Loving mother, grandmother & sister
Tina M. Mesler, 58, of Honeoye Street, Shinglehouse, PA passed away on Thursday, June 15, 2023, at the home of her daughter, Megan Mesler in Port Allegany, surrounded by her loving family following a courageous battle with cancer.
Tina was born on April 22, 1965 in Olean and was the daughter of Lee I. and Donna Jean Maple Wyant. She was formerly married to Michael W. Mesler.
Tina was a 1983 graduate of Olean High School. She worked at her family’s restaurant (Donna’s Restaurant on Rock City in Olean), and then Shinglehouse American Legion, Anderson Tavern, Adelphia- Time Warner to Morgan AM&T. Tina was a Certified Medical Assistant working for UPMC Charles Cole in Coudersport for the past eight years.
Tina was a member of the Bradford Church of Nazarene. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Shinglehouse American Legion where she has been a member since 1997. Tina enjoyed playing cards, boating, motorcycle riding, and spending time with her family. She was known for baking cakes for many events.
Tina is survived by two children, Joshua Lee (Carly Daughenbaugh) Mesler of Shinglehouse, PA and Megan J. (Phil Viereck) Mesler of Port Allegany; one granddaughter, Raelynn Wixson; three siblings, Darla K. Corah of NC, Lisa (Daryl) Avin of SC and Sam Wyant of NC; her loving companion, Jim Croft and several nieces and nephews.
Tina was predeceased by her parents.

2 PA Troopers Shot; One Fatally; Suspect Dead

There was a police involved shooting in Mifflintown today. Unfortunately one
PSP trooper succumbed to his injuries.
Sending sincere condolences to the PA State Police, all friends/families and first responders.
Officials with the Pennsylvania State Police said one trooper encountered an armed person sometime around 12:45 Saturday afternoon near Mifflintown in Juniata County.
The trooper was shot and wounded and taken to a hospital for treatment. The trooper was said to have serious injuries.

Authorities said the suspect was located at about 2:45 p.m. in Walker Township. Troopers and the suspect fired at each other. One trooper and the suspect were shot and killed.
PSP is asking the public to avoid the area of PSP Lewistown due to the active scene.
When a police officer is killed, it’s not an agency that loses an officer, it’s an entire nation.

This afternoon, a PA State Police trooper was killed in the line of duty in Juniata County. Another trooper was shot and is now stable but in critical condition.
Each one put themselves on the line to protect their fellow troopers — and to protect their fellow Pennsylvanians.
I just left the hospital where the injured trooper is being treated. PA State Police Commissioner Paris and I thanked his colleagues for their service and prayed for his recovery.

Double fatal collision in Town of Freedom

On June 17, 2023 at approximately 12:05 p.m., Troopers out of SP Machias responded to a head-on collision on Freedom Road in the town of Freedom.
Preliminary investigation determined that a 2006 Dodge Ram traveling west bound on Freedom Road crossed the center line and struck an oncoming 2005 Ford Focus traveling east bound.
The operator of the Ford and a passenger were taken by Mercy Flight for serious injuries. The other two passengers in the Ford were deceased at the scene. The operator of the Dodge was treated on scene for minor injuries and transported to SP Warsaw for an evaluation and the passenger of the Dodge was transported by Mercy Flight with serious injuries.
NYSP Collision Reconstruction Unit, Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Arcade Fire Department are on scene and assisting.
Updated information will be released as the investigation continues.
This is an active investigation.

Linda L. Phillips, 81, of Shinglehouse, passed away at home with her loving children by her side on Saturday, June 17, 2023, after a long illness.

Investigation Into Fatal ATA Bus/Bicycle Accident Concluded
District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer and City of Bradford Police Chief Michael Ward report that the investigation into the ATA/bicycle crash that claimed the life of a young Bradford man has concluded.
On June 7th, City of Bradford Police along with City of Bradford Fire Department and EMS responded to the scene on North Center and Pleasant Streets.
Bradford City Police has concluded that no charges will be filed against the ATA driver.
Officers were able to rule out speed and recklessness (including ruling out drugs or alcohol) of the ATA driver.
A residence near the scene had a security camera that captured the entire incident and showed the bicycle enter the intersection at a fast pace.
The ATA bus legally proceeded into the intersection at a speed below the speed limit but collided with the bicycle who failed to stop at the stop sign.
The young man operating the bicycle passed away from the injuries sustained in the crash.

