(MCKEAN COUNTY, Pennsylvania:  July 21, 2026):  District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer reports on the medication drop boxes location throughout McKean County. The boxes are for the benefit of anyone who wants to get rid of unused medication.  Each quarter, a County Detective with the District Attorney’s Office empties the boxes and arranges for their destruction by a member of the National Guard as part of a state-wide initiative to reduce access to opiates.  The medication drop boxes are located inside the Kane Municipal Building, Bradford Township Municipal Building, City of Bradford Police Department and McKean County Sheriff’s Department.  The boxes were sponsored by the Pennsylvania District Attorney’s Association and PA American Water Company.  A box is also located at the Pennsylvania State Police-Lewis Run barracks.  The weight of the drugs collected at each of the boxes this quarter was as follows: Kane = 6.5 lbs.; Bradford Township = 16.5 lbs.; McKean County Sheriff’s Office = 24 lbs.; City of Bradford Police = 83.5 lbs.; PA State Police = 3 lbs.
