• Laurie Angood will be teaching a Beginner Watercolor Class on May 24 from 1 – 3.  In this class students will practice painting a landscape using one color, focusing on color value and other compositional techniques to describe their subject.  Price of the class is $35.00 and includes all materials. 

• Brenda Bonczar and Lisa Bretz will be teaching a Kids Sewing Class for ages 9 and up on May 28 from 3:00 – 5:30. In this class, students will be making their own ‘Stuffy.’  Price of the class is $30.00.  All materials provided

• Basket maker, Cathy Snyder, will be teaching a ‘Here Ya Go’ Flatware Basket Class on Saturday, May 31 starting at 9:30. Price of the class is All supplies included.  Bring a snack or lunch.

• Cathy Snyder will also be teaching a French Bread or Twill Cat’s Head Basket Class on June 7 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.  Price of the class is $50.00.  All Supplies Included.  Bring a snack or Lunch.

Bradford, PA – May 2025 — The Willow Creek Sportsman’s Club / Stanley Grove Jr. MemorialScholarship Committee, is proud to announce the recipient of its inaugural 2025 scholarship award. This newly established scholarship recognizes and supports a graduating senior from the McKean County area who exemplifies a passion for the outdoors and embodies the values of conservation, mentorship, and community involvement. After a competitive selection process, Isabella Prince, a senior at Bradford Area High School, has been awarded the 2025 Willow Creek Sportsman’s Club / Stanley Grove Jr. Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,000. Isabella plans to attend Gannon University this fall, pursuing a career in medicine through the Physician Assistant/Pre-Medicine program.

A standout student and leader, Isabella has served as class president for three consecutive years and as student body president for one. She is a two-time inductee of the National Honor Society, a United Way Ambassador, and captain of her high school soccer team. Her scholarship essay reflected on her deep connection to the outdoors, her active contributions to conservation efforts, and the influential mentors who shaped her journey. Her vision for the future includes not only academic and athletic excellence, but also a strong commitment to community service and environmental stewardship.

Julia R. Hackett, 67, of St. Marys, passed away at her home on Monday, May 19, 2025, following a lengthy illness.

She was born on April 7, 1958 in St. Marys, PA, a daughter of the late James Dornish and Helen Samick Dornish Beck Fredrickson.

On May 5, 1984, in St. Marys, she married John C. Hackett, who survives. Together they shared more than 41 years of love, laughter, and marriage.

Leadership Elk Cameron (LEC) participants visited the State Capitol in early May. The group met with Senator Dush’s Chief of Staff, Representatives Armanini and Causer, and representatives of the Pennsylvania Treasury. The Senator and Representatives engaged the group in discussions about how state government functions, how laws are introduced and amended, as well as concerns in our communities and how to address them.

George P. Dubots, Jr.                “beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend”

George P. Dubots, Jr., 79, a lifelong resident of Coudersport, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at UPMC Cole, Coudersport.

Born on Tuesday, January 29, 1946, in Coudersport, he was a son of George P. Sr. and Helen E. Pekarski Dubots. 

George was a graduate of Coudersport High School, Class of 1963.  He furthered his education at Lock Haven University.

George, who was retired, was employed for many years at Pure Carbon and was additionally employed by Maple Manor in Port Allegany.

George was a member of St. Eulalia Catholic Church in Coudersport.  He was a man of great faith having sent daily blessings by Facebook Messenger to family and friends.  George was very committed to the AA program as a mentor for over 45 years for anyone in need.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He helped his brother with the family business, Jerry’s Meat Processing in Coudersport.  He enjoyed all sports, especially the sports his children and grandchildren participated in.  He loved his dogs and many others of friends and family.  His greatest love was his family.

Left to cherish his memory are a son, George P. (Vicky) Dubots III of Coudersport; a daughter-in-law, Jodi L. (Anderson) Dubots of Temecula, California; five grandchildren, Darian Dubots, Damon Dubots, Cole Dubots, Dana (Hunter) Redmond, and Callie Dubots, who all lovingly called George, “Fishing Grandpa”; and a great-grandson, Archer F. Redmond who George was elated to welcome to the family.  Also left to cherish his memory are two bonus grandchildren, Devin (Myk) Fox and Garrett (Macie) Kio; two bonus great-grandchildren, Anna Bean and Michael Bean; a sister, Frances C. Carpenter of Coudersport; a sister-in-law, Jenny Pekarski of Croydon, PA; several nieces and nephews; dear friends, Jim and Tammy Harkins, Jim and Kristin Gavin, Tim Schoener, and many others too numerous to list individually.

In addition to his parents, George was predeceased by a son, John P. Dubots; three brothers, James W. Pekarski, Joseph A. Dubots, and Jerome F. Dubots; a brother-in-law, Michael J. Carpenter, Sr; and two nephews, Michael J. Carpenter, Jr. and James W. Pekarski, Jr.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Eulalia Catholic Church, Coudersport, on a date and time to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in George’s name may be made to his son’s memory and legacy, The John P. Dubots Scholarship Fund, c/o Citizens & Northern Bank, 10 N. Main Street, Coudersport, PA 16915; to Alcoholics Anonymous on their online Contributions portal; or charity of the donor’s choice.

George’s family has entrusted his care and cremation arrangements to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.

Port Allegany Wine Walk founders and organizers George and Susan Riley attended the monthly meeting of the Port Allegany Women’s Club to present checks to the club for their Small Town Christmas Project and to the Port Allegany Historical Society. Now in its 7th year, the Wine Walk has raised over $40,000 for local groups.  Past donations include $4000 to the Star Hose Fire Company #1 in year one of the Wine Walk; they collected $2,200  for the  Port Allegany Recreation Authority/Community Pool – even though there was no walk that year due to COVID; $6000 in year three to PAAS; $6,500 in year four to the S. W. Smith Library; $7,750 was given to Youth Sports in year five and the largest donation to date was given in 2024 to the Port Center/50 Plus Club in the amount of $8000.  Donations to the PAWC and Historical Society totaled $7600. 

The congregation at the Evangelical Covenant Church celebrated Confirmation Sunday during the morning worship service on May 18th.  After two years of confirmation classes, four students were confirmed.  They were Aiden Bliss, Alayna Palmer, Lillianne Reed and Delaney Stromberg.  These students participated in the worship service from beginning to end, even delivering the sermon.  Also participating were first year confirmation students Cooper Bliss, Gillian Stromberg and Iziah Petruzzi.  They are pictured with their confirmation teacher and pastor of the church, J.
