Rita Marie Simchick, 84, of 141 East Avenue, Johnsonburg, PA passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side at home on Monday evening, August 7, 2023 following a brief illness.

She was born in St. Marys on April 16, 1939, a daughter to the late George and Mary Margaret Seifert Schinabeck. On October 27, 1962 in Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg she married Edward R. Simchick. He preceded her in death on June 23, 2005. 

A lifelong resident of Johnsonburg, Rita was a 1958 graduate of Johnsonburg High School. She was a member of Holy Rosary Church where she had been a member of the adult choir and the adult prayer group.

She had also been a member of the Johnsonburg American Legion Post 501 and the Prince of Piedmont Club.

She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandsons and her Chihuahua Lucky. She was an avid lottery scratcher and loved to do home canning, embroidery and work on crossword puzzles.

Rita was a homemaker for most of her life, although she had worked at Stackpole in Johnsonburg for 4 years. 

She is survived by a son David Simchick of Farmville, VA and a daughter Mary Rita, Mrs. Louis Kilhoffer, Jr. of Ridgway and grandchildren Scott M. Zimmerman and Mark M. Zimmerman both of Johnsonburg and Kara Kilhoffer of Johnsonburg and Brenton Kilhoffer of Ridgway. She is also survived by a brother Thomas “Sarge” Schinabeck and companion Theresa Redd of Farmville, VA, a sister-in-law Priscilla Schinabeck and several nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her parents and husband, Rita is predeceased by brothers Edward G. and Robert M. Schinabeck and a sister Josephine in infancy.

Funeral services and visitation for Rita M. Simchick will private and at the convenience of the family. Interment will be private in Holy Rosary Cemetery.
