False Information By Pastor B.J.Knefley

Remember when the Internet was called the “Information Highway”? Perhaps it should now be called the “Misinformation Highway.” Do a search on anything, and you soon learn there are a hundred and one different responses, many of which contradict each other. And if that’s not enough, it would appear that your electronics are listening to every conversation, for as soon as you start discussing a topic, your phone or tablet offers solutions to the same topic you just discussed with your spouse.
I struggle with neuropathy, and although it’s not severe, it does limit my ability to walk for longer periods of time. I’ve recently gone online to search for ideas on how best to treat it. Since I’ve done that, I’ve been
bombarded with advertisements for creams, pills, shoes, and a few other products that are guaranteed to work. I’ve come to realize that I can’t trust any of them. Even if I read the reviews, I know even those aren’t always true. Trust me, I’ve fallen for different products that were “guaranteed” to fix whatever element I was dealing with.
The other morning, I was asked how I was protecting myself against scams. I chuckled to myself as it soon became clear that this person’s mother had fallen for a couple of scams that this person had to fix and get her out of. I believe the question had a lot to do with my age and the fact that elderly people are often more susceptible to Internet scams. Emails and phone calls are filled with scams that are sometimes difficult to identify. Phishing scams abound, and sadly, many fall for their false information.
The Scriptures tell us not to be deceived and to stay watchful, for the devil’s snares are everywhere and he’s searching for whom he can entrap. It used to be that if it looked like a duck, it was probably a duck. Unfortunately, that’s not always true anymore. If it looks like a duck, it might be a serpent. Be careful, as Satan is looking for whom he can devour. Think about it.
