The Potter County Education Council, Tri-Co Connections, the Potter County Human Services Area Agency on Aging, and our local school districts are continuing to team up to implement a county-wide program called Seniors 2 Seniors.

This program is teaching basic computer skills, digital literacy, and cybersecurity to senior citizens so that they have the skills and knowledge to utilize the many benefits of high-speed Internet, which can include: Staying connected to friends and family; Sending and receiving emails; Using search engines to navigate the Internet; Utilizing telemedicine (healthcare from home); Using on-line banking; and Shopping from home (for items not available in the local area).

As a part of this program, local high school students volunteer to provide on-site support to each of the adults who participate in the course. The area high school students are a logical resource to support the senior citizens as they learn about the Internet since this generation of students has grown up with technology as a part of their daily lives. They are a true “tech savvy” population and can provide valuable support to older adults who are learning to navigate and use new technological skills and information.

The Seniors 2 Seniors technology course is being offered at each of the four senior centers in Potter County on a six-week rotating schedule, meeting on Wednesdays (following the school districts’ calendars), throughout the 2023-2024 school year.

The course will meet at the Shinglehouse Center on Wednesdays, September 13^th – October 18^th from 12:45 – 2:15 p.m. The course is tentatively scheduled to meet at the Coudersport Senior Center on Wednesdays, October 25^th – December 6^th. (The course will not meet on November 22^nd.)

The registration deadline for the Shinglehouse course is Wednesday, September 6^th. Register yourself, a parent, or grandparent by calling the Potter County Education Council at (814) 274-4877 or by stopping by the Education Council’s Coudersport office at 5 Water Street. 

PUBLIC NOTICE

Notice is hereby given that the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) will extend the public comment period for the Roulette Oil & Gas Company, LLC (ROGC), application to convert the Clara Field #20 gas well into an oil and gas waste disposal well (solely for ROGC conventional well waste) in Clara Township, Potter County. Persons can submit a written statement to the DEP by close of business on Thursday, September 7, 2023. 

Written statements should be sent via the U.S. Postal Service to Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, Northwest Oil and Gas District, 230 Chestnut Street, Meadville, PA 16335, or emailed to

 RA EPOILGASDROPBOX@pa.gov.

Each written statement must contain the name, address, and telephone number of the person submitting the comments, identification of the permit application (Clara Field #20), and a concise statement of the objections to the permit application and the relevant facts upon which the objections are based.

REGULAR MEETING. AUGUST 1, 2023

The Galeton Borough Authority held its regular meeting this date in the Municipal building with the following members present: Tony Adami, George Bowen and Tom Smith. Not present were Joe Cimino and Mike Brown.

Others present were Engineer Tim Tritch on Phone and the Authority Secretary-Andrea Caracciolo

A motion was made by George, Bowen, Seconded by Tom Smith approving the 6/6/23 minutes as presented. All were in favor, motion carried.

Tim Tritch reported that the PennVest Application for the WWTP Phase III technical grant will be submitted the following day.

The Mill St. bridge project water and sewer final designs are completed and all permits are filed. Just waiting on the project to be put out for bid. The project won’t be done until next year.

A motion was made by George Bowen, seconded by Tom Smith adopting Resolution 3-2023 the filing of the PennVest Application. All were in favor, motion carried.

The secretary also presented the Letter of Responsibility to be signed and approved to be filed with the PennVest application. The Authority approved and Tony signed the letter.

A motion was made by George Bowen, seconded by Tom Smith approving Pay Request #3 for the Watrous Interconnection Grant. Eichelberger’s – $36,645.00 and John Yilek – $7,750.00. All were in favor, motion carried.

A motion was made by Tom Smith, seconded by George Bowen to adjourn. All were in favor, motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 5:35 PM. The next meeting will be October 3, 2023 at 5:00 PM.

Governor Shapiro Orders US, Commonwealth Flags to Half-Staff in McKean County in Honor of Bradford Township Police Department Lieutenant Jeff Shade

Today, in accordance with the United States Flag Code, Governor Josh Shapiro ordered the United States and Commonwealth flags on all Commonwealth facilities, public buildings, and grounds in McKean County to immediately fly at half-staff in honor of Bradford Township Police Department Lieutenant Jeff Shade, who died in the line of duty on August 4, 2023.

The flags shall be lowered to half-staff until the date of interment, which has not yet been announced.

All Pennsylvanians are invited to participate in this tribute.

August 8, 2023 / SEATTLE, WA – >David Oppenheimer and Company I LLC is voluntarily recalling from the market all one-pound clamshells of organic green kiwifruit described below because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

The organic green kiwifruit subject to the voluntary recall was shipped between June 14, 2023 and July 7, 2023, and sold in clamshells at retail locations in FL, GA, IL, IN, KY, MI, NC, NY, OH, PA, TN, TX, VA, and WI
