At the September 28, 2026, meeting of the Coudersport Rotary Club, Rotarian Deb Rinehart introduced guest speaker Nicole “Nicki” Hafer, co-owner of Hafer’s Auto Repair and this year’s coordinator for Coudersport’s Wreaths Across America project.
The local project began in 2018 and aims to honor approximately 900 veterans buried in 13 Coudersport cemeteries. A ceremony will be held at Eulalia Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 19, 2026, with wreath placement beginning at noon.
The wreaths are made in Maine from live evergreen trimmings harvested without cutting down the trees and feature a red bow. A trucker from Shinglehouse donates transportation and delivery time, and the Coudersport Fire Department will escort the tractor-trailer bringing the wreaths to the ceremony.
Each wreath costs $17. Individuals can sponsor wreaths, and organizations registering as groups can receive $5 for each wreath sold or contribute that amount toward sponsoring additional wreaths. An order form, including a QR code for donations, is available. Donors may also request wreaths for specific graves.
Hafer explained that wreaths remain on graves until mowing season in the spring. She also noted that volunteers can participate in the annual wreath-laying at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C., with bus tours available through Wreaths Across America.
The project provides an opportunity for the community to remember fallen service members, honor veterans, and teach future generations about the sacrifices made by those who served.
