PennDOT Potter County Maintenance Work Schedule for the Week of August 18
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced the following schedule of maintenance activities in Potter County the week of August 18. PennDOT performs year-round maintenance in its mission to provide a safe, efficient transportation system, and the scope of work in Potter County for the coming week is as follows:
Mechanized Patching
· Route 6 between Old Route 6 in Ulysses Township and Red Angus Lane in Pike Township. Monday, August 18, through Friday, August 22. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours.
Mechanized patching is used to patch limited roadway areas that have extensive potholes, large areas of cracked pavement, and depressions. If mechanized patching was not performed, the damaged road surface would further deteriorate, resulting in PennDOT needing to completely rebuild the road or perform more costly corrective measures.
Mark Murray Miller, 74 of Roulette, PA
Mark Murray Miller of Roulette, PA passed away at Buffalo General Medical Center following a stroke, on August 15, 2025, at the age of 74.
He was born in Buffalo, NY, on May 12, 1951, and raised in Colden, NY. He was the second child born to the late Richard and Shirley Miller of Springville, NY.
He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia, married for almost 52 years.
PROUD and loving father to three daughters: Regina McCartney-Mackay(Jeremy), Nicole Jenette Miller(Steve), Mindy Elniski(Pete). He is also survived by 6 grandchildren: Thane, Erik, Carter, Katrina, Bryce, and Grant, who lovingly called him “EE”.
Also surviving are 5 siblings: Margo, Marie(Rich), Marla(Jim), Marlon, Martin(Patty).Mark graduated from Griffith Institute in Springville, NY in 1969.He earned a BS in Geology from SUNY Fredonia, NY in 1973. In 1973, he started working at the Red Wing Company in Fredonia, NY.
In his 33 years there, he worked his way up from ketchup palletizer to Vice President of Procurement. The family moved from New York to Kansas, Colorado, then back to New York as the company changed ownership through the years. In 2006, after retiring from that business, he started his own broker/consultant business, which he continued to the present. In 2015, Mark and Pat moved to Roulette, PA, enamored by the beauty and peace of the mountains and the river.
An avid outdoorsman, Mark loved fishing, hunting, and travel. On one of his many fishing expeditions to Alaska, he and his four buddies brought home 400 pounds of fish! He hunted in PA, NY, CO, TX. How perfect to spend his later years in God’s Country where he could fish and hunt in the backyard of his Camp!
Mark and Pat travelled to many national and international locations, a favorite being Australia. Two of his favorite expressions were: “Travel while you can” and “Get Er Done”. And they did!
Mark was a quiet, thoughtful, patient, intelligent gentleman who loved his family and had a deep respect for nature. He will be missed by many. As per Mark’s wishes, there will be no service or visitation. The family will honor Mark privately.

