BRADFORD, Pa. – Four of the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford’s longest-serving employees are retiring this summer, including the longest-serving member of the faculty, Dr. Michael Klausner.
Klausner retired in May after 50 years of teaching at Pitt-Bradford. Others who retired in May were Dr. Stephen Robar, 27 years; and Denise Perkins, 21 years. Gary Tessmer, who has taught for 37 years, will retire in July.
Klausner, an associate professor of sociology, is known for welcoming his colleagues and enjoying lively discussions.
He came to Pitt-Bradford in the summer of 1976, the same year as Dr. K. James Evans, retired vice president of student affairs.
The Potter County Housing Authority will receive bids for Flooring Renovations for Freeman House Elderly Housing Project, Coudersport, Pennsylvania, at the office of the Owner, Potter County Housing Authority, 109 Market Street, Coudersport, Pennsylvania, until 2 P.M,Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at which time and place all bids will be opened and read aloud.

By making a Bid, the Bidder represents that (s) he has visited the site, (site meeting date will be set), become familiar with local Conditions, under which the work is to be performed, and has correlated these observations with the requirements of the proposed Drawings and Specifications. HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Game Commission announced that its new hunting and trapping licenses for the 2026-27 seasons will go on sale Monday, June 22, 2026, at 8 a.m.

Wellsboro, Pa., June 15, 2026 – UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute is expanding device clinic services to Wellsboro and Mansfield, giving patients additional access to follow-up care for implanted heart rhythm devices closer to home.

Verna L. Slater, 75, previously of Mt. Jewett, passed away Saturday (June 13) in the Sena Kean Manor. She was born Aug. 9, 1950 in Marienville, the daughter of the late Raymond and Ruby Stahlman. She married Bruce S. Slater on Nov. 2, 1968. They shared 52 years together before his passing in 2020.
She retired from Sena Kean Manor, where she worked for over 30 years in housekeeping and laundry services. Verna enjoyed camping with her family, crafting, reading, and puzzles.
She is survived by Two daughters, Laurie (Tom Miller) Slater of Lewis Run, and Maria (Sergei) Swanson of Bradford; two sons, Bruce R. Slater of Mt. Jewett and Shannon Boyd of Apoka, FL; three sisters Bonnie Jefferds of Mt. Jewett, Ella “Kittie” Tobin of Olean and Anna Wood of Olean; eleven grandchildren, Kiersten Slater, Eddie Slater, Bryce Slater, Morgan Slater, Hailey Slater, Sidney Slater, Anthony Bonini, Dillon Mika, Madison, Tyler and Breanna Boyd; six great-grandchildren, Kensly Wolff, Azrael Stefini, Nova Slater, Alivia Myers, Bryson Slater and Aston Gifford and several nieces and nephews.

Margaret C. Clark “beloved mother, grandmother, and sister”
ROULETTE, PA—Margaret C. Clark, 90, a lifelong resident of Roulette, passed away on Friday, June 12, 2026, in Sweden Valley Manor, Coudersport, after a long illness.
Born on Sunday, August 11, 1935, in Sinnemahoning, she was a daughter of George F. and Helen Mae Copenhaver Caldwell. On September 2, 1961, in Roulette in Riverside Methodist Church, she married Donald M. Clark, who passed away on March 9, 2006.
Margaret was a graduate of Emporium High School. She loved working in the secretarial field, which included typing and bookkeeping. She had been employed at the former Potter County Hospital, North Penn Gas, and the former Charles Cole Memorial Hospital. She was also employed by Attorney John Duvall in Coudersport for over 27 years. She was then employed by Attorney Daniel Glassmire and was also employed by Four Seasons Realty in Coudersport, from where she retired at the age of 70.
Margaret was a member of Riverside Methodist Church in Roulette where she sang in the choir. She spent 1000’s of hours volunteering at the former Charles Cole Memorial Hospital in Coudersport, assisting her daughter, Diane, who was the hospital hairdresser, doing hair on Long Term Care. She loved to travel to North Carolina to her grandson’s home, where she very much loved seeing her great-grand dogs, Bourbon and Odin. Her last trip was in October at the age of 90. She never missed an opportunity to see her grandsons. She adored her grand dog—Odie. Margaret also volunteered for the American Cancer Society collecting donations. She loved to read Amish books. Her greatest love was her family, especially her children and grandchildren.
Anne-Marie P. BERRY, 64, of Ulysses, PA, died Friday, June 12, 2026 in Sweden Valley Manor, Coudersport. Born September 22, 1961, in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of George C. and Frances A. Jeres Berry.
A 1979 graduate of Galeton Area High School, she served honorably as a corpsman with the US Navy after high school. She was very proud of her Navy service. Anne-Marie worked as a caregiver.
Surviving are: her mother, Frances Berry of Galeton; two children, Christina (Bob Hauber) Lavoie of Westfield and Zachary (Alyssa) Worthington of Ulysses; four grandchildren, Chloe, Chase, Brylee, and Tiernee; two brothers, Charles C. Berry of Westfield and Thomas V. (Gail) Berry of Jacksonville, AL; nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her father; and her friend and companion of 38 years, Basil T. “Mutt” Worthington.
Services will be private. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery, Potter Brook. Memorials may be made to Tri-Town Volunteer Ambulance, P.O. Box 247, Ulysses, PA 16948.

