Jerome G. Rupprecht, 99 ½, St. Marys, PA
Jerome G. Rupprecht, 99 ½, passed away in his home on Friday, April 19, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 17, 1924 in St. Mary’s, PA, the son of the late Alois and Mayme Gleixner Rupprecht.
Jerome truly lived the “American Dream.” He grew up in St. Mary’s and at the age of 18, he was drafted into the US Army serving his country during WW II. As a carpenter general in Iwo Jima, he built battlefield hospitals for the wounded soldiers and witnessed the historic raising of the American flag. Upon returning home, he married his high school sweetheart, Jane. In the early 50’s he and Jane built their home together where they raised their 4 children. A carpenter by trade, he built numerous homes as well as repaired the steeple at Sacred Heart Church. Later in life, he was employed as the office manager at the former Industrial Steel and Pipe Co. After retirement, he and Jane traveled to each of the 50 states as well as Mexico, Canada and Nova Scotia. They were fortunate to be able to spend their last few years together in their own home.
On August 28, 1948 Jerome married Jane Kronenwetter. His uncles, Fr. Jerome Rupprecht OSB, Fr. Norbert Rupprecht OSB and Fr. Melvin Rupprecht OSB offered a concelebrated wedding mass at the Sacred Heart Church where they remained lifetime members. Together they shared almost 75 years of love and happiness.
Jerome was a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 70 years and was the oldest living member. He was also a member of the St. Joseph’s Society where he enjoyed monthly meetings with his friends. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed deer and rabbit hunting. However, his true passion was fishing. He fished the local trout streams and enjoyed his trips to Erie and Canada for salmon. He never missed an opening day! Playing cards was another one of his pastimes. He especially liked the game of “cinch.” He and Jane attended all the local tournaments and even taught his family how to play this fun card game. He looked forward to yearly camping trips and picnics at Twin Lakes with his grandchildren.
Jerome was a true family man; a loving husband, Dad, Pop-Pop and Great Pop-Pop. He was affectionately known as “Romie” to his family, “Whitey” to his friends and “Jitterbug” to his work family. He was a kind and gentle man, with a sharp mind and a great sense of humor.
Maynard F. “Butch” Sheley, 80, of 107 Pope Road, St. Marys, PA
Maynard F. “Butch” Sheley, 80, of 107 Pope Road, St. Marys, lost his battle to lung cancer Friday, April 19, 2024 at Penn Highlands Elk with his family by his side.
He was born February 27, 1944 in Olean, NY, son of the late Maynard W. and Mercedes Haggerty Sheley. He moved to the area in 1966 and provided his expertise to so many in the area as a carpenter, with a specialty in cabinetry.
On April 25, 1987, in St. Marys, Butch married Gail (Hanes) Hanlin, who survives.
Raymond P. Nearing, 75, of 2075 Horner Road, Wilcox, PA
Raymond P. Nearing, 75, of 2075 Horner Road, Wilcox, PA, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, April 19, 2024, after a lengthy illness. He was lovingly known as Ray-Ray and Eamo by his family and friends.
He was born on September 28, 1948 in Kane, PA to the late Linus and Margaret Pavlina Nearing. He attended both Wilcox and Johnsonburg Area Schools, graduating from Johnsonburg High School in 1966. Ray worked at Keystone Powdered Metals for over 40 years. Ray was a member of the Kane Elks, Kane Country Club, and the Wilcox Sportsmen’s Club. He enjoyed riding his Harley, bowling, reading, driving his classic cars, and golfing.
Randy M. Schneider, 52, of Main Street, Kersey, PA
Randy M. Schneider, 52, of Main Street, Kersey, PA passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 18, 2024.
He was born on September 16, 1971 in Ridgway, PA, a son of the late Kenneth Schneider and Judith Geci Schneider.
On June 30, 2006, he married the love of his life, E’Dee Caskey Schneider, whom he continued to love and cherish for all of his days.
Randy was a member of St. Boniface Church. He was a talented and passionate woodworker, creating beautiful works of art from a block of wood. Always enjoying the peace and tranquility of the outdoors, he never turned down the chance to go for a ride, especially to Hicks Run. He also loved hunting, fishing, and his puppy, Jake. One of life’s greatest joys for Randy was his boy, Tyler, of whom he was so proud and was a loving and devoted father. Randy’s world revolved around E’Dee and Tyler, and a day never passed where he didn’t tell his family and show them how much he loved them.
2 Mile Roadside Cleanup by Potter County Democrats

