Jim – as he was known – was a longtime resident of Salamanca, graduating from Salamanca High School in 1962. After graduating from Alfred State College with a degree in engineering, Jim served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict.

Joan E. Getgen, 81, of Wellsboro, passed away at The Green Home on Thursday August 29, 2024, one day before her 82nd birthday, surrounded by loving family. She was born August 30, 1942, in Wellsboro and was the first baby born at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, she was the daughter of Lewis and Lenora “Patsy” (Patt) Bowers. Joan was the wife of Eugene D. Getgen and enjoyed life together through the years.

Timothy A. Cradduck, 65, of 7597 Miller Hollow Rd., Little Genesee, passed away Sunday August 25, 2024 at home on his favorite glider after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on May 24, 1959, in Olean, he was a son of Charles and Marilyn Miller Cradduck.
Tim lived in the area all of his life. He had worked for the Genesee Hardware and for Faulkner’s Fruit Stand before going to work for Wayne Paving in Shinglehouse as a roller operator, retiring in 2021.
He was a member of the Bolivar Horseshoe League, was an excellent handyman remodeling his entire home and his daughter’s homes as well. He also enjoyed painting cars and was often found helping neighbors, friends, and family alike. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed being outside near the fire camping as well as snowmobiling.

PENNSYLVANIA ELK COMING INTO SEASON
The action is heating up on northcentral Pennsylvania’s elk range, and the Pennsylvania Game Commission once again is inviting people everywhere to view it in real time online.
The Game Commission’s Elk Cam, a 24-7 livestream that can be accessed through www.pgc.pa.gov, launched last week. And if history is an indicator, the best is yet to come, with elk continually becoming more active in coming weeks and putting on a show for the camera.

Today, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), and others held a media availability at Blue Marsh Lake, Berks County, to promote safe boating statewide throughout the Labor Day holiday weekend.
For many Pennsylvanians, Labor Day weekend marks the unofficial end to the popular summer boating season which began on Memorial Day weekend, and is enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of boaters, anglers, and water sports enthusiasts on 86,000 miles of rivers, lakes, and streams across the Commonwealth.
While boating activity continues year-round, weather permitting, on many waters, most boaters will reduce their activity just as school resumes and attention turns to other fall activities.

McKean County is seeking qualified and highly motivated applicants for a full-time Information Technology System Technician located in Smethport, Pennsylvania.
Under the direction of the Information Technology Director, the primary objective of this role is to establish and maintain a secure information network system and infrastructure for the local county government. This includes providing technical support to departmental staff, addressing technology needs, and ensuring the smooth operation of all network-related functions.
Qualifications:
- Education: Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field preferred.
- Certifications: Relevant certifications are a plus.
Responsibilities:
The key responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
- Offering frontline support of technology end-users, encompassing application assistance, help desk services, and system access/security administration via Active Directory services.
- Supervising all telecommunication aspects, including LAN (Local Area Network), WAN (Wide Area Network), VPN (Virtual Private Network) and county telephone systems.
- Assisting in statewide implementation of state-mandated systems for all county government departments.
- Oversee Cybersecurity at all levels, including the implementation and management of cybersecurity protocols, firewalls, MFS, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and regular security audits to protect against unauthorized access, data breaches, and other security threats.
- Acting as the central coordinator of personal computers, serving as the primary point of vendor contact and providing internal expertise for all telecommunications. As part of the telecommunications expertise this would include network cameras (used for surveillance and monitoring), courtroom audio-video equipment (utilized for legal proceedings recording and broadcasting), virtualized infrastructure technologies (such as virtual machines and hypervisors for efficient resource management), and video conferencing solutions (for remote meetings and collaboration).
- Conducting support activities, including hardware and software installations, upgrades and troubleshooting.
- Install personal computers and peripherals while delivering user support services.
- Use of a personal vehicle to travel between county buildings in Smethport, PA, and to District Justice offices in Bradford, PA, and Kane, PA, as required for job-related duties. Mileage reimbursement will be provided in accordance with county policy.

Potter County Farmers Market Friday, August 30th
The Potter County Farmers Market will be outdoors on the square across from the county jail, every Friday (weather permitting) from 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm. The next market will be this Friday, August 30th. Below is a list of who plans to be there and what they plan on bringing to the Market:
* The outdoor market is held each Friday from May through October (weather permitting; on very rainy days, we will relocate into the Riley Gallery (if available)). In November, the farmers market goes indoors for the winter market.
KANE MAN SENTENCED FOR RAPE AND INCEST

(MCKEAN COUNTY, Pennsylvania: August 29, 2024): District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer reports that the Kane man convicted of Rape and Incest at a jury trial last August has been sentenced to State Prison for his crimes by the Judge.
Brian GAUSMAN, of Kane, was convicted of Rape, Involuntary Deviate Sexual Intercourse, Incest and related crimes. Following conviction, he was required to undergo an assessment by the Sexual Offender Assessment Board who opined that he meets the definition of Sexually Violent Predator under Pennsylvania Law. Upon the receipt of the assessment, the Court held a hearing to determine if GAUSMAN should be classified as a Sexually Violent Predator.

At 450 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along
a line extending from 14 miles west of Wellsboro to 27 miles south of
Wellsville. Movement was east-southeast at 25 mph.
HAZARD…Wind gusts up to 50 mph and pea size hail.
SOURCE…Radar indicated.
IMPACT…Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is
possible.
