Paul E. “Gene” Westerburg, 95, of Kane, PA, formerly of Wilcox
Paul E. “Gene” Westerburg, 95, of Kane, PA, formerly of Wilcox, passed away on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at his home.
He was born on June 18, 1928 in Kane, the son of the late Irving and Helen Mines Westerburg.
He attended the Wilcox area schools.
On September 2, 1950 in the St. Callistus Catholic Church Rectory, Kane, he married Elizabeth A. “Betty” Cuthbertson who preceded him in death on March 10, 2022.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He served in Italy for 1 ½ years during the occupation of Europe prior to being recalled for one year of service for the Korean War.
He was a member of the St. Callistus Catholic Church.
He was employed for forty-four years at the Johnsonburg paper mill; retiring in 1992.
He is survived by two sons, David (Kathy) Westerburg of Kane and Paul (Mary-Lu) Westerburg of Bradford; three grandsons, Stephen (Michelle) Westerburg of Kane, James (Kersten) Westerburg of Simpsonville, SC and Eric (Shaina) Westerburg of Bradford; two granddaughters, Sara (Matt) Rowles of Fort Mill, SC and Nicole (Rob) Salzer of Eldred; five great-grandchildren, Kyle Westerburg, Weston Rowles, Cullen Rowles, Cora Salzer and Brennan Rowles and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by one grandson, Bryan D. Westerburg; one sister, Lois Caristo; one niece, Lisa Cuthbertson and two nephews, James and Richard Cuthbertson.
Private funeral services will be held at a later date.
Burial will be in St. Callistus Cemetery, Kane.
Memorial contributions in his memory can be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
