PFBC Celebrates 150th Anniversary of Corry State Fish Hatchery, Erie County

Corry, PA (October 15) – Quite the milestone for the Corry State Fish Hatchery in Erie County today, as the facility celebrated its 150th anniversary. The hatchery was founded in 1876 as the ‘Western Hatchery’ and is the oldest continuously operating hatchery in the Fish and Boat Commission’s hatchery system. Staff at the Corry hatchery raise more than 330 thousand Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout, and Golden Rainbow Trout each year, accounting for about ten-percent of the state’s stocked trout. The occasion was marked by a walking tour and proclamations from Governor Josh Shapiro and the state Senate and House of Representatives. The Corry State fish hatchery operates 365 days a year, even on holidays, and is open daily from 8 am to 3 pm for public tours.
