Members of the Port Allegany Pickleball group gathered Sunday afternoon at  the Pickleball Court in Community Park located on Edison Bates Drive.  Paula Moses thanked everyone for coming and explained how Pickleball came to Port Allegany.  Paula and her husband, Marty, were introduced to the game of Pickleball in Florida where they wintered.  It was not a new game to many.  In fact, Pickleball was invented in 1965 in the state of Washington. Two years ago, while trying to find something to fill the time during the summer months in Port Allegany, the couple decided to bring Pickleball to Port Allegany.  It all started with a call to Tony Edgell, Port Allegany Rec Authority President, to ask permission to use the tennis courts.  Paula then joined the USA Pickleball association and wrote a grant for a portable net and balls, and advertised on the app Team Reach and Places to Play, Signs were hung in downtown businesses for an organizational meeting and the word spread. 

A ceremony was held Friday morning to dedicate the Richard “Dick” Kallenborn Memorial Bridge on Lower Portage Road in Liberty Township.  As a long-time member of the McKean County Planning Commission, Kallenborn advocated for funding for many infrastructure projects including this new bridge.  State Representative Martin Causer said he was honored to join in the official dedication ceremony, a fitting tribute to a man who dedicated so much to the community.   Liberty Township Supervisor Chairman, Dick Brown, organized the ceremony and began by saying he felt it was an honor  to call Dick Kallenborn a friend. And that he appreciated everything he did for McKean County and especially Liberty Township.

He thanked the County Commissioners for the money for the bridge project and the Planning Commission for distributing the money.  He also thanked Nancy Rathbun, Butch Shaffer and Rob Dickinson of the Planning Commission for voting for Liberty Township to receive the money.  Also recognized were Chris Ernst, the engineer and Sandy Thompson for obtaining the permits; ADM for building the bridge; Brad Greenman and Chad Moses for setting the bridge and Don Snyder, Mike Greenman, Shawn Mahon and James Michaud for doing the total work on the bridge and then blacktopping the road and bridge.   Brown indicated that these people doing the work themselves saved the Liberty Township taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars. 

Scott T. Wise, 47, a resident of Sena Kean Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Smethport, and formerly of St. Marys, passed away Thursday, September 28, 2023, at Sena Kean, after a lengthy illness.

He was born May 21, 1976, in St. Marys, son of the late Charles P. Wise II and Connie Steele.  He was a graduate of Ridgway High School.

On August 18, 2007, in the Queen of the World Church, Scott married Lacy Young, who survives.

This year’s Fall Antique Show & Sawmill Run will be held on Saturday, October 7th and Sunday, October 8th. Northern Pennsylvania typically reaches peak fall foliage conditions around this time so the forests surrounding the museum will (hopefully) be decked in rich and beautiful colors.

The Antique Show features multiple antique vendors who will be selling their wares in the museum program room. Our vendors have a little bit of everything, including antique tools, vintage clothing, collectible coins, glassware, books, and furniture. Vendors open 9am-5pm Saturday and 9am-3pm Sunday.

Food and beverages will be available for purchase. No ATM is available on site so plan your visit accordingly.

Outside, the museum grounds will come alive with historic trade demonstrations. On Saturday 10/7 (ONLY) the engines of our steam-powered circular sawmill will be running from 10 AM to 3 PM. Other demonstrations will be happening over both days of the event at the birch still, lumber camp kitchen, blacksmith shop, and the Eastern Loggers model railroad display.
