Rick Holmes (Fredrick L. Holmes, Jr), 73, of Kane, PA, Daytona Beach, FL, and Ione, WA passed away on Sunday (July 7) at UPMC Erie. He was full of life, made friends easily, and animals loved him (and he them). Rick was self employed for much of his life; first as a logger (primarily in Washington) and in later years he managed his oil and gas royalty company.

Rick loved to travel and he not only enjoyed frequent trips to visit friends and family, but also to experience new areas of the world. Highlights include visiting Australia with his niece and many trips to Europe with Barb Neumayer, Brandy Krause, and John Kidd.

A proud alumnus of Penn State (1973), Rick’s enthusiasm for Nittany Lions football was steadfast. He was a member of Kane High School class of 1969, as well as a member of the Kane Elks, Eagles, and Moose clubs.

Rick is survived by his sister, Brandy Holmes Krause; his longtime girlfriend, Barbara Ann Neumayer; his niece, Wendy Krause; his grand-niece, Mei Krause, and his donated organs. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nita and Lyle Holmes, and his cherished canine companions, Dizzy and Digger, along with the many other pets who brightened his days.

In honor of Rick, we invite you to raise a glass and share a fond memory or story. Let us toast to a life well-lived and a man well-loved.
