Ruffed Grouse Society in NC PA Finishes Spring Events with Future Hunters and Handlers’ Clinic
St. Marys, Pa.: “It’s been a busy spring for the Upland Bird Hunt Chapter of the Ruffed Grouse Society (RGS) up here in NC Pa,” said Jed Hamberger, President of the Chapter, “but we finished up our ambitious spring schedule. Now we take a short break and get ready for our summer event, the four-day Women’s Intro to Wingshooting program.”
The Upland Bird Hunt Chapter started its spring schedule by tackling an ambitious new habitat project of alder regeneration at Tionesta Lake in partnership with the Army Corps of Engineers; then moved directly into woodcock singing and drumming grouse surveys in partnership with the PA Game Commission and the US Geological Service. The first ever Wild Game Dinner Social was held at the Rolfe Beagle Club. And finally, the Upland Bird Hunt Chapter sponsored its always well-received Future Hunters and Handlers’ Clinic for dog owners at the Rolfe Beagle Club.
The Future Hunters and Handlers’ Clinic is designed for any dog handler or hunter who wants to establish a better rapport with their dog or learn new techniques in dog training. This program is held every spring by the chapter with experts in the dog training field, dog care, and habitat providing short one-hour seminars for attendees to rotate into. This spring, the program had 16 attendees – mostly dog owners, but even a few attendees that will be future dog owners. “We are thinking about rotating this program to another RGS Chapter area such as Erie or State College or Williamsport next spring so we can reach more interested folks,” said Tom McPherson, an instructor for the program.

Anthony M. “Tony” Kisko, 70, of Port Allegany, PA
Anthony M. “Tony” Kisko, 70, of Port Allegany, PA passed away on Thursday (May 25, 2023). He was born April 22, 1953, the son of the late William H. Kisko and the late Nevada Kisko Higley.
Tony loved fishing and hunting using his Grandfather Kisko’s hunting rifle. He and his brothers brought home many rabbits and squirrels for their mother to cook. He loved music, and enjoyed strumming on his guitar as a young person. He enjoyed nature shows and western reruns on TV. He had a quiet and sweet nature, and could keep up with any conversation. Tony’s working career was primarily in construction.
Anthony is survived by three sons, Jamie (Dannelle) Kisko of Port Allegany, Justin (Heather) Kisko of Smethport, and Jason (Carrie) Kisko of Concord, N.C.; three brothers and three sisters, Ann DeHaven (Phil) Smith of Port Allegany, Barbara (Garry) Hoch of Bradford, Joseph Kisko of Smethport, William (Teresa) Kisko Jr. of Mainesburg, Melinda Teats and Kim Kisko, both of Smethport; and he leaves three grandsons, four granddaughters, and one great-granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Frame Funeral Home, 230 North Main Street, Eldred, PA 16731.
Burial will be held at a later date to be announced by the family.

Thea Petruzzi Port Allegany Big 30 Academic Student
Thea Petruzzi, daughter of Josh and Erica Petruzzi of Port Allegany, joined high school seniors and their parents from 32 area school districts at the Big 30 Academic Scholarship Banquet. The banquet recognizes a senior from each school district in the Olean Times Herald’s Twin Tiers sports coverage area, known as the Big 30. Students are nominated by their principals. Thea’s plans after graduation are to attend Robert Morris University majoring in biomedical engineering. She is pictured with PAHS Principal Marc Budd.

Susan E. Bogart, 74, of Emporium, PA
Susan E. Bogart, 74, of Emporium, PA passed away at Guy & Mary Felt Manor, Emporium, PA on Friday (May 26, 2023) morning following a lengthy illness. She was born January 23, 1949 in Mineola, New York a daughter of the late Frederick and Jane Lockard Haupert. On February 1, 1969 in St. Mark Catholic Church she married William H. Bogart, who survives.
Susan graduated from Fox Lane High School in Bedford, NY and attended Robert Morris College. She spent many years helping her husband establish and manage his business while being an homemaker. She worked as a secretary for Malizia Law Firm and retired from the Cameron County School District after 21 years of service as the administrative secretary. Susan enjoyed spending her time as an avid participant in her children’s activities throughout the years, such as serving as a Girl Scout leader, volunteering in their classrooms, and being a dedicated spectator throughout their different sports and activities.Her legacy was being a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her husband William; daughter, Christy Bennett (Mark), Emporium; son, Matthew Bogart (Christine), Amherst, NY; daughter, Angela Ranous (James), Apex, NC; three grandchildren: Breydan, Emma and Carter and a sister, Meta Haupert, Atlanta, GA
She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant son, Barry Dean Bogart.