Federal jury convicts Jamestown man of multiple drug and gun charges
U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo announced today that a federal jury convicted Trenton Grant, 31, of Jamestown, NY, of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, fentanyl, and cocaine, possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking crimes, and felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, the charges carry a mandatory minimum penalty of 20 years in prison and a maximum of life in prison.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Johsua A. Violanti and Stacey Jacovetti, who handled the prosecution of the case, stated that in May 2023, the Olean Police Department began an investigation into Grant’s drug trafficking activities. On July 25, 2023, Olean Police Officers executed search warrants on his vehicle and person and recovered approximately 71 grams of methamphetamine, five grams of cocaine, and approximately four grams of fentanyl. Officers also recovered a loaded firearm and ammunition from the trunk of Grant’s vehicle. The firearm was later identified as having been stolen. At the time of his arrest, Grant was on parole for a prior felony conviction in February 2016 of Assault, Intent to Cause Serious Injury with Weapon. As a result, he is legally prohibited from possessing a firearm.
The verdict is the result of an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Frank Tarentino, New York Field Division, and the Olean Police Departments Street Crimes Unit, under the direction of Acting Chief Robert Blovsky.
Sentencing is scheduled for February 4, 2026, before U.S. District Judge John L. Sinatra, Jr., who presided over the trial.
Carl G. Johnson, 84, of Roulette, PA
Carl G. Johnson, 84, of Roulette, PA passed away on August 14, 2025 at Sena Kean Manor in Smethport, PA surrounded by his loving family.
Carl was born on March 27, 1941 in Altoona, PA. The son of Gustaf and Dorothy (Lind) Johnson. On June 22, 1963 in State College, he married his wife of 53 years Bonna J. Bloom who preceded him in death on August 8, 2016.
He was a graduate of Altoona High school, and Penn State University with a degree in agriculture. Carl and Bonna, alongside each other, owned and operated Johnson Excavating in Roulette.
Carl was known for his knowledge in completing excavating jobs alongside his son Jerry, and hauling gravel from his gravel pit in his “Blue Pete” all across Potter and McKean Counties. Upon retirement from the gravel and excavation business, he then drove log truck for a period of time before officially retiring.
Carl was a life member of the Roulette Fire Department. He previously served on the Port Allegany School District school board, having been instrumental in the building of the current elementary school. He was a member of the Riverside United Methodist Church of Roulette, and most recently served as a Roulette Township Supervisor.
Carl filled his children, Jerry and Pam, with the entrepreneurial spirit. Upon his retirement, he enjoyed helping with SPS Goat Farm alongside his daughter, Pam. In his younger years, Carl enjoyed stock car racing at the McKean County Raceway with his son. Carl was an avid hunter and fisherman, spending many winters fishing Lake Okeechobee in Florida with his wife, Bonna. He enjoyed riding his side by side on “the hill”, fishing at the “the pond”, camping, boating, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by one son Jerry (Karen) Johnson of Roulette, one daughter, Pam (Scott) Davenport of Roulette, two grand-daughters, Stacey (Craig) Kinney of Port Allegany and Sydney Davenport of Gold, three great-grandchildren, Karli, Camrin, and Mack Kinney of Port Allegany, Brother-In-Law, Barry (Diane) Bloom of State College, his companion Janet Lehtonen.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents and wife Bonna.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 17, 2025 from 2-5 PM and on Monday, August 18, 2025 from 12 -1PM in the Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes Inc., 105 Main St., Port Allegany, where funeral services will start at 1PM, with the Rev. Jim Cannistraci, pastor of the Riverside Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Hill Cemetery, Roulette.
In leiu of flowers memorials may be made to Roulette Fire Dept. or the Riverside Methodist Church, Roulette.

Born on Friday, April 11, 1958 in Olean, NY, she was a daughter of Harry E. Stanley and Dorothea I. Hopewell Stanley. On July 7, 1971 in Covington, GA, she married Ralph L. Lloyd, who passed away on December 26, 2003.

Born on Wednesday, August 17, 1938 in Chester, she was a daughter of Albert and Dorothy Thompson Stott. On January 19, 1957, she married John N. Harvey, Sr., who passed away on March 29, 2000.Vivian graduated from Media High School in Media, PA.
FATHER CHARGED WITH ASSAULTING CHILD – BAIL SET AT $1 MILLION– ADDITIONAL CHARGES PENDING AUTOPSY
District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer reports that City of Bradford Police have charged the father of the infant who was found unresponsive on Sherman Street early this morning with assaulting the child with additional charges likely to be filed pending autopsy.
Tyler PRESCOTT (no permanent address) was charged with Aggravated Assault (serious bodily injury to another) – Felony 1; Aggravated Assault (bodily injury to a child less than six years of age) – Felony 2; Aggravated Assault (serious bodily injury to a child less than 13 years of age)- Felony 1; and Endangering Welfare of a Child (Felony) for injuries inflicted on his 2 year old son between July 17 and August 14.
EMS and Police were dispatched to a residence at 60 Sherman Street in Bradford early this morning August 14th for an unresponsive infant. The child was pronounced deceased at BRMC. Additional charges are likely pending the results of an autopsy and lab analysis of forensic examiner’s findings. An autopsy is scheduled.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact City of Bradford Police at (814) 887-4911. Chief Michael Ward and Detective Mark Deluca are the lead investigators. PRESCOTT was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Richard Luther who set bail at $1 million. PRESCOTT was remanded to the McKean County Jail.

