Free June Programs At Sinnemahoning State Park!

Saturday, June 6th, 2026
8:00 A.M.-11:00 A.M – Introduction to Fly Fishing – Give fly fishing a try with this Introduction to Fly Fishing program. In this three-hour program, participants will receive instruction in fly casting, learn the differences between fly fishing and spin fishing, and spend time fishing the First Fork of Sinnemahoning Creek. A license exemption has been given to this educational program; participants do not need a fishing license to fish during the program time. Pre-registration is required for this program and space is very limited. Participants are asked to bring fishing waders or appropriate clothing to wet wade.

9:00 AM, 10:30 A.M., and 12:30 P.M. –Pontoon Tours of the Stevenson Reservoir-Join park staff for a relaxing and informative tour around the lake, as we cruise the shoreline of the George B. Stevenson Reservoir in search of wildlife. Group size is limited. To reserve a seat, please pre-register. Registration is not required but is strongly recommended.

8:30 P.M.-9:30 P.M – Campground Movie: Hummingbirds- Magic in the Air
– Tune into this exciting PBS Nature documentary, highlighting the wonderful world of Hummingbirds. Join a park naturalist for a brief education program before the showing of the movie. Movie runtime is approximately 60 minutes.

11:00 A.M.-12:00 P.M Bioblitz: Tree Identification Walk– Participate in the PA State Park BioBlitz by helping park staff identify trees found at Sinnemahoning State Park. Participants are encouraged but not required to download the iNaturalist App (Free) before the program.

5:00 P.M.-6:00 P.M – Sinnemahoning History Series: B & S Railroad Walk– Stretching from Buffalo to Sagamore, the Buffalo and Susquehanna Railroad served as the lifeblood for Frank Goodyear’s empire of lumber, coal, and iron. This one hour walk along the former Buffalo and Susquehanna Railroad grade will highlight the history of the railroad, as well as visit the location of a former depot and the site of a train crash.

8:30 P.M.-9:30 P.M – Campground Movie: The Secret Life of Bats– Bats are an important part of the ecosystem at Sinnemahoning but globally they have been persecuted for centuries. Join a park educator for a showing of The Secret life of Bats and learn about the diversity of bats and their benefits.

10:00 P.M.-11:30 P.M – Moth Sheet Meet Up– Moths make up a huge proportion of the pollinating insects in Pennsylvania, but we know very little about them due to their nocturnal habits. Luckily, we do know how to attract moths for study. Join an educator at the park’s moth sheet to explore the moths and other nocturnal insects that are attracted to the lights.

10:00 A.M.-12:00 P.M – Orienteering Basics – Learn how to navigate across the landscape using only a compass and a map. This two-hour program will teach participants how to read and use a compass, shoot an azimuth, understand declination and plot and follow a course on a map. Pre-registration is required for this program.

7:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M – BioBlitz: Evening Bird Walk – Help us document the park’s bird life by joining a park naturalist for an evening walk to record bird sounds with the Merlin Bird ID App. It is recommended but not required that participants download the Merlin Bird ID App (free) before the program.
