MEALS ON WHEELS DRIVER NEEDED FOR ALLEGANY COUNTY OFFICE FOR THE AGING
The Allegany County Office for the Aging needs a volunteer in the Alfred/Almond and Wellsville area that would be willing to deliver meals to our clients.
The office reimburses for mileage and the volunteer receives a free meal.
If you have about an hour a day and would be willing to deliver meals to elderly friends and neighbors in Alfred/Almond and Wellsville, please call the Allegany County Office for the Aging at (585) 268-9390 and ask to speak to Karen Chamberlain.
CLOSURE OF PORTION OF COUNTY ROAD 26 IN THE TOWN OF BELFAST
Please be advised County Road 26 from County Road 16 to Van Allen Road will be closed from approximately 7 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. August 5 and from Van Allen Road to Lilly Road daily from 7 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. on August 6, 7, and 8 to replace several culverts. There will not be an on-site detour and motorists are urged to seek alternate routes. Thank you for your cooperation.
Shapiro Administration Awards over $15 Million to Strengthen Rural Electric Grid and Prevent and Shorten Power Outages for Nearly 60,000 Pennsylvanians
The Pennsylvania Grid Resilience Grants Program provides funding to small electric distribution companies to improve the all-hazards resilience of the electric grid and prevent disruptive events
Over 57,000 Pennsylvanians in mainly rural counties will experience significant improvements in their electric grid resilience and reliability
Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has awarded more than $15 million in grants to electric distribution companies to improve electric grid reliability and resilience through the 2024 Pennsylvania Grid Resilience Grants (PA GRG) funding.
“The impacts of these targeted investments across the Commonwealth are clear; power outages will be prevented and outage time when they occur will be reduced,” said DEP Acting Secretary Jessica Shirley. “The PA GRG funding will result in a more resilient and reliable electric grid for Pennsylvanians while enabling the expansion of clean energy generation, energy sector job creation, and investments in environmental justice and underserved communities.”

Their Fall 2024 semester begins Wednesday, August 14th. Courses being offered include Introduction to Psychology, Music Appreciation, Introduction to Early Childhood Education, Accounting I, Business Technology, Business and Professional Communication, and many more. These courses are part of five associate degrees: Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Early Childhood Education, Liberal Studies, and Social Sciences. If you are not interested in pursuing an associate degree at this time, NPRC’s team will help you select courses or training that meets whatever goal you would like to achieve.
DCNR Announces First Round Of Improvements To Revitalize Denton Hill State Park In Potter County

Harrisburg, Pennsylvania — Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources State Parks Director John Hallas today announced the first phase of improvements to transform Denton Hill State Park into a four-season recreational destination in Potter County.
A first phase this summer will include the improvement of current hiking and biking trails; upgrading and opening traditional tent camping, recreational vehicle sites, and modern cabins; and reopening the iconic lodge as a venue for large events, including weddings.
“We are working with our partners, Denton Go, to reimagine Denton Hill and create a year-round destination for visitors from the Commonwealth and the Pennsylvania Wilds region,” Hallas said. “Our goal is to turn Denton Hill into a a premier destination for camping, events, and more as we implement a strategic plan and fully bring new ideas to life.”
Governor Josh Shapiro recently launched a new brand for the Commonwealth — Pennsylvania: The Great American Getaway — and pointed to Pennsylvania’s state park system as incredible destinations for a weekend getaway. State parks are great summer destinations for swimming, boating, camping, and other outdoor recreation opportunities.
Democrats Donate to Catholic Charities Food Pantry in Wellsville
Belmont, NY – The Allegany County Democrats collected multiple bags/boxes of non-perishable food and personal care items when they met recently in Wellsville. The collected goods were donated to the Catholic Charities Joyce Family Food Pantry. This service project is one of the ways the Democratic Committee lives its motto: “Serving our Community.”
The Final COTS for July
The final COTS for the month of July was held in the Educational Unit of the Gethsemane Lutheran Church.
This week’s concert is scheduled for the side lawn of St Gabriel’s Catholic Church, if the weather cooperates. The concert will feature RSVP with Joel Anderson.
Plans are in the works for the grand opening of the Port Allegany Town Square to be held at 5 p.m., August 22nd. The concert, sponsored by the PAWC will follow at 6 p.m. and feature the music of Randy Andreano. Details will be announced as they become available.
2024 Break the Chains Festival
The 2024 Break the Chains Festival was held Friday and Saturday in Coudersport.
The location was changed due to renovations at the Port Allegany Town Square. The BTC Coalition was grateful to the Coudersport Chamber of Commerce and the entire Coudersport community for welcoming the festival on such short notice.
The event featured inspirational speakers, music and entertainment as well as a Kid’s Corner with crafts and face painting. BTC is a non-profit organization whose focus is drug and alcohol addiction and self harm and suicide awareness and prevention.
The event also included food vendors and organizations with booths such as ADAS and Narcotics Anonymous who offered hope and help to those in need.

The Port Allegany High School Class of 1979 gathered at the VMI (Veterans Memorial, Inc.) for the 45th anniversary of their graduation. MC for the evening was Barry Bova.

Nine Receive Scholarships from Big 30 Athletic Fund
OLEAN, N.Y., July 29 – Nine local students recently received Big 30 scholarships, managed by the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation.
Established by the Big 30 Athletic Fund Committee, the Big 30 Athletic Fund at CRCF supports the organization’s effort to provide scholarship funding to deserving student athletes in the region served by the Big 30, including Allegany and Cattaraugus counties as well as areas of northwestern Pennsylvania.

Owlett Senior Expo, Shredding Event This Friday, Aug. 2
WELLSBORO – Rep. Clint Owlett (R-Tioga/Bradford) is reminding area senior citizens, their family members and caregivers of his upcoming Senior Expo this Friday, Aug. 2, from 9 a.m. to noon at Wellsboro Senior High School Gym and Commons, 225 Nichols St.
In conjunction with the expo, Owlett is also hosting a shredding event in the school’s parking lot to give area residents the opportunity to help protect themselves against identity theft by having documents with personal information securely shredded.
Inaugural Blueberry Festival at BRMC Was a Hit
Bradford, PA –The Bradford Hospital Auxiliary (BHA) hosted the inaugural Blueberry Festival at Bradford Regional Medical Center (BRMC), a Kaleida Health facility, on Friday, July 26. The event that was held in the main lobby of BRMC attracted around 300 community members with blueberry themed treats, prizes, and other raffles.