Doris M. Woelfel, 90, Of, St. Marys, PA.
Doris M. Woelfel, 90, passed away at her home on Thursday, May 25, 2023 with her family by her side following a lengthy illness.
She was born on February 12, 1933 in St. Marys, a daughter of the late Joseph and Loretta Eckert Wolfe.
On August 30, 1952, she married the late Wray H. “Lucky” Woelfel, who preceded her in death on September 23, 1993. Together they shared more than 40 years of marriage.
Doris was a lifelong member of Queen of the World Church, and was also active with the Rosary Altar Society and the St. Ann’s Society. She loved playing cards and cherished her family more than anything. Her grandchildren were the light and love of her life. Doris loved cooking, canning, and baking. She will be fondly remembered as a loving, kind, and caring wife, mother, and grandmother.
Doris is survived by her six children; Kenneth (Ann) Woelfel of St. Marys, Robert (Judy) Woelfel of Kersey, Deborah (James) Dellaquila of St. Marys, Donna (John) Gerber of St. Marys, Nancy (Duane) Bucher of St. Marys and Janice Woelfel of St. Marys; along with a close family friend, Linda Friedl of St. Marys, as well as by her 16 beloved grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers; David Wolfe and James Wolfe, both of St. Marys, as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Doris was preceded in death by her son, Christopher Woelfel in 2006, four brothers; Joseph, Vincent, Alvin, and Dennis Wolfe, and by two sisters; Rose Anne Mahovlich and Jeanne Brem.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Doris M. Woelfel will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at 12:00 PM at the Queen of the World Church, 134 Queens Road, St. Marys, PA 15857 with Fr. Jeffery Noble, Pastor, as Celebrant. Burial will follow in the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery. There will be no public visitation.

The Canyon Pilots Association Memorial Day Weekend All-You-Can-Eat Fly-In Breakfast is this Sunday, May 28 from 8 a.m. to noon indoors at the corporate hangar at the Grand Canyon Regional Airport in Delmar Township at 112 Runway Road, Wellsboro, PA 16901.
The breakfast is open to the public and will be held rain or shine. Parking is free. Handicapped parking is available.
Weather permitting pilots in various types of full-size aircraft will fly to the airport for the breakfast.
Costa’s in Painted Post, New York is providing two Cessna airplanes and pilots to take people on rides over the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon for a fee and Blaise Alexander is offering helicopter rides, weather permitting.
On the menu are ham, eggs, buckwheat pancakes, coffee and orange juice. Requested is a donation of $10 for adults and $5 for youngsters, ages 3 to 8 years old. Children 2 and under will be admitted free.
Members of the Canyon Country Ultralight Club will assist with the breakfast.
The Mountain Modelaires will display radio controlled airplanes and helicopters and a one-third scale RC Piper J-3 Cub. A Real-Flite Simulator will be available for anyone that wants to try flying a radio control airplane.

