Susann Louise Hughes, 72, of Wellsboro, formerly of West Lawn

Susann Louise Hughes, 72, of Wellsboro, formerly of West Lawn, passed away on Wednesday April 30, 2025, peacefully at her residence with her husband by her side. Sue was born on April 6, 1953, in Reading, the daughter of the late Kenneth and Florence (Kazmirczak) Hollenshead. She married Colin W. Hughes on July 10, 1976, and has celebrated 48+ years of marriage.
Sue attended Catholic Elementary School and graduated from Wilson High School, West Lawn, class of 1971. She volunteered at the Reading Hospital as a “candy striper” and the local library, helping to develop her start for a career in medical technology and her love for reading. Sue earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology from Mansfield State College, Class of 1976. She worked as a Medical Technologist at the following locations: Wilmington Medical Center, Wilmington, DE; American Red Cross Blood Center, Wilkes-Barre; Mercy Hospital, Scranton; and Easton Hospital, Easton. After retiring from hospital work, Sue worked with her husband, Colin, in his fund-raising business.
Sue was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Wellsboro. She enjoyed riding her bicycle, golfing, listening to many types of music, gardening, calligraphy and walking in the woods and kicking leaves. Marching bands, snowy walks, clothes that fit like a uniform, trumpet music, wind in her face, and sailing with her husband were all a vital part of Sue’s life. Early in her life Sue developed a love for marching and being a part of marching organizations. She participated as a rifle/drill team member from jr. high throughout college and then as an instructor while Colin was a marching band director. She was a member of the Philadelphia Eagles half time marching band in the mid 1960’s.
Sue has always been a sweet, caring, kind person who loved spending time with her friends and family. She was a very classy dresser and always carried herself with confidence and style. Sue was known for her smile, her great sense of humor, joy filled laugh and her willingness to help. She was also an empathetic listener, very gracious hostess, excellent decorator and she loved her cats. Sue loved people.
In addition to her husband, Colin, Sue is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Sue was preceded in death by her parents and her sister: Barbara (Hollenshead) Schnader.
Family and friends may call Thursday, May 8, 2025, from 6-8pm at the Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home, 139 Main St., Wellsboro. A mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, May 9, 2025,10AM at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 38 Central Ave., Wellsboro. A private burial in St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery will be held at a later date. The family suggests memorial contributions in Sue’s name be made to a charity of your choosing to help towards the betterment of a person’s living condition.