The Potter County Democratic Committee has officially adopted this section of State Rt. 44 as part of the PennDOT “Adopt-a-Highway” program. The clean-up took place on Earth Day, Saturday, April 20th. Numerous bags of trash were collected, giving the roadway a much-improved appearance.
State Rt. 44 was specifically selected by the Committee since it traverses Potter County north to south and serves as a gateway to many communities and points of interest including the Dark Skies at Cherry Springs State Park.

Atlee Weaver of Port Allegany, PA lost his life in a logging accident this past week. A dead tree fell on him.
He leaves behind a wife and young child. Our friends at RAM Forest Products were able to deliver our Alift check to the family but they can use your prayers as they mourn the loss of their husband and father. This is the 4th accident this year with two being fatalities.

Structure Fire In Wetmore Twp.
On April 21, Kane Fire Dept. and Ambulance were dispatched to 403 Pine St. for a structure fire with entrapment. The fire has been upgraded to a second alarm Ludlow Fire Dept. has also dispatched. Wilcox was dispatched. One Person was rescued from an upper story roof. The fire is out mop up is in progress
PennDOT McKean County Maintenance Work Schedule for the Week of April 22
Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced the following schedule of maintenance activities in McKean County the week of April 15. PennDOT performs year-round maintenance in its mission to provide a safe, efficient transportation system, and the scope of work in McKean County for the coming week is as follows:
Bridge Maintenance & Cleaning
- Route 346 (Washington Street) at a bridge near Hedgehog Lane in Bradford Township. Monday, April 22, through Friday, April 26. This work takes place off the roadway and has minimal, if any, traffic impact.
Pennsylvania has some of the oldest bridges in the country, with an age of more than 50 years on average. Preventive maintenance is vital in extending the life of the structures. As such, PennDOT maintenance crews perform some bridge deck patching and structural repairs.
Paid CNA Courses Accepting Admissions
BRADFORD, PA – The Pavilion, the skilled nursing facility at Bradford Regional Medical Center (BRMC), is offering paid certified nursing assistant (CNA) courses. The classes start upon acceptance into the program and offers rolling admissions throughout the year.
The Pennsylvania Department of Education-approved course provides paid training for students. Evening and weekend classes may also be available.
Silent Sky Features the Story of Henrietta Leavitt
Rehearsals are well underway for Hamilton-Gibson Productions’ presentation of Silent Sky, a play that shows its main character, Henrieta Leavitt, attempting to balance her work aspirations with home and family life.
Director Jessie Thompson says, “We hope to not only share the story of her significant contributions to science, but also to show what obstacles were in place, and how she dealt with them. She had strong and sometimes complicated family ties, and achieving certain milestones in her work was also very important to her.”
Bradford Hospital Foundation to host Women’s Wellness Tea on May 11
BRADFORD, PA – Bradford Hospital Foundation (BHF), the fundraising and philanthropic organization that supports Bradford Regional Medical Center (BRMC), is hosting a Women’s Wellness Tea on Saturday, May 11. The event is taking place at the Pennhills Country Club, Bradford, PA with all proceeds benefitting the BHF Sabrina Goode Imaging Services Fund.
Democrats Donate to Cuba Food Pantry
Belmont, NY – The Allegany County Democrats collected 12 bags/boxes of non-perishable food and personal care items when they met recently in Cuba. The goods were donated to the food pantry operated by the Cuba Council of Churches: Our Lady of Angels Roman Catholic Church, Christ Episcopal Church, First Baptist Church, Cuba United Methodist Church, and North Park Wesleyan Church. This service project is one of the ways the Democratic Committee lives its motto: “Serving our Community”.
“It always warms the heart and stirs the soul to see the people of our community step up to take care of the poor,” states Pastor Jon Ward of North Park Wesleyan. “Our Food Pantry is for the residents of the Cuba part of the Cuba-Rushford School District. We assist people with food in difficult times as well as gas vouchers for medical trips or job interviews, lodging in emergency situations, and a massive Holiday Assistance Program each year at Christmas”.
