The Community Education Center’s Leadership Elk and Cameron program’s (LEC) monthly session focused on economic development, environment & tourism in Cameron County. The day started at Embassy Powdered Metals with a tour of the facility.  After Embassy, they traveled to Emporium Hardwoods for a tour of their facility.  The participants then headed to Sarah Jane’s Art Studio where she gave a brief history of her studio and her own story of how she became a Cameron County resident.  While at Sarah Jane’s Art Studio the group enjoyed a delicious lunch from Uptown Girls sponsored by Emporium Hardwoods.  After lunch the group heard a presentation from The PA Wilds Center for Entrepreneurship & The Lumber Heritage Region.

In 2022, NY State passed the Companion Animal Care Standards Act based on the Association of Shelter Veterinarians’ Guidelines for Standards of Care in Animal Shelters. Cattaraugus County is not a wealthy area, and while they do offer grants, New York State is not funding the project.

Port Allegany – Dreda Smithmyer, 61, of Roulette, passed away on Monday (October 27, 2025) at her home in Roulette.

Ceres Township Board of Supervisors meeting date is changed to, Tuesday,  November 11, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. due to voting taking place on regularly scheduled date. 

Proposed adoption of Ordinance #35 giving Penn Dot authority to act on the Township’s behalf for the Delmar Bridge removal project will take place at the November 11, 2025 meeting instead of the prior advertised date of November 4, 2025.  The ordinance will give PennDOT authority  to obtain Rights-of-way, any PUC, or other permits required. The ordinance will give Supervisor Chairman, Anthony Plants, authority to sign the agreement with PennDot and states that 100% of the funding for removal of the DelMar Bridge will be funded with Pennsylvania state funds. Each November, we “fall back” by setting our clocks one hour earlier as Daylight Saving Time ends. While gaining an extra hour of sleep may sound like a bonus, the shift can still disrupt your body’s internal clock, especially if you’re already sleep-deprived.

Our circadian rhythm, which regulates sleep and wake cycles, is influenced by light exposure. When the clocks change, our exposure to morning and evening light shifts, which can affect sleep quality, mood, and alertness.

Lucille was also a finalist with her AQHA mare “Huntin For Paradise” in Western Showmanship (8-11), Western Horsemanship (8-13), and Western Pleasure Horses (8-13).

RIDGWAY, Pa— During the month of October, Employment Support Services (ESS) at Dickinson Center, Inc. (DCI) celebrates National Disability Employment Awareness Month. This year DCI’s ESS is proud to announce the fifth annual Joseph Goff Memorial Distinguished Worker Award. 

In April of 2021, Joe Goff, passed away suddenly. Joe was a colleague of Dickinson’s ESS team who worked for years at the St Mary’s driver’s license center for B&T Building Services. Joe enjoyed his job, gardening, photography and spending time with his friends.

                BRADFORD, Pa. — The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford hosted a full-day Human Trafficking Awareness and Response Conference Friday, bringing together professionals, students and community members to learn how to recognize and respond to human trafficking.

                One hundred nursing, criminal justice and computer information systems and technology majors from Pitt-Bradford and the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville heard from speakers who included a trafficking survivor, a state legislator and representatives from healthcare, law enforcement, higher education and victim advocacy who shared perspectives on building awareness and strengthening community-based responses to human trafficking.

                During a panel discussion, participants urged others to see the humanity of those being trafficked.

BRADFORD, Pa. — Haunted forests, gothic castles, and things that go bump in the night will come alive at the Hauntings Literary Tour at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Studio Theater of Blaisdell Hall at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.

The free event will feature a panel of authors — Elizabeth Costello, Carolyn Korsmeyer, Valerie Nieman, Nancy McCabe, and Crissa-Jean Chappell — each presenting from their forthcoming or current novels. Together, they’ll explore how ghosts and the supernatural influence literature and share insights into crafting haunted tales for middle-grade, young-adult, and adult readers.

HARRISBURG, Pa (October 27) – During its quarterly business meeting today, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) encouraged anglers and boaters to take advantage of the many fall and winter fishing and boating opportunities available across the Commonwealth and reminded everyone to make safety a priority while enjoying the water.

Board President and District 2 Commissioner John Mahn, Jr. reminded anglers and boaters about the annual cold weather life jacket requirement that begins on November 1, 2025, and lasts through April 30, 2026.

“With beautiful weather and scenic surroundings continuing to draw people outdoors this fall, many anglers, boaters, and hunters are still very active on our waterways,” said Mahn.  “While we encourage everyone to keep going and enjoy the adventures that still await, we also want to make sure safety is a part of those plans throughout the cold weather months.  Whether you’re paddling on your favorite stream, fishing or waterfowl hunting from a boat, or venturing out onto a frozen lake for ice fishing this winter, please wear your life jacket.  It’s the law this time of year on all kayaks, canoes, and boats under 16 feet.  Life jackets really do save lives.”
