Job Announcement: Outreach and Communications Advisor
The Potter County Conservation District is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Outreach and Communications Advisor. The position will be full-time (37.5 hours/week) with a probationary period of six months. The purpose of this position is to oversee the general planning, development, and direction of all communications of the District. Coordinate programs, social media, news releases, and other forms or publication to build and sustain a positive image of the District in the public. The qualified applicant must have a high school diploma or equivalent, be able to obtain required clearances, and a valid driver’s license. Candidates are preferred to have a degree in an Environmental Field (Biology, Environmental Science, Ecology, etc.), Communications, Public Relations, or another related field. The position involves extensive contact, both by phone and in person, with a variety of District customers and partners. The person in this position must have excellent communication skills, a pleasant disposition, be courteous, and detail oriented. Tasks will be assigned and supervised by the District Manager per program needs.

Week four Rotary visitors were Cole Moore and Lily Madison

Week four Rotary visitors were Cole Moore and Lily Madison. Lily is the daughter of Pastor J.T. and Carri Madison. Her school activities include being a member of the soccer team, track and field team, Marching Band, Drama Club, Concert Band, Concert Choir, Chamber Singers,Jazz Band, Peer Helpers and Enrichment. She has received a certificate of Merit from the state of PA, Frederick Couglass and Susan B. Anthony Award for Social Sciences from the University of Rochester and the Pastor Randy Headley Memorial Award for Community Service. Lily plans to attend a 4-year college for a pre-medicine degree and go to medical school to become a physician. She would like to join Doctors Without Borders. Cole is the son of Ronald Moore, Jr. and Rebecca brodhun. His grandparents are Ronald Moore, Sr, and Lorna Moore. He has three sisters and two brothers. He wrestled throughout his grade school. He is in the Automotive class at the Career and Technical Center. Cole went to work at age 14 and hasn’t done sports since that time. His plans are to go to Alfred State for Automotive Mechanics.
Lily was introduced to the club by Susan Flint. Anna Fair introduced Cole. Protarm of the day was Rod and Ruth Johnson with their Search and Rescue dogs.
Dr. Peder J. HANCHER, DDS, 84, of Wellsville, NY

Dr. Peder J. HANCHER, DDS, 84, of Wellsville, NY passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 21, 2024 in his home surrounded by his loving family.
He had suffered from Frontotemporal Dementia for the last four years. Born October 9, 1940 in Buffalo, NY, he was the son of James Herman and Eveleth Pedersen Hancher. A graduate of Holland Central School, he received his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Union College and his DDS from University of Buffalo.
Donna F. LAMPMAN, 83, of Ulysses, PA

Donna F. LAMPMAN, 83, of Ulysses, PA, died Thursday, November 21, 2024 in UPMC Cole, Coudersport after a long battle with metastatic breast cancer. Born April 5, 1941, in Troupsburg, NY, she was the daughter of Albert A. and Elsie M. Bailey Cornish.
A 1958 graduate of Troupsburg Central School, she was employed by Galeton Production and Electri-Cord in Westfield. Her interests included tending to her house plants and reading. She loved spending time with her family.
John W. Hemphill, 66, of Shinglehouse, PA.

John W. Hemphill “beloved father, son, brother, and uncle”
John W. Hemphill, 66, of Shinglehouse, passed away with his loving family by his side on Sunday, November 24, 2024, in UPMC Hamot, Erie, after a long illness.
Born on Wednesday, February 19, 1958 in Olean, NY, he was a son of William L. “Bill” and Sharon G. Goodman Hemphill. On July 21, 2000 in Swoyersville, he married Tanya L. Ayers, who passed away on May 20, 2014.
John was a graduate of Oswayo Valley High School, Class of 1976, in Shinglehouse. He served in the US Army for 5 years attaining the rank of Buck Sargent. He served in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and had also was stationed at Dexheim, West Germany.
John held a number of occupations and operated several businesses. He was a self-employed welder and was also was a factory welder having worked at Dresser-Rand in Olean, NY and Air Pre-Heater in Wellsville, NY. He was a flight instructor and a commercial pilot.
Gregory C. Barrera, 67, of Rt. 46 in Smethport, PA

Gregory C. Barrera, 67, of Rt. 46 in Smethport, passed away Thursday, November 21, 2024, at his residence with his wife at his side.
Born in San Gabriel, CA on June 21, 1957, he was a son of Raymond Barrera, Sr., of San Gabriel, CA and the late Vivian (Candela) Barrera.
He was a 1975 graduate of San Gabriel High School.
On June 28, 1978, he joined the United States Army. He spent his four years as a Firefighter, and Food Service Specialist. He was honorably discharged on June 27, 1981.
On September 26, 1998, in Big Bear Lake CA, he married Toni Rae (Lester) Barrera, who survives.

