Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) today announced that all driver license and photo centers, including its full-service center in Harrisburg, will be closed Thursday, July 4, 2024, in observance of Independence Day. 

Customers may still obtain a variety of driver and vehicle products and services, including all forms, publications and driver training manuals, online through PennDOT’s Driver and Vehicle Services website, www.dmv.pa.gov.    

Driver and vehicle online services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and include driver’s license, photo ID and vehicle registration renewals; driver-history services; changes of address; driver license and vehicle registration restoration letters; ability to pay driver license or vehicle insurance restoration fee; driver license and photo ID duplicates; REAL ID pre-verification; and driver exam scheduling. There are no additional fees for using online services.

A complete listing of PennDOT driver and photo license center closings in 2024 is available online. If you are planning to visit one of PennDOT’s On-Line Messenger Service Centers, please call ahead for hours of operation during holidays.

Motorists can check conditions on major roadway miles by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information, and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras.

511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional alerts on X.

Mark E. Young, 65, of Galeton, PA, passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at UPMC Cole in Coudersport, PA.  Born March 1, 1959, in Lancaster, PA, he was a son of the late James F. Young and A. Yvonne (Schneider) Young of Mt. Joy, PA. Mark graduated from Bayside High School in Virginia Beach, VA.

He was a Public Insurance Adjuster based in Bensalem, PA. On June 7, 2000, he married the former Marion Teachman, who survives.  He was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary in Mt. Joy and a member of the Wellsboro Moose.

Thomas  A. Perry, 82, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, of 314 Seaward Avenue, Bradford, passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at The Pavilion @ BRMC. 

Born on March 3, 1942, in Bradford, he was a son of the late Roy C. and Ruth (Miller) and Perry. He was a 1961 graduate of Bradford Area High School.

On June 1, 1974, in the First Presbyterian Church, he married Deborah L. (Abbott) Perry who survives.

This weekend, Hamilton-Gibson Productions presents Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, the Broadway hit by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, first mounted in New York in 1982 after being developed in the UK throughout the 1970s. Interestingly, it was also during this time that the first productions of the musical Jesus Christ Superstar (also by Lloyd Webber and Rice) were being mounted, another show with biblical roots where the story is told completely through music, and dubbed a “rock opera”. Joseph tells the classic bible tale of jealousy, betrayal and reconciliation all through music, but because of the show’s unique variety of musical genres it is impossible to give one overall descriptor to its musical style.  

Two new PA Wilds Conservation Shops have opened this year in the Pennsylvania Wilds. Operated by the nonprofit PA Wilds Center for Entrepreneurship (PA Wilds Center), these mission-driven gift shops help improve market access for rural entrepreneurs by sourcing 90 percent of their inventory from rural makers and businesses in the 13-county PA Wilds region, while also accomplishing other mission points.

In Tioga County, the PA Wilds Center has transitioned from a mobile Conservation Shop that it has operated for the last few years at Leonard Harrison State Park, at the PA Grand Canyon, to a permanent brick-and-mortar store. In Forest County, another store has opened within an historic train depot in Marienville, along the nearly 74-mile Knox and Kane Rail Trail.

Impatient, who me? Never. Well almost never. Okay, maybe a lot. You would think that I would have developed patience over my lifetime, but I haven’t. For some things I can be very patient, while others, not so much. Why? What is the cause of our impatience? Why do some suffer from it more than others. Is there a healthy balance?

Surprisingly, impatience and anxiety go hand in hand. We might not view it as such, but it is. Jesus told us to be anxious for nothing but that doesn’t stop us, does it? I’ve often wondered if impatience and anxiety have more to do with being self-absorbed with what we want, when we want it, and how it makes us feel when things don’t go our way.

We live in a very ME focused society. What’s in it for me is often the filter that we use before we agree to do many things. To die to yourself is not a norm. After all, if I die to myself then what’s in it for me? No, we want what we want when we want it and dying to yourself doesn’t fit into that plan.

Instant gratification is all about impatience. Our society is dotted with fast food, instant coffee, and oatmeal just to name a few. What happened to the day when we’d sit around a meal, talk, and otherwise savor the moment of relationship. Instead, we’re interrupted with text messages, email notifications and phone calls that we just must take. Just the other day I was with someone whose phone was constantly chirping while we were trying to have a meal together. Is it any wonder why we all seem to be bothered by impatience when our world is constantly vying for our attention?

Admittedly I struggle with impatience. That, along with other idiosyncrasies, I struggle with the idea of letting Christ reign in my thoughts and actions. It’s a battle that I must die to daily and that’s the point. The only time that I have the power to overcome the impatience that plagues my life is right now, in this moment. Think about it.

​Montoursville, PA – Motorists are advised that a bridge replacement and roadway project will begin on Route 287 in Pine Township, Lycoming County.

Starting on Monday, July 8, 2024, Route 287 will be closed at Lick Run Road (Route 4006), while the contractor, LTT Trucking LLC, begins work to replace the structure carrying Route 287 over Lick Run.

• A detour using Route 184, Route 15 (Steam Valley), Route 414 (Liberty) will be in place through August 5, 2024.

Emporium Knights of Columbus Supports Dickinson Center

ST. MARYS, Pa (June 24, 2024)– The Emporium Knights of Columbus Council 990 and the Emporium Christabelle Club recently donated to Dickinson Center, Inc., a Journey Health System affiliate, for their “Building for Tomorrow” campaign supporting the St. Marys’ building project. Thanks to the collective generosity of individuals, foundations, businesses, and organizations like the Emporium Knights of Columbus and Christabelle Club, Dickinson has achieved 87% of its fundraising goal, reaching $1,301,021. However, they still aim to reach their $1.5 million goal, with $198,979 left to secure. Dickinson and the campaign committee extend their hopes that others will join in supporting their cause, recognizing that every contribution brings them closer to their objective.   

“The generosity and commitment of the Emporium Knights of Columbus and Christabelle Club to the community are truly commendable,” said Tana Smith, Journey Health System’s Director of Institutional Advancement. “As a native of Emporium, this donation holds special significance for me, reflecting my father’s long-standing dedication to the Christabelle Club and Emporium Knights of Columbus. It also embodies the close-knit support and hometown spirit that make Emporium and our surrounding communities so incredible.”

PCVC wants every dog, cat, and ferret over the age of 12 weeks to be properly vaccinated for Rabies. This is required by law, and in order to make it affordable to everyone in our community, we offer a drive-through clinic once a year. This event is held in the parking lot here at PCVC. ​Coudersport, Pennsylvania — Department of Conservation and Natural Resources State Parks Director John Hallas today announced the beginning of a construction project to reconfigure the entrances at Cherry Springs State Park in Potter County.

The project will create a new entrance to the public programming area of the park, eliminating issues caused by headlights at the current entry/exit point to the astronomy fields.

“This new, reconfigured entrance will change visitor flow into the park and help manage the larger crowds we are seeing at Cherry Springs,” Hallas said. “We are truly excited to create the best experience for all visitors to the park and thank the public in advance for its patience with this project.”

In addition to moving the park entrance, the project will construct a new contact station for information, lit visitor walkways, a programming pavilion, amphitheater, and new parking areas.​

“Part of the Master Plan for Cherry Springs was the relocation of the park entrance, and we are thankful to the local astronomers and park visitors who have helped the Bureau of State Parks determine what is best for all at Cherry Springs, especially when it comes to the dark sky viewing opportunities,” Hallas said.

The project is underway and will be completed in the fall.

No impacts are expected to fall events, though there may be programming modifications. Contact the park office or check the Cherry Springs web page for details.