The event will take place on Saturday, May 27th at 9 am (8:30 for registration) at the OEHS Track on Sweitzer Drive, Duke Center, PA. We will have access to the track as well as the XC trail. FUGITIVE APPREHENDED IN KANE, OTHERS CHARGED
(KANE, Pennsylvania, May 26, 2023): District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer reports that the large number of law enforcement in Kane on May 25th was part of a lengthy investigation into the whereabouts of a man wanted by Narcotics Agents from the Attorney General’s Office for failing to appear for plea court in Clarion County on April 5th where he has Felony drug charges pending. The Agents’ investigation led them to believe that Sherrod DUNCAN was in Kane.
During the weeks’ long investigation to apprehend DUNCAN, Agents were assisted by Clarion County Drug Task Force, Emporium Borough Police Department, Brookville Borough Police Department, McKean County Detectives, McKean County Drug Task Force, Pennsylvania State Police, St Mary’s Police Department, City of Bradford Police Department, Smethport Borough Police Department, Kane Borough Police Department, City of Warren Police Department, and the McKean County Sheriff’s Office.
Duncan was taken into custody after the officers saw him enter the passenger side of a vehicle in Kane. Officers demanded that the vehicle stop but the vehicle fled. A short distance later, DUNCAN had fled the vehicle and hid in a shed on Bayard Street. He was taken into custody by the Agents. Charges are pending.
A Kane man is charged with being the driver of that vehicle and attempting to flee. James BAILEY, Jr., Kane, is charged by amendment filed on this date with Fleeing or Attempting to Elude Police Officer (Felony 3); Evading Arrest or Detention on Foot (Misdemeanor 2); and Reckless Driving (summary). Magisterial District Judge David Engman set bail at $10,000. Central Court was scheduled for June 1 at the McKean County Courthouse.
Agents also charged Morgan STUART, Kane, with 2 counts of Delivery of a Controlled Substance (Felony); 2 counts Conspiracy to Deliver a Controlled Substance (Felony); 2 counts Criminal Use of a Communication Facility (Felony 3); and 2 counts Possession of a Controlled Substance (Misdemeanor). Magisterial District Judge David Engman arraigned Stuart and set bail at $100,000. Central Court was scheduled for June 1 at the McKean County Courthouse.
DA Shaffer thanked the officers from the numerous departments for apprehending a felony fugitive and making the additional arrests noting that the apprehension and arrests were the result of a long investigation and excellent police work and collaboration.
The investigation is on-going and additional charges are pending the conclusion.
Regina M. “Mae” Wolfe, 74, of Coal Hollow Road, Kersey, PA.
Regina M. “Mae” Wolfe, 74, of Coal Hollow Road, Kersey, passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at Penn Highlands DuBois.
She was born on November 18, 1948 in Ridgway, PA, a daughter of the late Theodore and Katherine Cuneo Wonderly.
On May 13, 1971, she married the late Walter “Butch” Wolfe, who preceded her in death.
Mae was a lifelong resident of the area and graduate of St. Marys Area High School. Over the years, she was active in the community with the Fox Twp. Lions Club, Cub Scouts, and the Fox Twp. Ambulance Board. In 1990, she was recognized as the Fox Township Person of the Year. She was also an active member of the Fox Twp. Fireman’s Auxiliary, and served for more than 35 years as the secretary for the Tri-County Fire School. She also drove school bus for many years, always enjoying seeing the kids every day. In her free time, she enjoyed crocheting and spending time with friends at the Senior Center.
She is survived by three children; Jamie (Rena) Wolfe of Kersey, Jessie Wolfe of Kersey, and Josie “Cooter” (Nichole) Wolfe of Missouri; by six grandchildren; Kyle, Casey, Cody, Cory, Kolby, and Kelvin and by two great-grandchildren; Paisley and Enzo.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Mae was preceded in death by a granddaughter; Bridget Wolfe, five brothers; Leroy Krise, Clarence Krise, Claire Krise, Kenneth Krise, and Robert Wonderly, and by a sister; Helen Koppenhaver.
Funeral Services for Regina M. “Mae” Wolfe will be held on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Krise Funeral Home, 339 Main Street, Kersey, PA 15846 with Faith Bryan officiating.
Visitation will be held at the Krise Funeral Home in Kersey on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

Pamela Ann “Pam” Johnson, 73, of Ridgway, died on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at Forbes Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born on January 1, 1950, in Kane, a daughter of the late John and Marie Richardson Trimble.
Pam was a member of Grace Episcopal Church and a graduate of Ridgway High School. She worked her life in the graphite industry. Pam had a heart full of love and was involved in numerous programs caring for the local children.
She is survived by a son, Michael Johnson of Ridgway and his father Tom Johnson, a daughter, Billie Jo Trimble (Chris Biggie) of Dubois, 2 sisters, Sandy Chittester (Clyde) of Pittsburgh and Molly Carr (Wayne) of Maryland, a brother, Bill Trimble (Sandra) of Ridgway, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Pamela Johnson will be held privately and at the convenience of the family.
