On February 18th at approximately 8:45 p.m. a Search Warrant was conducted at 905 W. Henley St. by members of the Olean Police Department. This Search warrant was obtained by the Street Crimes Unit. Investigators located a safe in the residence and after gaining entry they found three handguns, approximately 15 ounces of Cocaine, approximately 1 ounce of Fentanyl, cash and some other drug related items. The resident, Janine Heitzinger was not present at the time of this Warrant. Charges are pending and this investigation is ongoing. The Street Crimes Unit was assisted by the Southern Tier regional drug task force.

Are you driven? Driven in the sense that you’re on a mission and nothing can deter you from accomplishing said mission?
As I drove over the mountain the other day, I was amazed at the cloud formation that awaited me. It was stunning and beautiful all at the same time. Sadly, I was too much of a hurry to stop and take a picture. What’s wrong with me? Why do I have to be so driven? When did I start being that way or have I always been that way?
Some will be able to relate. I tend to make it a game to beat the GPS time. I don’t like to stop for the bathroom unless I need gas and to buy food. My idea of visiting sights is to slow up as I’m driving by and maybe a quick picture without stopping. I’m almost obsessed with overcoming the car in front of me. Do you need more examples? Is it me or is it a guy thing? Was I born this way or was it developed over time? The answer to those questions and more are elusive and yet I ask anyway. You see, I don’t like to be driven. I like taking the time to look and explore and sometimes I’m good at it. But not always.
The Apostle Paul said in Colossians 3:15 “let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts”. I try to practice this, but it doesn’t come naturally. When you’re driven, peace isn’t there until all that is before you is completed. But is that really peace or is it only satisfaction in the moment until some other project or mission is identified and a new goal is perceived? What is peace anyway?
Peace defined is “freedom from disturbance”. It’s related to calmness, restfulness and quiet. It sounds simple enough so why is it so elusive? Why must it be tied to the end of a task and not before? Why can’t it be part and parcel to the task so that you have peace during the execution of the task? Is it all about competition and winning? The answers allude me, but I’m not giving up. I want the peace that Paul talks about, so I press on to accomplish that which is before me, peace. Think about it.
Thomas P. “Slats” Farley, 87, of St. Marys, unexpectedly joined his wife in Heaven on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at Penn Highlands Elk.
He was born on February 14, 1938 in St. Marys, PA, a son of the late Paul and Helen Yeager Farley.
On January 28, 1961, he married the late Sandra E. Farley, who proceeded him in death just 5 days before him on February 21, 2025. After having been inseparable for more than 64 years, Tom’s devotion to Sandy was unending, and they are now together again.
Thomas was a graduate of Central High School and worked as an usher at The Harris Theatre. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving aboard the destroyer ship USS Ross. He worked in the machine shop at Stackpole in St. Marys (and later in Johnsonburg) as well as at GKN in Emporium until his retirement. Thomas served as a St. Marys City Councilman from 2002-2009 and was a member of the St. Marys Servicemen’s Burial Detail and The Singing Dutchmen.
Ann M. Lucia McAvoy, 104, of Warren, PA., died peacefully, Monday evening, February 24, 2025, at the Rouse Home, Youngsville, PA., after a long life, surrounded by her loving family.
Ann was born September 16, 1920, in Warren, PA. She was the daughter of Peter and Mamie Scalise Lucia. She was a 1937 graduate of Warren High School and attended 8 years at St. Joseph School. She was a graduate of Ora Jean Beauty Academy in Erie, PA. and owned and operated her own beauty salon. In 1952 she moved to Sheffield, PA., where she resided for 50 years. She also was employed with New Process Company, working nights before she went to beauty school. She loved spending her birthday with her children at the casino. Ann loved to bowl most her life and she was an avid crocheter and knitter for her children and grandchildren. She loved to play cards. Ann was a member of St. Joseph R.C. Church. Prior to Ann’s stay at the Rouse, she was a resident of the Watson Memorial Home.

Rep. Clint Owlett (R-Tioga/Bradford) is inviting area sportsmen and sportswomen to his upcoming Game Commission Night featuring a discussion of the state’s white-tailed deer population and habitat.
The event will be held on Tuesday, March 11, from 6-8 p.m. at Peppers Auction Barn, located east of Canton at 13580 State Route 414. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.
The presentation will be led by Pennsylvania Game Commission Whitetail Deer Biologist Maureen Staats, along with forester Chad Barclay, who will talk about how people can make their property good for deer.

K-Leigh Oshia Hill-Nelson, 28, of Port Allegany, passed away Sunday (February 23, 2025).
She was born December 17, 1996 in Coudersport, the daughter of Robert and the late Angel (Nelson) Hill.
K-Leigh was a graduate of Port Allegany High School Class of 2015 and worked as a CNA at Lakeview Healthcare & Rehabilitation Ctr., Smethport.
She loved spending time with her son and family. She was extremely loved by her family, friends and her co-workers and residents at Lakeview Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center and Sweden Valley Manor. She was a kind and caring soul that will deeply be missed.

