Mary Ann Schlimm, 90, of Chestnut Street, St. Marys
Mary Ann Schlimm, 90, of Chestnut Street, St. Marys, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law.
She was born on July 24, 1934 in St. Marys, a daughter of the late John and Gertrude Feldbauer Hupfer.
On May 4, 1957, in Queen of the World Church, she married the late Paul G. Schlimm, who preceded her in death on March 20, 1997. Together they were blessed with nearly 40 years of marriage.
Nettie B. Treat, Age 85 of Westfield
Nettie B. Treat, age 85 of Westfield passed away at her daughter’s home in Elkland surrounded by her loving family on Monday, October 28, 2024.
Born August 24, 1939 in Elmira, NY, she was the daughter of the late Ernest W. and Hattie Mae (Adams) Tillotson. She married Lloyd S. “Bucky” Treat on March 12, 1960 in Little Marsh, together they shared 57 years until his passing on December 1, 2017.

Bridge Inspection Next Week on Interstate 180 in Lycoming County
Motorists are advised that there will be lane restrictions next week on Interstate 180 in both directions in Loyalsock Township and Montoursville Borough, Lycoming County, for bridge inspections.
On Tuesday, November 5, 2024, a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) bridge inspection crew will be performing an inspection of the bridge carrying I-180 eastbound over the Loyalsock Creek. Motorists can expect alternating lane restrictions 2 miles west of Exit 21 (Route 87 / Montoursville) in Montoursville Borough.
On Wednesday, November 6, 2024, the crew will be inspecting the bridge carrying I-180 westbound over the Loyalsock Creek. Motorists can expect alternating lane restrictions east of Exit 23 A / B (Warrensville Road / Third Street) in Loyalsock Township.
Work will be performed between the hours of 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM on both days. Motorists should be alert, slow down, expect delays in travel and drive with caution.

Penn College wrestlers feature ‘grit, toughness, funk’
With a roster that returns three top-eight regional finishers from last season’s squad and a NCAA Division III national qualifier from two seasons ago, first-year coach Pennsylvania College of Technology wrestling head coach Dalton Rohrbaugh has plenty of reason for optimism.
“Overall, I am extremely excited for this team to compete. I think we will turn heads and show we can compete with the best of the best,” Rohrbaugh said. “We have some great wrestlers, no doubt, but we will also win matches we ‘aren’t supposed to’ on paper because of the grit, toughness and conditioning we will bring to competition.
“These guys are doing things the right way on and off the mat and not complaining about a single thing, picking each other up when it gets tough and being the true definition of a team. Staying healthy will be a key point, but if we can do that, then the sky is the limit.”
The Wildcats open their season on Friday and Saturday at the Ithaca College Bombers Invitational, where they finished sixth in a 12-team field last season.

Harrisburg, Penn — If you haven’t applied for federal disaster assistance from FEMA, time is running out.
The deadline for applications is November 12. If you live in Lycoming, Potter, Tioga or Union County and suffered loss of personal property or damage to your home due to Tropical Storm Debby on Aug. 9 -10, 2024, you should apply as soon as possible.
There are four ways to apply. You can:

Port Allegany Rotary Club Welcomes PAHS Seniors
The Port Allegany Rotary Club began welcoming members of the Class of 2025 to their weekly meetings held Thursdays at the Port Allegany Moose Lodge. The first visitors from PAHS were Thomas Beeson and Devan Carpenter. Thomas is the son of Jennifer and Michael Beeson. His siblings are Caleb Dougherty, Kristopher, Kelsey and Savannah Beeson. His school activities include computer science, Drama Club and Yearbook. He is a member of the Alliance Church Youth Group, Ignite. After graduation, Thomas plans to attend Harden Simons University in Texas and major in Computer Science.
Devan is the daughter of Dan and Vanna Carpenter. She has three sisters – older sister, Hannah and younger twin sisters, Taylor and Shaylee. At PAHS, Devan is a member of the Yearbook Staff and the Marching Band. She is a student at the Seneca Highlands Career and Technical Center in the Automotive Shop. She is a member of the Student Committee and the Safety Committee. After graduation, Devn plans to join the Army. She is hoping to continue in the automotive field and get her CDL. Introducing the seniors to the club were Rotarians Charlie Cox and Anna Fair.

Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral that is often found near talc, an ingredient in many cosmetic products. Asbestos, however, is a known carcinogen and its health risks are well-documented. If talc mining sites are not carefully chosen or if proper steps are not taken to adequately purify the talc ore, it may contain asbestos. The product was sent to distributors on or after January 18, 2024, by direct delivery in the following states: AL, AR, AZ, CA, CO, DE, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, KY, LA, MA, MD, MN, MO, MS, MT, NC, NE, NJ, NM, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, TN, TX, UT, VA, VT, WA, WI and sold online on Amazon (Amazon.com).Both the 4875 and 4874 Baby Powder products are packaged in plastic bottles, 24 bottles to a case for the 14 oz. and 48 to a case for the 4 oz., with lot/batch numbers located on the bottom of the bottle and on each case (see images below). Port Allegany Lions Club presented A Grisly History of Port Allegany
The Port Allegany Lions Club presented A Grisly History of Port Allegany – a walking tour including the first murder in the borough of Port Allegany, the curious tale of Uzza Robbins and an unsolved murder mystery. The tours were held between 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and began on the Town Square and covered about five blocks. Ending the tour was a presentation by the historical society at Union Cemetery.
Refreshments were served following the cemetery presentation at The Inn On Maple Street. Pictured: Mayor George Riley, who led one of the walking tours, is pictured with PAHS students Connor Valentine, Thomas Beeson and Chloe Triplett who assisted with the presentation at Union Cemetery. The walks had 87 people participate and the proceeds of the event went to the Canoe Place Historical Society.

Millerton Fire Dept. Assisted Lawrenceville Fire With Garage fire
Millerton FD was dispatched to Lawrence twp. for a garage fire Sunday 1652 hrs. Engine 12-2 Tanker 12-5 ladder 12-9 Rescue 12-18 responded. Millerton units responded quickly. Millerton members helped work the fire and water supply. Millerton fire department is always glad to be able to support Lawrenceville FD .

Penn College sports update
Four Penn College teams set for UE postseason
Four Pennsylvania College of Technology fall sports teams will step into United East Conference postseason action this week while the wrestling team opens its season.
- The men’s soccer team, which posted its first 10-win season since 2013, is seeded sixth going into its home first-round playoff match against 11th-seeded Keystone College on Wednesday. The winner will face third-seeded Cairn University on Saturday in a quarterfinal.
- The multi-record-breaking women’s soccer team, which completed the first undefeated regular season in program history, drew a bye into Saturday’s quarterfinals as the second seed and will host the winner of Tuesday’s first-round match between Wilson and Cedar Crest colleges.
- The men’s and women’s cross-country teams will run in the conference championships hosted by St. Mary’s (Md.) College on Saturday, where the men’s squad will defend its title.
In addition, the wrestlers, under new head coach Dalton Rohrbaugh, open on Friday and Saturday at the Ithaca College Bombers Invitational.

Owl Banding at Sizerville State Park
Certified bird bander of 30+ years, David Hauber, his wife, Fay, and his son, Alan, came to Sizerville on Saturday evening hoping to band a Northern Saw-whet Owl. The program started off with a Pennsylvania Owls presentation by park educator, Alyson Rotello, followed by her taking small groups of participants down to the banding area to see the net set up.
Around 9 PM, a female Saw-whet Owl was caught! David and Fay recorded data from the owl including her weight, wing chord length, eye color, age, and gender to assist with research. The owl was then banded and released back into the park.
This program is open to all ages and was attended by 45 participants. This family friendly opportunity will be offered annually during October at Sizerville State Park. Hope to see you there next year!
Two Arrested For Theft
On 10/01/2024 at 3202 hours BCPD officers received a report of a stolen vehicle from Avenue B in the City of Bradford. Officers arrived on scene and spoke with the reporting party who stated that his truck was stolen and he had both sets of keys. Approximately 2 hours later officers received a phone call from the Cattaraugus County 911 Center who had stated that the New York State Police had located the stolen vehicle and that it was currently on fire on the Olean-Portville Road in Portville, New York. Officers worked with NYSP and Olean Police to identify the persons within the truck from video surveillance.
Through the investigation, BCPD Officers were able to identify those responsible for the theft of the truck, a known male juvenile operator of the truck, along with two co-conspirator passengers, Brandon J. McKinney of Bradford, PA and Kyle L. Nortum of Olean, NY. On 10/14/2024 NYSP arrested Nortum on an arrest warrant and he was remanded to Catt County Jail, awaiting extradition back to PA.

Unable to post bail, Brandon was remanded to the McKean County Jail.
