The Consortium spent the past 18 months building an updated roadmap for the Pressed Materials industry in Cameron, Clearfield, Elk, Jefferson, McKean, and Potter counties thanks to support from a US Economic Development Administration (EDA) grant. 

North Central Pennsylvania Region – The North Central Pennsylvania Pressed Materials Consortium, a group of private industry, government, economic development, workforce development, and other nonprofit partners, has released its new Strategic Action Plan, “From Powder to Power: Positioning the Pressed Materials Industry as an Engine for U.S. Innovation and Growth.” 

All of November through the week before Christmas, the Potter County Farmers Market will move indoors to the Riley Gallery, next to the Crittenden, on SATURDAY from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. The next market will be this Saturday, November 8th. Here is a list of who plans to be there and what they plan on bringing to the Market:

Smethport, PA – John Mark Miller will be assisting McKean County farmers through the Penn State Extension office in Smethport, PA. John Mark has worked for Penn State Extension in the region for a number of years filling in vacancies across western Pennsylvania and the Appalachia region.

He attended Penn State Dubois and Penn State University where he earned a Bachelor in Agricultural Business. He is a native of Punxsutawney, PA where his family operates a crop farm. Most of his time will be spent in the field doing assessments and teaching at workshops.

Montoursville, PA – Motorists are advised of a curb replacement project next week on Route 11 in Shamokin Dam Township, Snyder County.

Beginning Monday, November 10, 2025, a contractor working for Seven Brew will be replacing the curb on Route 11 between Stetler Avenue and Kessler Avenue, in the area across from the McDonald’s.

Work will take place between the hours of 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM and is expected to take two days to complete, weather permitting. Motorist can expect the right (driving) lane to be restricted while work is being performed.

WHAT: The bridge carrying Route 346 over Willow Creek in Corydon Township, McKean County, is being designated as the Private First Class Bruce A. Cobb Memorial Bridge.

The Deane Center for the Performing Arts is presenting Disciple of the Garden: A Tribute to Chris Cornell, Soundgarden and Audioslave next Friday, Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m. in the Coolidge Theatre at 104 Main Street in Wellsboro.

This performance honors Cornell’s unparalleled voice, poignant lyrics, and groundbreaking contributions to rock music.

Rolling Stone magazine, a prominent music publication, praised Cornell for his powerful vocal range, songwriting abilities, and charismatic stage presence. They often referred to him as “one of the greatest rock vocalists of his generation”. Additionally, Rolling Stone recognized Cornell’s impact on the grunge and rock music scenes through his work with Soundgarden and Audioslave.

Anthony John DeBock, 74, of Bradford, passed away on Monday, November 3, 2025 at his home.

He was born on December 8, 1950 in Sittard, Netherlands; a son of the late Jack and Mary DeBock.

He attended Otto Eldred schools.

On April 30, 1976 in the St. Bernard Catholic Church; he married Julie Romanelli who survives.

He was employed by the former Cooper Industries, Olean, NY for several years prior to his employment with Bradford Forest Products; where he worked for 20+ years until his retirement in 2020.

Montoursville, PA – Work continues on the roadway improvement project on Route 44 north of the intersection with Route 414 in Cummings Township, Lycoming County. This week, the contractor will complete the geosynthetic soil wall, pave, and place line paint. Motorists can expect single lane conditions with flagging where work is being performed. Work will be Wednesday and Thursday 24-hours a day and daylight hours only on Friday.

11/5/2025 UPDATE: Work on this project will continue through Friday, November 7, 2025. Motorists can expect the Route 11 left (passing) lane will be restricted in both directions between Route 35 in Penn Township and Main Street in Port Trevorton, Union Township, while a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) maintenance crew paves the shoulder in the area of the barrier.

Montoursville, PA – Motorists are advised that a portion of Canoe Camp Creek Road (Route 2027) will be closed next week in Richmond Township, Tioga County, for a roadway maintenance project.

Between Monday, October 6, 2025, and Friday, October 10, 2025, Canoe Camp Creek Road will be closed at the intersection with West Gate Road while a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) maintenance crew performs work on a 60-inch cross pipe. Work on the project includes excavation, lowering the gas line, resetting the cross pipe, and constructing a headwall.

A detour using South Main Street (Route 2005), East Hill Road (Route 2022), and Canoe Camp Creek Road, will be in place for the duration of the project.

Motorists should be alert, slow down, expect delays in travel, and drive with caution.

At 1 p.m. on Veterans Day, this coming Tuesday, Nov. 11, the Deane Center’s free Golden Afternoons program will honor military veterans of the United States Armed Forces and active military personnel with a sing-a-long.

Veterans Day is a federal holiday observed in the United States on November 11 every year.

SHINGLEHOUSE, PA—Esther R. Ray, 87, of Shinglehouse, formerly of Okeechobee, Florida, passed away on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, in Sweden Valley Manor, Coudersport, after a long illness.

Funeral arrangements, entrusted to the care of Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, are incomplete and will be announced with a full obituary.

Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, and Virginia policymakers collaborate to restore affordability and reliability to the PJM grid

HARRISBURG – Lawmakers from Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, and Virginia came together last Tuesday for the first-ever, multi-state policy hearing focused on restoring energy affordability and reliability across the Mid-Atlantic region. The hearing, hosted by the Pennsylvania House Republican Policy Committee and chaired by Rep. David H. Rowe (R-Snyder/Union/Mifflin/Juniata), brought together legislators and energy policy experts to highlight the urgent need for coordinated, commonsense reforms.

Businesses and organizations in Cameron County preparing for the holiday season.  Cameron County Chamber of Commerce executive director Tina Solak says changes are in the air.  The biggest change will be the addition of vendors to the parade night festivities.  “The change means on Saturday activities will be centered on children” says Solak.  December 6 will have breakfast with Santa and his reindeer and a story with an elf.

The season begins with the arrival of the Christmas tree in the town square.  The tree has been donated by the Erik and Marilyn Erickson.  Smoker Logging will cut and transport the tree November 15.
