McKean County Jail LPN

McKean County is seeking a qualified and highly motivated applicant to perform the duties of a full-time Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at the County Jail.

Primary responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

1. Conduct patient assessments, perform physicals, order medications, and provide healthcare as required for all inmates at the County Jail.
2. Conduct blood draws, urine samples, pregnancy testing, and strep testing as necessary.
3. Maintain an accurate filing system to ensure consistency and accuracy of treatment programs and the reports prepared for the physician.
4. Train inmates and staff on health issues, such as medication dispensation and what to look for in each inmate’s condition.
5. Work independently, as well as under direction; make critical decisions, often in stressful situations.
6. Assure accurate filing systems and compliance with record keeping requirements.
7. Serve on-call 24 hours a day, seven days a week as needed.
8. At times must fill in for Mental Health provider, giving guidance and counseling to inmates.
9. Assist in managing and tracking the inmate prescription process to ensure appropriate care and eliminate the chances of medications abuse.
10. Identify and develop patient care planning and monitor the plan.
11. Schedule medical testing with the County Physician and/or hospital personnel.
12. Conduct research for inmate medical records.
13. Take physician orders and transcribe them.
14. Assist with other such duties as may be assigned for the successful operation of the department.

Requirements for Candidates:

• Minimum requirement as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
• One-year experience with adults in a treatment setting.

The public is invited to attend a SENIOR EXPO AND POTTER COUNTY SENIOR CENTER’S COUNTY WIDE GET-TOGETHER to be held at the Coudersport Arboretum located at 201 S West Street, Coudersport, on Monday, July 21st from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. In the event of rain, the event will be held in the Gunzburger  County Office Building gymnasium located at 1 North Main Street. Enter at the rear of the building.  The SENIOR EXPO is sponsored by the Coudersport Arboretum Association and in collaboration with Potter County Human Services Area Agency on Aging.

The Potter County Senior Center’s County Wide Get-together will again join the Senior Expo. Participants from the Coudersport, Galeton, Ulysses and Oswayo Valley Senior Centers will attend to visit the vendor displays, enjoy morning refreshments, a hot dog lunch and participate in games and activities. Bingo will be held from 11 a.m. until noon. Live Music will be from noon – 2 p.m.

The 83rd Annual Pennsylvania State Laurel Festival with activities for all ages gets underway this Saturday, June 14 and continues through Sunday, June 22 in Wellsboro. 

Kicking off the festival on Saturday, June 14 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. rain or shine is Family Day and the Children’s Health Fair on The Green. There will be 45 booths with information, activities, such as games to play for prizes, an obstacle course, creative projects to do on-site and take home, such as cow crafts, planting seeds, and making sun bead key chains, suncatchers, window clings and sun visors, and giveaways, like assorted toys, reflective zipper pulls, reusable bags, stickers, etc.  Each youngster participating in Family Day will be given a free playground ball or an 18-inch super flying disc to take home. Infants to 12-year-olds will be fitted with free bike helmets while supplies last.

Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

East Trading Corp. of Bronx, NY is recalling Salted Smoked Split Herring because the product was found to be over 5″ in length and uneviscerated, as such having potential to be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium which can cause life-threatening illness or death. Consumers are warned not to use the product even if it does not look or smell spoiled.

Hofood99 Inc of Brooklyn, NY 11231 is recalling its 200g packages of Enoki Mushroom, because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy persons may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

The recalled Enoki Mushrooms were distributed nationwide in retail stores. The product comes in a 200g, green plastic package marked with UPC Barcode 6 976532 310051 on the back label, distributed by Hofood99 Inc., 21903 56^th Ave Oakland Gardens, NY 11364.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

OLEAN, N.Y., June 11 – 11 local nonprofit organizations have received grants at varying amounts from the Community Fund at the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation.

The Community Fund is an unrestricted fund that supports grants responsive to the community’s changing needs. Proposals are assessed by a committee of trusted professionals and active community volunteers on organization strength, community need or opportunity, feasibility and community impact.

The Community Fund has allocated over $260,000 in grants to the nonprofit organizations serving the greater Cattaraugus region since the fund was established in 2004.

Thirty-two shooters from the Black Forest Falcons Youth Trap Team traveled to Elysburg, PA this weekend to participate in the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) and Amateur Trap Association/AIM (ATA/AIM) State Championships.  The Falcons shot against over 400 of the best shooters from around the state and landed on the podium in several categories:

The 2025 Laurel Concert Series offers five shows that will appeal to a wide range of musical tastes. The concerts are free and open to the public. Donations to support them appreciated.

House of Sterling, the Wellsboro-based folk-Americana duo of Molly Cary and Joe Callahan, opens the series at 7 p.m. Monday, June 16 on the Deane Center’s outdoor stage at 104 Main Street in Wellsboro. Cary and Callahan will play their guitars and sing their own originals and some unexpected covers. Their diverse sound is a modern twist on the harmony-centric approach taken by The Everly Brothers and Simon & Garfunkel with a nod to the old-time bluegrass tradition for which Wellsboro and the greater Tioga County area are known.

Legislation that would fully repeal Pennsylvania’s Sunday hunting ban passed the state House of Representatives today and now heads to the Senate for consideration.

Introduced by Rep. Mandy Steele, D-Allegheny, House Bill 1431 was approved by the House Game and Fisheries Committee June 3 and sent to the Senate today by a vote of 131-72.

This bill is identical to Senate Bill 67, introduced in March by Sen. Dan Laughlin, R-Erie. The Game Commission supports both bills, either of which would end the state’s prohibition on Sunday hunting and allow the Game Commission to include Sundays when establishing hunting seasons annually.
