Grassroots “Presence and Service” Initiative Turns Saturday Recycling Donations into Vital Support for Local Families

GALETON, Pa. — July 6, 2026 — In a demonstration of grassroots community support and active civic engagement, Potter County Democratic Committee Chair Brent Bryant presented a $200 check to Galeton Food Bank Coordinator Joanne Benjamin on Friday, July 3. The financial contribution represents the very first donation generated entirely by community members visiting the Potter County Recycling Center on Saturdays.

The contribution arrives at a critical time for local assistance programs. The Galeton Food Bank currently provides essential food boxes to between 88 and 105 families each month, relying heavily on local partnerships and neighborly generosity to meet the consistent demand.

“This contribution shows how small, everyday actions can lead to multiple wins for our community,” said Brent. “Through our core commitment to presence and service, we are turning weekly recycling routines into direct, tangible support for our neighbors. Every single person who drops off a donation on Saturday is helping put food on the table for local families.”

The ongoing initiative at the Potter County Recycling Center encourages residents to combine environmental stewardship with local philanthropy. Monetary donations collected during Saturday recycling hours are earmarked to support food banks within Potter County.
