HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) brought together human service professionals, community partners, and utility leaders for the annual Be Utility Wise conference in Philadelphia, a key event focused on equipping frontline workers with vital information about utility assistance programs and consumer advocacy tools.

This year’s Be Utility Wise conference was made possible through a collaborative partnership between the PUC, PECO Energy Company, Aqua Pennsylvania Inc., Philadelphia Gas Works, and the Philadelphia Water Department, along with the support of community organizations including UESF-Philadelphia, the Energy Coordinating Agency of Philadelphia, Jefferson Health, Project HOME, and the City of Philadelphia.

A memorial service and celebration of the life for Willam G. Hayes will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at Shiloh Evangelical Presbyterian Church in St. Marys at 11:00 AM.  Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc.

Penn College women have perfect week

The Pennsylvania College of Technology women’s softball team put together a 6-0 week, while the college’s baseball and men’s lacrosse teams split in their games, and several basketball players received postseason honors.

On Wednesday, the Wildcats swept Penn State Schuylkill 8-0 and 9-1, both in five innings. Mackenzie Weaver of Montoursville threw a two-hitter in the opener, and Fayth Anderson of Lykens went 3 for 3, including a triple, with two RBIs and one run scored. In the second game, Weaver had the hot bat going 2 for 2 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored. Also, Harley Kunes of Mill Hall had a three-run triple, and Mackenzi Tice of Mansfield earned the pitching win.

The newly formed Nurse Honor Guard of McKean County meeting was held Sunday, March 9 in Kane.  The mission of the group is to offer memorial honor services for nurses in Mckean County, Representatives from Kane, Mt Jewett, Smethport and Bradford were in attendance.  Membership is open to any licensed nurse in good standing, whether retired or actively employed. 

Next scheduled meeting will be held April 27,4 pm at The Post on Main, 61 West Main, Mt Jewett Pa. Any interested nurses are invited to attend.

SAINT MARYS, PA – The PA Wilds Center for Entrepreneurship Inc. (PA Wilds Center) invites the public to celebrate a new and unique collaboration between rural artisans and manufacturers in the region. A Pre-Launch Celebration for the inaugural PA Wilds Artisan Collaborative will be held on Tuesday, April 8, from 3-5 p.m. at Elcam in Saint Marys.

The Artisan Collaborative program invested in rural artists to help them develop and bring to market new PA Wilds branded products to meet growing consumer demand.

Four designers were selected through a competitive application last summer, and they were paired with four manufacturers to develop designs between last fall and spring of this year. Designers participating in the program included:

George on guitar and Charles on upright bass are both singers and songwriters. They grew up in a musical family.  The two have been playing and writing music together for as long as they can remember.

Bridge Deck Replacement Project Begins Next Week on Wilmont Road, Terry Township, Bradford County

Montoursville, PA – Motorists are advised that a bridge deck replacement project is set to begin next week on Wilmont Road (Route 2007) in Terry Township, Bradford County.

Starting Monday, March 24, 2025, Wilmont Road will be closed between Shaffers Notch Road (Route 2011) in Terry Township and Ambrosious Road (Route 2011) in Wilmont Township, while a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) bridge crew begins work on the bridge replacement project over Sugar Run Creek. Work on the project includes removal of the existing concrete bridge deck, construction of a new bridge deck, bridge approach paving, and line painting.  

A detour using Shaffers Notch Road, Wyalusing-New Albany Road (Route 2010), Route 187, and Ambrosious Road, will be in place for the duration of the project. Work on the project is anticipated to be completed by June 2025, weather permitting.

Motorists should be alert, slow down, expect delays in travel, and drive with caution.

Belmont, NY –  The Allegany County Democrats collected nearly 30 bags of non-perishable food and personal care items when they met recently in Almond. The goods were donated to the food pantry operated by the Almond Community Church. This service project is one of the ways the Democratic Committee lives its motto: “Serving our Community”.

For 25 years, Ken Waldman has toured North America as Alaska’s Fiddling Poet, combining Appalachian-style string-band music with smart poetry and Alaska-set storytelling. 

On Friday, April 4 at 7:30 p.m. Waldman will be joined in the Coolidge Theatre at the Deane Center for the Performing Arts at 104 Main Street in Wellsboro by favorite accompanists, The Snappin’ Bug Duo, Mark Tamsula and Barbara Rosner from Pittsburgh.  

Patricia Anne Pecora, formerly of Burke Avenue, Bradford, passed away on Friday, March 21, 2025, in Dover DE, with family members by her side.

Kathleen L. Hudock (60), of S.16th Street passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at her home.

Kathy was welcomed into this world as the family’s first grandchild on June 15, 1964, in Olean, NY. She was the daughter of Kathleen M. Williams and Joseph Hudock.

Kathy was an excellent student, an avid reader and lover of science. She always excelled at her studies as did her son, Mark, who was her pride and joy.

Bernadine Jacobs passed away peacefully November 23, 2024, at the Neighborhoods of White Lake nursing home, in White Lake MI. She was 96 years old.

She was married to Frank C. Jacobs up until his passing in 1985, and is survived by her six children: Robert, Frank, David, James, Nancy, and Faye. Bernadine also had 15 grandchildren, and 29 great grandchildren.