ELK CAM FIRES BACK UP
With the September peak of Pennsylvania’s elk rut right around the corner, you can get a jumpstart on viewing some of those bugling bulls through the Pennsylvania Game Commission’s Elk Cam, which launched today.
The cam is located in the heart of Pennsylvania’s elk range, an area totaling over 220,000 acres including State Game Lands 311 and Elk State Forest. Video and sound from the camera will be livestreamed at www.pa.gov/pgc and viewers can expect not only to see elk, but turkeys, deer and other wildlife, as well. Elk, which in the coming weeks will ramp up activity – with bulls becoming more vocal and competing with one another for available cows – always seem to take center stage, however. Enjoying the show is just a few clicks away.
Betty Louise Ruzich, 59 of Warren PA
Betty Louise Ruzich, 59 of Warren PA, died on Tuesday August 12, 2025, in her home after an extended illness.
She was born in Warren, PA on March 5, 1966, the daughter of the late Ronald Fiscus and Rosemary Stuart Fileger and she survives.
Betty was a graduate of Warren Area High School and worked as an in-home health aide with many local nursing homes and families in the Warren area.

The Potter County Farmers Market will be outdoors AT OUR NEW LOCATION on the Courthouse grounds, at the corner and across the street from the square, every Friday (weather permitting) from 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm. The next market will be this Friday, August 15th. Below is a list of who plans to be there and what they plan on bringing to the Market:
* We’re back on our summer schedule of Friday markets, BUT AT OUR NEW LOCATION due to renovations on the square. We’ll be across the street from the square, along the sidewalk to the right of the courthouse entrance, and around the corner on East Street to the driveway.
* The outdoor market is held each Friday from May through October (weather permitting; on very rainy days, we will relocate into the Riley Gallery (if available)). In November, the farmers market goes indoors for the winter market.

POLICE INVESTIGATING DEATH OF INFANT IN BRADFORD
District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer and Police Chief Michael Ward report that City of Bradford Police with assistance from the Pennsylvania State Police-Forensics Services Unit, County Detective Bureau and District Attorney are investigating the death of an infant after EMS was called to a residence on Sherman Street in the City early this morning. The investigation is ongoing including an autopsy. Additional information will be provided as the investigation continues. There is no known risk to the community. Charges, and, possibly additional charges, may be filed as the case unfolds
BRADFORD SEX OFFENDER SENTENCED TO 20 YEARS TO 40 YEARS
District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer reports that the Bradford man who pled guilty to committing Rape of a Child and Involuntary Deviate Sexual Intercourse over several years has been sentenced to state prison. Andrew (Wegemer) SILSBY pled guilty in February to committing numerous incidents of sex assault against a minor child from 2016 to 2024 including intercourse with the victim 20 times when the child was between the ages of 10 and 15 and oral sex 15 times during that time period. At a subsequent hearing, SILSBY was found to meet the criteria of a sexually violent predator under Pennsylvania law which hearing included the testimony of an expert in sexual offender assessments who gave the opinion that SILSBY’s behavior is predatory.
District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer advised the Court that she was seeking the enhanced sentence allowed in the statute for the crimes which is permitted due to the age of the victim. SILSBY was sentenced today by a Judge during a sentencing hearing to 20 years to 40 years in state prison plus 3 years of consecutive probation and he is not eligible for any early parole. SILSBY was ordered to submit a DNA sample and comply with other terms. Officer Deven Grandinetti investigated the case. Mt Jewett Rotary Club Hosted Meet the Queens Night at Forty Acres

The Mt Jewett Rotary Club recently held their annual “Meet the Queens Night at Forty Acres”. The Queens were escorted by Amy Goodman, Assistant Coordinator for this year’s McKean County Fair Queens. Each of the Queen contestants gave a speech to the Club highlighting their activities and accomplishments and each described the events for a particular day at the fair.
Keeping with tradition, the Club President Will Keesler presented each of the contestants with a jar of pickles and flowers. He told them that Rotary’s motto is “Service Above Self” and that we so appreciate all they do not only for the fair but for their own respective communities. He wished them well on all their future endeavors. Special thanks to Rotarian Jim Trussell for once again hosting the annual event.
Route 6 Paving Project Begins Next Week in Delmar Township, Tioga County
Motorists are advised a paving project is set to begin next week on Route 6 in Delmar Township, Tioga County, between Route 287 and Heise Run Road.
The contractor, Glenn O Hawbaker, Inc., will begin the work Monday, August 18, 2025. Work will be completed during daylight hours and motorists can expect to encounter single lane conditions in the work zone.
Motorists should drive with caution in the area. This paving project is expected to be completed in mid-November 2025.
Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. is the prime contractor on this $1,400,000 project which includes base repairs, milling, minor drainage work, paving, guiderail, and other miscellaneous work.
