Williamsport, Pa., August 2, 2023 – Several hospitals within UPMC in North Central Pa. have received American Heart Association Get With The Guidelines® awards for demonstrating commitment to following up-to-date, research-based guidelines for the treatment of stroke, ultimately leading to more lives saved, shorter recovery times and fewer readmissions to the hospital. 

UPMC Williamsport and the UPMC Outpatient Emergency Department of Lock Haven achieved the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines® – Stroke Gold Plus award. To be awarded Gold Plus, a hospital must reach at least 85% compliance in numerous quality measures as outlined by the American Heart Association for at least 24 consecutive months.  

UPMC Muncy and UPMC Wellsboro achieved the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines® – Stroke Rural Recognition Bronze award. To be awarded a Rural Recognition Bronze, a hospital must reach at least 75% compliance in numerous quality measures by the American Heart Association for at least one calendar quarter. 

Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that over $187,000 in state funds will be invested in the St. Mary’s Municipal Airport. These investments are part of $10 million in state funding that will be awarded to public use airports for facility improvements, infrastructure preservation and development. Pennsylvania’s robust aviation industry helps bolster economies across the Commonwealth, and supporting safe, reliable infrastructure is a key priority for the Shapiro administration.

Find out how to peacefully coexist with all kinds of wildlife that share habitat with us and see tools used in nuisance control this Saturday, Aug. 5 from 8:30pm to 9:30pm in the park’s Nature Center. Amusing tales of interacting with wildlife will be shared.

This Sunday, Aug. 6 Register Now for Canoe Tour of Hills Creek Lake 

From 5pm to 7pm this Sunday, Aug. 6, explore the history, management, and wildlife of Hills Creek Lake – all by canoe in a relaxed family setting. Boats, paddles, and personal flotation devices (PFDs) will be provided. PFDs must be worn at all times. Meet at the beach area. Registration is required. Learn about the history, management, life cycle and distribution of Pennsylvania’s largest wild feline this Sunday, Aug.  6 from 8:30pm to 9:30pm in the park’s Nature Center. Highlighting the presentation will be mounts, hides, skulls, photos, videos and other visuals.

Harrisburg, PA — Treasurer Stacy Garrity and James M. Zugay, Recorder of Deeds in Dauphin County and President of the Pennsylvania Recorders of Deeds Association (PRODA), today reminded Pennsylvania veterans to register their military discharge paperwork with their local recorder of deeds office.

“Military discharge papers are crucial documents for veterans to keep, and Recorder of Deed offices can provide easy access to official copies if the originals get misplaced or lost,” said Treasurer Garrity, a retired U.S. Army Reserve Colonel. “It’s important that my fellow veterans know about and understand the importance of this great resource, and I urge them all to make sure they have their paperwork on file with their county’s recorder of deeds.”

“Recorders are proud to serve as a custodian of DD214s for our veterans who have honorably served our country,” said Zugay. “We have recorded thousands of these
documents, but our hope is spread the word that recording these documents in our office is a way to preserve them in a safe and confidential way if they are needed for any reason in the future.” Recorders are required by Pennsylvania law to accept and maintain military discharge papers from veterans. This is the only document protected as private – DD214s are not public record.

BRADFORD – Rep. Martin Causer (R-Turtlepoint) is reminding area senior citizens of the annual Senior Citizens Expo coming up on Friday, Aug. 4, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford Sports and Fitness Gymnasium.

“This is always an informative event that is helpful not only to senior citizens but to their family members and caregivers as well,” Causer said. “I encourage everyone to come out and take advantage of the opportunity to get a wealth of information in one convenient location.”

Due to the expo, Causer’s offices in Bradford and Kane will be closed all day on Friday, Aug. 4. The office in Coudersport will remain open and may be reached by calling 814-274-9769.

The event is free to attend, and lunch will be provided. State, county and local exhibitors will be on hand to distribute information and answer questions about a variety of issues. Health screenings will also be offered, and door prize drawings will be held at 12:30 p.m.

Additional expos are scheduled Friday, Sept. 8, at the Kane Community Center, and Friday, Oct. 13, at the Roulette Fire Hall. Both events also will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