Linda L. Howard, 81, of Russell, Pa, formerly of Neiltown, Pa, died on Saturday November 23, 2024, in St. Vincent Hospital, Erie, Pa.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday November 26, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home Inc., 304 East Street Warren Pa, 16365.
Funeral services and burial in Neiltown Cemetery will be private and held at the convenience of the family. A complete obituary will be published when its available.
James L. CRAMER, 71, of Bath, NY, formerly of Whitesville, NY

James L. CRAMER, 71, of Bath, NY, formerly of Whitesville, died Thursday, November 21, 2024 in the Steuben Center, Bath.
Born October 13, 1953, in Hornell, he was the son of Barry C. and M. Barbara Cleveland Cramer. A graduate of Whitesville Central School, he served honorably in the U.S. Army.
Through the years, he was employed by Pennsylvania Railroad, Fitzpatrick Poultry Farms, Morrison-Knudsen in Hornell, and as a self-employed logger.
Surviving are: his mother, M. Barbara Cramer of South Carolina; five children, Jeana (Jason) Wood of Sebastian, FL, Jeremy (Brenda Davenport) Cramer of Genesee, PA, Zachariah Cramer of Whitesville, Ashley Cramer of Rochester, and Christen Cramer of Harrison Valley, PA; six grandchildren, Sarah, Mackenzie, Chelsey, Tyler, Ervin, and Kindbud; ten great-grandchildren; three brothers, Barry Cramer, Jr. of TN, Scott Cramer of SC, and Jon (Stephanie) Cramer of SC; four sisters, Jacqueline Robbins of Whitesville, Penny Bryant of Whitesville, Becky (Johnny) Marlow of NC, and Loni (Paul) Phelps of Whitesville; nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father; and three siblings, Terry Cramer, Joseph Cramer, and Paul Cramer.
Services will be private. Cremation was at OLNEY-FOUST Private Crematory.

Born on Wednesday, January 14, 1953 in New Jersey, she was a daughter of Edward R. and Helen Virginia Watts Wondrack.
Penn College spotlight on wrestling, basketball
Pennsylvania College of Technology’s wrestling team had two individual champions — including the most outstanding — one second-place finisher and two third-place finishers to end third among eight teams in its own invitational on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the college’s basketball teams are set to begin United East Conference play on Tuesday at home, with the women facing Lancaster Bible College at 5 p.m. and the men playing Penn State Brandywine at 7 p.m.
John A. “Jack” Grube, 89 of 100 High Point Dr., Kane, PA.

John A. “Jack” Grube, 89 of 100 High Point Dr., passed away Friday (Nov. 15) at in the Lutheran Home at Kane. Born Oct. 6, 1935, in Punxsutawney, he was the son of the late Russell and Ellen (Shirk) Grube.
After graduating from Cameron County High School in 1955 Jack entered the Air Force and was stationed at Scott’s Air Force Base in Illinois. On June 8, 1956, in Belleville, IL he married his high school sweetheart, Donna Caton, who survives. Upon returning he worked for many years at the Quality Market, Market Basket, and was the Food Service Director for The Nutrition Group in Kane and Brockway. After “retiring” he worked for the KASD providing specialized transportation for many years. He was a past member of the Kane Lions Club, the Men’s Chorus, and participated in several productions of the Kane Players. He was also a member of the Kane Sports Boosters being inducted into the Sports Boosters Hall of Fame after nearly 50 years of working the chain gang and running the clock for football and running the time clock for basketball, volleyball, and wrestling. He was a very active member of St. John’s Episcopal Church where he held several organizational positions. Jack was awarded the Ambassador of Peace medal for missionary work in Spain along with his good friend, the Rev. Stephen Shuart.

Second hour will be free time to use the provided materials to create a new ornament from your own imagination. Materials and assistance provided. Program is free. All ages and experience levels welcome. Children under age 10 require adult supervision.