The 84th Annual Pennsylvania State Laurel Festival includes the Pennsylvania State Laurel Queen competition on Friday and Saturday, June 19 and 20.
While in Wellsboro, the 22 queen candidates will enjoy a full weekend of activities. At noon Friday, June 19, they will gather on the Tioga County Courthouse steps for the official welcome.

There will be five free concerts with different entertainers each night, Monday, June 15 through Friday, June 19.
From 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, June 19, and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, June 20, the annual Arts & Crafts Fair with 76 artisans will be on The Green with unique, handcrafted items, and 25 vendors will be on the International Street of Foods offering delectable delights.
The welcome for last year’s Laurel Queen and the 2026 queen candidates will be at noon Friday, June 19, on the Tioga County Courthouse steps.
At 4:30 p.m. Friday, the Molly’s Boys Jug Band will open the free Laurel Queens Preview & Concert on the Deane Center’s outdoor stage. The 22 queen candidates will be introduced at 5 p.m., and the band will close the event with more music.
The Laurel Festival 10K at 9 a.m. and Two-Mile Fun Run at 9:05 a.m. will start events on Saturday, June 20. Registration for both will be from 7:45 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. at Packer Park on Queen Street.
The Laurel Festival Parade with floats, queens, top-notch drum and bugle corps, bagpipers, string bands, high school marching bands, antique vehicles and more will be at 2 p.m. In celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, this year’s theme is “From Sea to Shining Sea.”
At Saturday’s 6:30 p.m. coronation ceremony, Chris Eckert will perform and the 2026 Pennsylvania State Laurel Queen will be crowned.
On Sunday, June 21 at 10:30 a.m., the festival will end with the Union Church Service on The Green. The rain location is the First Presbyterian Church.

Miss Cyerrah Neely, a junior, is representing Port Allegany High School and her community as a Pennsylvania Laurel Queen candidate. She is the daughter of Carra and Craig Neely of Port Allegany and will be a high school senior this fall. As a freshman, sophomore, and junior, Miss Neely has served as the manager for the school wrestling team. She earned honor roll all three years. She volunteered to help with children’s church at the Port Allegany Lions’ Church. As a junior, she was a member of the cheerleading squad. She won a “Scholar Athlete Award.” She was also a Varsity Club member. She served on the Prom Committee.
As a sophomore, Miss Neely was named a “Student of the Week” at the Seneca Highlands Career and Technical Center. As a sophomore, Miss Neely worked as a CNA for a private family. She has worked all through high school as a regular babysitter for several local families.
In addition to cheerleading, Miss Neely enjoys drawing. After graduation in 2027, Miss Neely plans to attend a 4-year college. Currently, she is most interested in Clarion University. She plans to pursue a degree in medical imaging. Her career goal is to become a radiology technician.