Lecretia A. HARING, 62, of Harrisburg, PA, formerly of Ulysses, died Friday, February 21, 2025, in her home.
Born December 11, 1962, in Wellsville, NY, she was the daughter of William I. and Mary Jane Chase Haskins. A 1981 graduate of Northern Potter High School, she was employed by PrimeCare Medical Inc. Lecretia was a member of The First Baptist Church of Ulysses. She was also a thirty-one-year member of Ulysses Chapter of OES #95. She lived a life that was fulfilled by love for her four boys. Her passion and driving force in life was her four grandsons.
Lecretia had a smile that would light up any room. She loved to bake and anytime you got a call that she was bringing baked goods it was a fight for who would get how many of each. She would do anything for anyone at the drop of a hat. Her compassion for anyone in need was unmatched. She has left a void that will never be able to be filled. Her personality, love, passion, and generosity are just not something that can be matched. She will never be forgotten.
Gary Edward FALK, 78, of Kane, PA, formerly of Port Allegany, died Monday, February 24, 2025 in his home.
Born January 17, 1947, in Coudersport, he was the son of Vernon M. and Mildred L. Overdorf Falk. On June 21, 1969, in Port Allegany, he married Alice A. Cornwell, who survives. A 1964 graduate of Port Allegany High School, he attended Erie Business School for a couple years. Gary was employed by Kesco Hardware in Port Allegany, Clark Brothers in Olean, and retired from Saint-Gobain Glass Plant in 2002.
He was also a realtor for North Country Reality. Gary was fond of all things outdoors. In the winter, he could be found on the area’s many cross-country ski trails enjoying the snow and the company of friends. During the warmer weather, you could find him on his bike traveling many miles across the roads and highways. He was also an avid organic gardener, proudly selling his homegrown produce he grew on Green Darner Farm on Two Mile Road and local farmers markets. He was known to many for his top-of-the-line flavorful garlic. He was also a talented amateur photographer and enjoyed birdwatching.
Daniel F. “Danny” GLASSMIRE, VI, 42, of Coudersport, PA, passed away Monday, February 24, 2025 in UPMC Shadyside, Pittsburgh, surrounded by his family following a hard fought battle with cancer.

Ada M. PALMATIER, 86, of Genesee, PA, passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2025 in Sweden Valley Manor, Coudersport.
Born December 13, 1938, in Hickox, she was the daughter of Merle “Mike” and Ruth Whitaker Dunbar. She was a 1956 graduate of Genesee High School. On March 23, 1957, in North Bingham, she married Leonard Jerald “Jerry” Palmatier, who predeceased her on January 6, 2017. Ada and Jerry owned and operated a dairy farm for many years. She was a bus driver in the Northern Potter School Distrist for 40 years.
Surviving are: three children, Len (Melonie) Palmatier of Genesee, Amy (Bob) Ellison of Whitesville, NY, and Abby (Frank) Dunning of Lawrenceville; grandchildren; ste-grandchildren; great-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Betty J. Palmatier; and a brother, Donald Dunbar. The family will hold a private service in the Ellisburg Union Wesleyan Church. Rev. Roy Ward will officiate. Burial will be in Andrews Settlement Cemetery.

Shirley C. BILLINGS, 69, of Hallsport, NY, died Wednesday, February 26, 2025, in Jones Memorial Hospital, Wellsville.
Born July 6, 1955, in Wellsville, she was the daughter of Ronald and Beverly Grace Smith Billings. In spite of her handicaps and health issues her entire life, Shirley never let them hinder her from being a part of whatever activities her family was doing. Her family and friends have always been important and special to her. Her nieces and nephews have always held a special place in her heart and life. Babysitting was especially a highlight in Shirley’s life. Another highlight in her life was church. She was a volunteer at Southern Tier Youth for Christ. Shirley took great delight in photographing many family events and shopping for her family members.
John W. Dippold, Jr., 83, of 507 N. St. Marys Street, St. Marys, passed away with his family by his side Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at Penn Highlands Elk.
He was born August 17, 1941 in St. Marys, son of the late John W. and Jeanne Smith Dippold. He was a lifelong resident of the area, a graduate of St. Marys Area High School, Class of 1959, and owned JWD Associates as a manufacturer’s representative for many companies.
Johnsonburg, Pa.: John and Isaac Dellaquilla, a predator hunting family, harvested predators for all three weekends of Rolfe Beagle Club’s Coyote and Fox Hunt or Trap. They finished up the Hunt or Trap with a total of six coyotes and two foxes at the weigh station.
On Friday, John harvested a 32.4# male coyote at 8:30 pm on private lands in Elk County. John hunts with .243 rifle and a thermal scope. John primarily scans for predators but, if he does any calling it is usually minimal.
Isaac, John’s son, showed his prowess as a predator hunter by harvesting a 30.6# male coyote at 4:00 am on Saturday. He followed up the success Sunday morning at 3:30 am with a 25.4# female coyote. In addition, Isaac also harvested a male red fox weighing 12.2#. Isaac also shoots a .243 with a thermal scope. All of the harvests were on private lands in Elk County.
