John D Benson Obituary
Port Allegany–John Daniel “Jack” Benson, Sr., passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, in Sena Kean Manor. Jack was born on November 11, 1942, in Buffalo, New York, the son of John J. and May I. Venator Benson. Jack grew up on a farm in Turtlepoint, Pennsylvania, and often had to walk the five miles between the farm and school in Port Allegany, uphill both ways in waste deep snow. In his senior year of high school, Jack was President of the Senior Class, Captain of the Football Team, and President of the Future Farmers of America. Jack graduated from Port Allegany High School in 1962 and attended Alfred Technical College.
On October 9, 1965, Jack married the former Connie Baker at the United Brethren Church in Port Allegany, Pennsylvania, and they were married for 60 years. Jack and Connie had 2 children, John D. Benson, Jr. (Susan) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Amy Benson Murphy (Tom) of Port Allegany, Pennsylvania. Jack had 3 grandchildren, Caleb (Sarah) Benson, Sam Benson, and Marcus Murphy, and 2 great-grandchildren, Sophia Benson and Kinskey (aka Kinsley) Benson.
In addition to his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Jack is survived by his sisters JoAnn Ellis of Allegany, New York, Mary Ann Miller of Port Allegany, Pennsylvania, Noreen (Reginald) Coneys of Port Allegany, Pennsylvania, and his brothers Daniel Benson of Warren, Pennsylvania and Richard (Linda) Benson of Turtlepoint, Pennsylvania, numerous nieces and nephews and countless friends. Jack was predeceased by his parents, his sister Carol Howard, his in-laws Bernard and Helen Baker, his daughter-in-law Susan Sygenda Benson, and his brothers-in-law Joseph Ellis, Gib Miller, Kenny Howard, Bob Baker, and Bill Baker.
Jack was a parishioner at St. Joseph’s Episcopal Church in Port Allegany. He worked for North Penn Gas Company for over 35 years, was a Boy Scout Troop Leader, 4-H Club Leader, host of weekend long high school class reunions and friend, confidant, and mentor to many. Jack was a devoted fan of the Buffalo Bills, and his eternal regret was never getting to see the Bills win a Super Bowl. Jack knew how to have a good time and how to bring joy to others. Among his favorite activities were sitting on the front porch with a cold beer, waving at people driving by, and going to the Park with his best friend, Malon Postlewait, to “feed the squirrels.”
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
There will be no visitation. A funeral at St. Joseph’s and an appropriate (for the Benson family) celebration of life will be held on a date to be announced.

Keeping OGH Shining, July Star Award Recognized
OLEAN, NY – Olean General Hospital (OGH), Kaleida Health facility, is proud to announce the winner of the 2026 July Star Award. This month’s recipient was Jordan Fletcher, an environmental service aide. Fletcher has been with OGH since June 2025.
“Jordan consistently keeps patient rooms and the nursing station clean. Patients often comment on how professional he is. He does an exceptional job, is very thorough and takes great pride in his work. Jordan is always polite, pleasant and a joy to work with,” said his nomination.
The Star Award is presented monthly to an employee who demonstrates outstanding performance and inspires the same in others. Staff members are nominated for exceptional customer satisfaction, continuous performance improvement, teamwork, communication, ownership/accountability and excellence through co-worker or patient nominations.
The following were also nominated for Star Awards: Jocelyn Huselstein, RN, emergency department; Tina Ramire, RN, case management; and Michelle Young, RN, obstetrics.

Community Partnerships Help Keep Free Lunches Available for Local Children and Teens
Sometimes the greatest acts of kindness begin with something simple—someone recognizing a need and deciding to help.
This summer, Leroy and Julia Kopp recognized a need to help children and teens while school was out. Through New Horizons Food/Fitness Center in St. Marys, they launched the Free Lunches for Kids & Teens initiative, providing free grab-and-go lunch bags throughout the summer. What began as one act of kindness quickly grew into a community-wide effort as individuals, businesses, organizations, and volunteers stepped forward with donations of food, supplies, and financial support.
Michael D. Colley, 85, of Bradford
Michael D. Colley, 85, of Bradford, passed away Thursday, July 9, 2026, at The Pavilion at BRMC.
Michael was born in Bradford on May 3, 1941, he was a son of the late Patrick and Elizabeth (Barber) Colley. He attended Otto Eldred schools.
On June 17, 1978, in Bradford, he married Doris F. “Dot” (Franklin) Colley who preceded him in death on July 12, 2018.
Mike worked at W.R. Case Cutlery and Son’s for 50 years as an Assembly Supervisor and Fire Safety Coordinator.
He was a member of Faith Baptist Church, above all else, he cherished his family and found his greatest joy in spending time with those he loved. He took great pride in caring for his home, whether it was meticulously detailing his cars until they looked showroom-ready or maintaining a lawn that reflected his dedication and attention to detail. His strong work ethic, pride in a job well done, and willingness to help others will be remembered by all who knew him.
Surviving are five daughters, Deb (Dale) Yohe, of Bradford, Linda (Stephen) Frederick, of Bradford, Jackie (Roger) Ellison, of Jacksboro TN, Lori (Dan) Lindquist, of Norristown, and Jody Lee, of Port Allegany, two sons, Steve (Laura) Hixenbaugh, of Lewis Run and Jason Colley, of Bradford, two sisters, Sally Johnson, of Portville NY, and Candice (Gary) Joy, of Bradford, one brother, Anthony Colley, of NC, 22 grandchildren, Stacey (Paul) Black, Dale M. (Bambi) Yohe, Christopher Yohe, Stephanie Martuccio, Shannon (Jason) Mendell, Shaylyn Wilson, Heather Hixenbaugh, Crystal (Adam) Spencer, Deb Priestine, Josh (Amber) Hixenbaugh, Jennifer (Chuck) Edminster, Amy (Jason) Myers, Tammy (Mark) Sheeley, Ryan (Brooke) Ellison, Justin (Tristan) Ellison, Lee (Lacy) Ellison, Tiffany Lindquist, John (Katie) Lindquist, Becky Lindquist, Zachary Lee Colley, Hannah Lee Colley, and Mikey (Kasey) Colley, 30 great grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter, Lillian Rhoades, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Dot, and one brother, George W. Colley Sr.
Family will receive friends on Monday July 13, 2026, from 11 AM to 1 PM at the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc. 33 South Ave., followed by funeral services with Rev. Gary Smith, Pastor of the Faith Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Willow Dale Cemetery.

(MCKEAN COUNTY, Pennsylvania: July 9, 2026): District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer reports on the arrest of a Bradford woman for drug crimes. Suzette MUSOLINO was arrested by the McKean County Drug Task Force for delivering methamphetamine. MUSOLINO is charged with Delivery of a Controlled Substance (felony); 2 counts of Conspiracy to Deliver a Controlled Substance (felony); Criminal Use of a Communication Facility (felony 3); and Possession of a Controlled Substance (misdemeanor). MUSOLINO was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Richard Luther who set bail at $150,000 straight. MUSOLINO was remanded to the McKean County Jail. She was scheduled for central court.
