What are your children doing this summer? Taking time off from school is fun and often highly anticipated, but it is important that they stay productively engaged during this down time. Keeping them mentally and physically strong will help benefit them overall, especially when it is time to return to school in August.
Physical Activities
Sixty minutes of physical movement for children each day is the goal, and this can easily be done when prioritizing time outside and trying new activities.
Kids often get to participate in camps centered around sports and other hobbies. If you know they are not going to be physically active while away, plan exercise before or after their camp day. If possible, try walking or riding bikes with them for their summer activities.
On free days, opt for less screen time and go out to explore nature. There are so many options in north central Pennsylvania, like hiking, camping, kayaking, etc.

Allyson N. Auge, 36, of 6710 Oyler Avenue, Kill Buck, NY, passed away unexpectedly, Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at her residence after a long battle with Crohn’s.
Allyson was born in Olean, NY on December 12, 1986. She was a daughter of Julie (Beer) Newman, of Bradford, and the late Thomas Riddle. She was a 2004 graduate of Bradford High School.
On August 13, 2016, in Allegany NY, she married Carl T. Auge who survives.
Allyson’s greatest joy in life was her children. Even on her most challenging days, you would still see her in attendance supporting her children during band concerts, football games, baseball games, basketball games, and cheering events. She lived for those special moments with the ones that she loved so much, including her dog Hunter who never left her side.
She was the president of the Salamanca Youth Football Sabers Organization from 2020-2022.
Surviving in addition to her husband Carl of Kill Buck NY, and mother Julie of Bradford, are one daughter, Chloe Holleran, three sons, Cory Holleran, and twins, Logan and Lucas Auge, all at home. Additionally, four sisters: Marina Newman, Alise Newman, Marissa Newman, and Andrea Newman, all of Bradford, one brother, Aaron (Hannah) Bobenrieth of Rixford, one sister-in-law, Katie (Matt) Auge, her maternal grandfather, Dan Fitzgerald of Lewis Run, paternal grandparents, Robert and Carol Riddle of White, GA, one niece, Ivy Bobenrieth, and her in-laws, Mary Kay and Chuck Oyler of Little Valley, and Don and Tammy Auge of Great Valley, NY, along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas, who died in December of 2021, and her maternal grandmother, Carol Fitzgerald who died October 2022.
Family will receive friends on Monday, June 12, 2023, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc., 372 East Main Street, Bradford, and again on Tuesday from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the funeral home, at 11:00 am funeral services will be held with Pastor Jim Lenaway, Pastor of the First Free Methodist Church, officiating. Committal services and burial will follow in McKean Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made in her name to the Salamanca Warriors Youth Football 3893 Ellicott St., Salamanca, NY 14779 or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Connie R. Sikes, 74, of Shinglehouse, PA passed away on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, in UPMC Cole Place, Coudersport, after a short illness.
Born on Thursday, March 31, 1949 in Wellsboro, she was a daughter of Harley and Eunice Clark Worthington. In Ceres, she married Donald L. Sikes, who survives.
Connie was a graduate of Oswayo Valley High School in Shinglehouse. She attended the former Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Shinglehouse. She loved spending time with her family and close friends. She also loved watching wrestling on Monday nights, but most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband; four children, Tracey Damon of Oswayo, Dawn (James) Hunter of Arlington, Texas, David Sikes of Pittsburgh, and Kimberly (Scott) Shelp of Shinglehouse; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three brothers, William (Tracy) Worthington of Tavares, Florida, Lyle (Francine) Worthington of West Clarksville, N.Y., and Harold (Alice) Worthington of Portville, N.Y.; two sisters, Audrey Sweitzer of Lewistown and Diane Harvey of Eldred; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Connie was predeceased by a daughter, Veronica Unverdorben; two brothers; and three sisters.
In keeping with Connie’s wishes, there will be no public visitation or funeral services.

