PennDOT McKean County Maintenance Work Schedule for the Week of May 26
Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced the following schedule of maintenance activities in McKean County the week of May 26. PennDOT performs year-round maintenance in its mission to provide a safe, efficient transportation system, and while crews will be off Monday to observe the Memorial Day Holiday, the scope of work in McKean County for the coming week is as follows:
Manual Patching
- Route 6 between Route 3002 (Wetmore Road) in Hamilton Township and Township Line Road in Wetmore Township. Tuesday, May 27, through Friday, May 30. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours.
- Route 6 starting approximately a quarter mile west of Detrick Road in Wetmore Township and continuing eastbound three-tenths of a mile past the intersection of Route 219 at Lantz Corner. Tuesday, May 27, through Friday, May 30. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours.
Most permanent pothole patching is completed in the spring/summer when temperatures stay consistently above freezing. If maintenance crews were not repairing potholes, the road surface would break up further and require more expensive corrective measures.
Pipe Replacing & Cleaning
- Route 6 starts between Gibbs Hill Road in Hamilton Township and Route 219 at Lantz Corner in Hamlin Township. Tuesday, May 27, through Friday, May 30. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours.
- Route 546 approximately 300 feet south of Bootleg Hollow Road in Otto Township. Tuesday, May 27, through Friday, May 30. This work takes place off the roadway and has minimal, if any, traffic impact, however PennDOT still urges drivers to exercise caution when passing crews working along the shoulder.
Pipe replacement and cleaning are essential in maintaining water flow around state roadways. Controlling water flow is one of the most important aspects of maintaining pavements. Uncontrolled water flow will damage both the pavement surface and the area under the pavement, which causes deterioration across the length of the pipe.
Vegetation Management
- Route 446 between a bridge spanning the Western New York & Pennsylvania Railroad and Larabee Road in Eldred Township. Tuesday, May 27. This work takes place off the roadway and has minimal, if any, traffic impact, however PennDOT still urges drivers to exercise caution when passing crews working along the shoulder.
- Route 770 (Minard Road) at the merge point with Route 646 in Keating Township. Wednesday, May 28. This work takes place off the roadway and has minimal, if any, traffic impact, however PennDOT still urges drivers to exercise caution when passing crews working along the shoulder.
- Route 346 (Derrick Road) in the island at the intersection of Derrick and Looker Mountain Township roads. Thursday, May 29. This work takes place off the roadway and has minimal, if any, traffic impact, however PennDOT still urges drivers to exercise caution when passing crews working along the shoulder.
- Route 155 between Route 446 in Eldred Township and Route 6 in Port Allegany Borough. Tuesday, May 27, through Friday, May 30. This work takes place off the roadway and has minimal, if any, traffic impact, however PennDOT still urges drivers to exercise caution when passing crews working along the shoulder.
- Route 155 starting at Route 6 in Port Allegany Borough and the McKean-Potter County Line approximately 8.25 miles south of Port Allegany Borough in Liberty Township. Tuesday, May 23, through Friday, May 30. This work takes place off the roadway and has minimal, if any, traffic impact, however PennDOT still urges drivers to exercise caution when passing crews working along the shoulder.
Mowing, herbicide spraying, and selected tree thinning help maintain a safe roadway free of obstructing vegetation, improving visibility to spot signage, traffic control devices, and other motorists, bicyclists, pedestrians, and animals approaching the road. Additionally, a well-maintained roadside can improve drainage and prolong the life of the roadway.
This schedule is subject to change due to weather conditions, emergencies, or other unforeseen interruptions.