Rose Marie Johnson, 71, of Welsh St, Kane, PA
Rose Marie Johnson, 71, of Welsh St, Kane, PA passed away on Thursday, June 15, at her residence following a lengthy illness. Born Nov. 2, 1951 in Kane, she was the third of eight children born to the late John and Stephie (Kandare) Komidar.
Rose was a lifelong resident of Kane, graduating from Kane High School in 1969. On September 29, 1984, she married Ken Johnson, who survives.
Rose’s legacy is one of love, strength, selflessness, and resilience. She had a heart that overflowed with compassion and was always ready to lend a helping hand, even while she was facing her own challenging health struggles. Her genuine concern for others and her kindness left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Rose’s great joy in life was her family. As a wife, she was the epitome of love and support. Her unwavering devotion to her husband (and he to her) was evident in every aspect of their lives. As a mother, she poured her heart and soul into raising her son, Josh. She was his rock, his confidante, and his biggest cheerleader. Her unconditional love knew no bounds. As a grandmother, Rose adored her granddaughter, Elise, and shared with pride all of her accomplishments, especially in dance.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son Josh (Ashley) Komidar and granddaughter Elise Komidar of Kane, three sisters, Linda (Satch) Wenner of St. Mary’s, Kathy (Bill) Pude of Bradford and Ginny (Craig) Carrow of Johnsonburg, two brothers John (Jackie) Komidar of Pittsburgh and Frank (Lisa) Komidar of Kane; two sisters-in-law, Janice Johnson of South Carolina and Amy (Bill Rook) Johnson of Kane, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, who all loved and adored her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and their spouses, Mary (Rich) Miller and Ann (Jim) Dobrin, her in-laws, Ed and Pat Johnson and a brother-in-law, Ed Johnson.
Friends are invited to attend a memorial service which will be conducted on Thursday (June 22) at 11:00 a.m. at the Cummings Funeral Home, with the Rev. David Pflieger officiating. A luncheon will follow at the Dam Inn, 3205 Glen Hazel Rd., Wilcox.

Part-Time CBVI Job Coach in McKean/Elk County
The CBVI job coach is a part-time position (a maximum of 29 hours/week) at an hourly rate to be determined at the time of hire. This position requires a high school diploma or GED-equivalent with preference given to associates and/or bachelors degree holders and/or those with relative experience working with teenagers or young adults. The ability to obtain Act 34, 151, and FBI clearances, along with a clean driving record is required. The job coach must complete substitute teacher training or job coach training certification, as well as first aid certification. They must also participate in the IU9’s annual in-service and quarterly CBVI meetings. Responsibilities may include light physical demands and hours may be scheduled outside of normal school day hours.

Michael W. Lancaster, 69, of Austin, PA passed away Thursday, June 15, 2023 at UPMC Cole.
He was born September 2, 1953 in Lancaster, PA to Clarence Eugene and Eleanor Grace (Jenkins) Lancaster. He went to school in Elizabethtown and afterwards went to work in construction.
Michael loved building things, and was full of ideas about new things to build and new ways to build them. He enjoyed hunting and had traveled from Elizabethtown to Potter county to hunt and enjoy the outdoors.
When he had the opportunity he bought a cabin outside of Austin, and finished it so that he could live here year-round. Here he could enjoy working, hunting, riding his motorcycle, splitting his wood, and his cats.
Michael is survived by three daughters: Johnelle Reeser (Nathaniel) of Elizabethtown, Hope Brocious (Aaron) of Elizabethtown, and Lindsay Lancaster of Elizabethtown; 11 grandchildren; four brothers: Thomas Lancaster of Elizabethtown, Richard Lancaster (Jodi) of Elizabethtown, Daniel Lancaster (Deb) of Bainbridge, PA, and Randy Lancaster (Lou Ann) of Bainbridge, PA; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son: Michael W. Lancaster, Jr.