COUDERSPORT, Pa.—Gary Allen Sturdevant, 90, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great- grandfather and brother, a lifelong resident of Coudersport, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, in his home surrounded by his loving family.
Gary was born on August 11, 1932 in Coudersport. He was adopted and raised by his grandparents, Amos and Nellie Sturdevant. As a child he attended the Hebron Center and Coneville Schoolhouses and later attended the Coudersport High School. While in high school, he was a member of the FFA Spud Growers Chapter.
On May 17, 1952, he married the love of his life, Donna Mae Baker, who survives. They were wed at the Methodist Parsonage in Coudersport, with Kip and Shirley Saulter by their sides as attendants. During their 71 years of marriage, they were blessed with four children, who brought years of joy to their lives. Gary enjoyed fishing, mowing his lawn with his Wheelhorse and he especially enjoyed the yearly family summer trips to Maine. There, he enjoyed camping and fishing on Raymond Pond and Crescent Lake with his family.
He also immensely enjoyed watching his grandsons, Tyler and Troy Schroeder play soccer, his granddaughters, Krista, Kim, Gabby and Emma and his grandsons, Rodney Jr. and Jake ride and show their animals at the fair, and his grandson, Andrew and granddaughter, Bethie show their cows at the local fairs. His favorite past-time was playing his harmonica and listening to polka and bluegrass music.
Gary was a true “jack of all trades” and held a wide knowledge of being able to fix anything from his long work history. He was employed by Clark Brothers of Olean, LH Lincoln, Nestole Road and Gerner Electric. He was also a Hebron Township Supervisor for many years, but he is most famously known as the owner and operator of Gary Sturdevant General Contracting for over 40 years. His love and faith in the Lord carried him through the years and he was a member of the North Eulalia Baptist Church in Coudersport.
In addition to his grandparents and his biological mother, Louise Lawton, Gary was preceded in death by three siblings; Amos Lawton, Jerry Lawton and Diane Carlin.
Gary will be greatly missed by, not only Donna, but their four children as well; Terry (Linda) Sturdevant of Coudersport, Steve (Valerie) Sturdevant of Coudersport, JoElla (Alan) Kinney of Port Allegany and Kathy (Jeff) Schroeder of Coudersport.
He was blessed with many grandchildren; Krista (Rod) Doran of Coudersport, Kimberly (John) Dailey of Coudersport, Andrew Kinney of Philadelphia, Bethie (Ben) Pevornik of Port Allegany, Tyler (Brianna) Schroeder of Port Allegany and Troy (Teagen) Schroeder of Coudersport.
Gary is also survived by a sister, Tammy Allen of Andover, N.Y.
Gary loved his family and they were his greatest accomplishment. He had the pleasure of watching eight great grandchildren; Gabby, Rodney Jr., Emma, Jake, Cole, Sawyer, Ella and Emilia; one great great grandson, Duke Amos and several beloved nieces and nephews grow.
His funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at his lifelong church, North Eulalia Baptist Church, 683 SR 49, Coudersport, with a viewing from 11:00am to 1:00pm, with a service officiated by Pastor Michael Reeves at 1:00pm. Gary will be laid to rest in the Hollenbeck Cemetery in Coudersport.

Diana Joan FISHER, 75, of Wellsville, NY, died Saturday, June 3, 2023 in her home. Born November 20, 1947, in Olean, she was the daughter of Albert L. and Stella T. Zapel Burdick. Diana was an artist and enjoyed cooking and baking for her family.
Surviving are: three sons, Todd (Sherry) Fisher of Wellsville, James (Tara) Fisher of Wellsville, and Dean Fisher of Rochester; five grandchildren, Jessica Fisher, Brianna Fisher, Brittany Mesler, Dalton Fisher, and Justin Fisher; a great-grandson, Callen Reed; three step-children, Jonathon Armstrong, Lori Dandride, and Tracy Ahrens, all of Wellsville; two sisters, Gail Cangialosi of Rochester and Betsy Eade of Florida; two brothers, Albert Burdick, Jr of Michigan and Stephen (Gloria) Burdick of Rochester; nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; former husband, Leslie D. Fisher; and her significant other of over 20 years, John Armstrong.
