HARRISBURG – Rep. Martin Causer (R-Cameron/McKean/Potter) today announced $12,000 in state grants have been awarded to three area organizations by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC).

The Eldred World War II Museum, as well as the Cameron County Historical Society and McKean County Historical Society, each were awarded $4,000 through the Cultural and Historical Support Grant Program.

“Our historical societies play a valuable role in preserving and teaching about local history, and the Eldred World War II Museum is an outstanding asset to our region, preserving the history of World War II and highlighting the role the community of Eldred played in supporting the war,” Causer said. “I was glad to support this important investment in these organizations.”

American Snuff Company Issues Voluntary Recall of Kodiak Premium Wintergreen Longcut Tobacco Due to Possible Health Risk

November 19, 2023 — American Snuff Company (ASC) is voluntarily recalling certain lots of Kodiak Premium Wintergreen Longcut Tobacco manufactured at ASCs facility in Clarksville, TN, and distributed in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Wisconsin, and West Virginia. ASC has notified the U.S. Food and Drug Administration of the voluntary recall and is working with the Agency on this matter.

UPDATED December 7, 2023:  (MCKEAN COUNTY, Pennsylvania):  District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer reports that, following a sentencing hearing at the McKean County Courthouse, the Bradford man who was driving a vehicle while under the influence and crashed, causing a man’s death, was sentenced to a period of state incarceration.

Darian Ramdin pled guilty to Homicide by Vehicle while DUI, Aggravated Assault while DUI, Fleeing or Attempting to Elude Police and other charges for the crash on July 16, 2023 on East Main Street in Bradford. 

Wallace Easton was killed in the crash and a juvenile female suffered serious injury.  Both were passengers in the Ramdin vehicle. 

Ramdin was sentenced by Judge John H. Pavlock to a term of incarceration of 4 years to 8 years plus 3 years of consecutive probation and other terms. At the time of the crash, Ramdin had been out on bail for a charge of delivery of marijuana. 

Wallace Easton’s mother spoke at sentencing that her son’s organs were donated and, in that way, he lives on.   Ramdin read a statement to the Court prior to sentencing.

There Is Hope!

It doesn’t take a genius to know that we are living in some difficult times. Money is tight, bills are high and there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight. Business are struggling not for lack of customers but rather for lack of workers. In addition to this, human suffering continues. Within the past couple of weeks, a couple of friends have passed away. One, a wife of a good friend with whom I did motorcycle ministry, passed away after years of battling cancer. Shortly after the funeral, another friend suffered a heart attack. Although recovering, it has shaken up his life. While shopping for a new car the salesman shared his personal struggles in his marriage. Wherever you go, people are having difficulty, but I believe that there is a hope.

Jesus stated, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has appointed me to preach Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the downtrodden will be freed from their oppressors.” (Luke 4:18). In case you haven’t noticed, each of us is a prisoner of some sort. We are all being held captive by something. And although we can find a variety of things that can give us relief, it is only temporary. Jesus is the redeemer of broken lives, not Oprah. Jesus is the only one that that has the real answers to your problems, not Dr. Phil. Even all of creation understands this. The writer of Romans states, “All creation anticipates the day when it will join God’s children in glorious freedom from death and decay.” (Romans 8:21). It, (creation), understands that the transformation into the beauty for which it was created is a hope that awaits her, just as it is for each of us.

We live in a fallen world. All the advancements in medicine, in science, education and techniques, haven’t changed human suffering. Our best economic advisors can’t agree on what is the best approach to bringing stability to our economy. If we would only realize that Jesus has already redeemed it, we would have a better understanding of how to walk through it. Think about it.

The one-hour “Sights & Sounds of Christmas” Parade brings festive holiday merriment and spreads Christmas cheer to kids of all ages attending Christmas on Main Street events. 

It is beginning earlier this Sunday, Dec. 10, at 4pm in daylight and ending at dusk to ensure the safety of spectators and participants. 

Groups, service organizations, fire, EMS and law enforcement agencies, schools, churches, businesses, families and individuals who want to be in this year’s parade can dress up as a holiday character, show off your vehicle, tractor, or ATV-UTV by decorating it and adding sparkling garland and lights; create a float; dress up a pet; gather as a group of carolers and make a joyful noise, be one of Santa’s many “candy handlers” and pass out treats along the parade route or be creative and come up with another idea.
