Sheetz is closing its doors in Emporium on September 29. Sheetz district manager notified the Cameron County Chamber of Commerce of the decision the same day employees were told of the closing. Immediately the chamber, Emporium Borough and Cameron County Commissioners began contacting the corporate office. Following two days of discussions it became clear that Sheetz is not interested in staying in the county. Company officials cited a fueling system that must be replaced and the current location which prevents expansion.
The property is owned by Sheetz and the site selector, Allen Stevens, says the fuel tanks will be removed, and the building and land will be offered for sale.
