Treble Choir Spring Concert Highlights Spirituals
The Hamilton-Gibson Treble Choir returns from their Spring Tour to offer a concert highlighting spirituals on Sunday, May 19 at 2:30pm at the First Presbyterian Church in Wellsboro.
This past weekend the HG Treble Choir, grades 5-8, toured through Maryland’s Eastern Shore performing at various sites and learning about our neighbors to the south, and their environment, culture and history. In preparation for the trip, the kids were introduced to Harriet Tubman and her underground railroad by watching a documentary about her life. They also learned music from this time in our history and about the importance of spirituals in the lives of American slaves. The group drove along the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Scenic Byway, and visited the Harriet Tubman Museum and Education Center.

Donations requested to support free & low cost swimming lessons for kids
Residents of Potter County have been generous with donations to provide access to over 400 free swim lessons to the children in the county over the past 3 years. The individual swim lesson fee is $45 per child. While this is a reasonable price, some families with children may not be able to afford this fee. So we are requesting donations to ensure swim lessons this summer remain free or low cost for everyone.
It is our hope that you will consider donating to this local cause. Your generosity can help teach a child to swim and potentially save lives. Coudersport has the only public pool in Potter County able to provide this service. Swim season begins soon and we respectfully ask for your help to keep lessons free or low cost.
Many thanks from Friends of the Coudersport Pool

A Decade of Hope at Olean Food Pantry
By David Potter
Board President, Olean Food Pantry
(Editor’s note: This is the first in a four-part series by the Olean Food Pantry about solving food insecurity in our communities.)
Last summer, our Board of Directors began some serious discussion around fundraising and community impact. A nonprofit’s vision should be a world in which it doesn’t have to exist. That’s a world where the problem is solved.
In our case, that would mean a world where the Olean Food Pantry wouldn’t need to exist. That’s a world – or at least the Western New York counties we serve – without food insecurity.
A lofty goal.

A separate Facebook page has been created so that people can see where the sales are planned and what items may be offered for sale. The page is named Cameron County Town Wide Yard Sales.
2024-25 MIGRATORY GAME BIRD SEASONS SET
Pennsylvania’s 2024-25 migratory game bird seasons have been set.
Annual migratory game bird seasons are selected by states from frameworks established by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS). Game Commission selections were made after reviewing last year’s hunter harvests, population survey data and public input.
There is one significant change to Pennsylvania waterfowl seasons this year, said Game Commission Waterfowl Biologist Amanda Hoyt. The regular season length for Canada geese in the Atlantic Population Zone has decreased from 45 to 30 days but the daily bag limit remains three.
“With the population recently falling just below the threshold for a “liberal” season, the harvest strategy mandates a shorter hunting season for this population,” said Hoyt.
