Series.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) advises motorists to be prepared for an increase of traffic over the next two weeks and should plan for traffic delays, particularly in the South Williamsport and Williamsport areas.
Motorists should be prepared for changing traffic patterns, slow-moving or stopped vehicles and especially be on the alert for pedestrians crossing streets and highways.

One of the most unique and explosive motions in sports is the overhead throwing motion. Throwing a baseball, softball, or football overhead places extremely high stresses on the shoulder and elbow. In order to put velocity into a thrown ball, power is generated from the ground with the lower body, transferred through the core into the arm, ultimately propelling the ball forward.
Five Receive CRCF-Managed Memorial Scholarships

OLEAN, N.Y., August 13 – Five area graduates have received memorial scholarships administered by the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation.
Preston Conner received the Deputy Wayne Krieger and Carole Krieger Memorial Scholarship for $500.
The scholarship is available to a Cattaraugus-Allegany BOCES criminal justice student from any of the three BOCES locations, pursuing a degree in law enforcement, or to area students intending pursue studies in criminal justice and related fields of study. The fund was established in memory of sheriff’s deputy Wayne Krieger by his family. The name of the scholarship was changed in 2019 to also honor Mr. Krieger’s wife, Carol Krieger, who passed away in January of that year.

Motorists who travel Route 49 in Westfield Township, Tioga County are advised the road is closed between Pritchard Hollow Road and Crance Brood Road as a precaution due to undermining at the bridge.
On Tuesday, August 14, 2024, a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation maintenance crew established long-term detours to be in effect while a repair project can be completed.

Judith A. Kennedy, 85, formerly of 1249 Salt Rising Road, Bolivar, passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at Cuba Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Born on July 10, 1939, in Olean, she was a daughter of William and Evelyne Eaton Anderson. On May 3, 1974, in Olean, she married Donald Kennedy who predeceased her in 2003.
She was a graduate of Olean High School. She had worked for Alcas Cutlery and then was employed by the Cattaraugus County Rehabilitation Center as a Direct Support Professional for many years prior to her retirement.
Judith was past member of the Olean Kennel Club. She enjoyed playing euchre, playing cards, and Bingo
