* At 850 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Cross Fork,
moving southeast at 15 mph.

HAZARD…60 mph wind gusts and penny size hail.

Stay inside a well built structure and keep away from windows.

Continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this severe
thunderstorm. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature’s
leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close
enough to be struck by lightning.

Very heavy rainfall is occurring with this severe thunderstorm, and
may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.

…STRONG THUNDERSTORMS WILL IMPACT NORTHEASTERN POTTER AND WESTERN
TIOGA COUNTIES THROUGH 730 PM EDT…

At 633 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along
a line extending from 20 miles southeast of Wellsville to 29 miles
west of Wellsboro. Movement was east southeast at 20 mph.

HAZARD…Wind gusts up to 50 mph and pea size hail.

SOURCE…Radar indicated.

IMPACT…Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is
possible.

Locations impacted include…
Wellsboro, Elkland, Galeton, Westfield, Gaines, Keeneyville,
Leetonia, Harrison Valley, Leonard Harrison State Park, Denton Hill
State Park, Lyman Run State Park, Tioga, Knoxville, Ulysses, Osceola,
Tioga Junction, and Ski Denton Ski Area.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.

These storms may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio
stations and available television stations for additional information
and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.

Persons in campgrounds should consider seeking sturdy shelter until
these storms pass.

Herman E. Spong, age 89, of Wellsboro, PA, died on Monday, June 17, 2024. 

He was born on August 3, 1934 in Jersey Shore, PA, a son of the late Lawrence and Jeannette (Campbell) Spong and was the husband of the late Ellamae (Henry) Spong who passed away in 2011. 

Herman was retired from Dresser Manufacturing, Wellsboro, PA. 

In keeping with Herman’s wishes, there will not be any services.

BRADFORD, PA / OLEAN, NY – Bradford Regional Medical Center (BRMC) and Olean General Hospital (OGH) will be hosting community blood drives. Both blood drives are in collaboration with ConnectLife, the region’s only community blood bank.

Photos do not capture the significant damage to the bridge on Route 6 in Troy over Sugar Creek. But PennDOT has the experts on the job, from inspectors to engineers to contractors. I am thankful for the rapid response from PennDOT District 3 Executive Eric High and Secretary of Transportation Mike Carroll to get us the emergency declaration quickly so we can get to work ASAP.

Bradford County EMS, township supervisors, commissioners and community business leaders were on hand to hear the secretary’s press conference today. Be watching for the published news on details about the work and funding for this unexpected bridge work.

Cameron County Chamber of Commerce hosted its 17^th annual golf tournament with 13 teams participating and raising funds for chamber-related projects including the upcoming fireworks.  The team taking home bragging rights in the gross division was Gary Solak, Scott Haman Rob Burkhouse and Ken Burkhouse.  Second place went to the team sponsored by Embassy Powdered Metals and included Randy Cooney, Harry Jones, Joe Clingan and Rick Kahnell.  Third place went to the team of Larry Grimone, Jack Dillon, Steve McFerren and Rich Stuart.  Net winners included both teams sponsored by Crown Realty.  First place was Anne and Randy Horning along with Ed and Sandy Stuart.  Second place went to the team of Ron and Sharon Daniels along with Barb Close and Mary Jo Kahnell.  Third place went to the second team sponsored by Crown Realty of Matt and Barb Grimone, Ralph Grovanz and Nate Ball. 

Following the tournament, individuals were awarded skill prizes and enjoyed a dinner of chicken parmesan.  Each year the Cameron County Chamber of Commerce hosts a tournament on the second Thursday in June at the Emporium Country Club.

Beloved elementary school guidance counselor, Beth Scanlon, was celebrated at a surprise reception held at PAES.  During her time with the Port Allegany School District,  Mrs. Scanlon also served as a basketball coach, organized Red Ribbon Skits and played a part in the Veterans Day Celebrations.  Mrs. Scanlon was the guest of honor at a retirement party hosted by PAES.  She is pictured here with PAES retirees Michael Nasto, Cheryl Nasto, Terry Kriner and elementary principal, Tracy Kio, who is also retiring at the end of the school year.
