Leon “Skip” Peters, 62, of Greeves St. in Kane, PA passed away Friday (July 14) at UPMC-Hamot. Born in Kane on March 25, 1961, he is a son of the late Leon and Jean (Spence) Peters.
Skip had worked in Texas for several years running heavy machinery. He then returned to Kane, where he worked at Syzmanski’s Restaurant for many years.
Surviving relatives include three sisters, Deb Hayduk and Lisa Peters, both of Kane and Lori Mazzulla of Wilcox; one brother Mick Peters of Kane; a daughter Kelly (Bill) Bliss of Kane and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother Dean Peters.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Edward “Fast Eddie” F. Zarnick, 69, of 1st Lane in Hutchins, PA passed away Thursday (July 13) at UPMC-Hamot. Born July 1, 1954 in Kane, he was the son of the late Edward and Sylvia (Spetic) Zarnick.
He is survived by two sisters, Kathy (Jim) Ahlberg of Wilcox and Victoria Zarnick of Warren; three nieces, Kara (Kris) Parrish, Kristin (Matt) Dunmire, and Dana (Jonathan Johnson) Ahlberg; a nephew, Lee Zarnick; and his beloved Newfoundland dogs, Cookie and Elmer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Germaine Zarnick.
Ed graduated from Kane High School and then from the National Hardwood School in Memphis, TN. He worked as a lumber grader for Kane Hardwood for many years and then continued grading lumber independently afterward.
He was a musician who played many string instruments, including with his nationally-touring band, the West Kane Ramblers. He was a cartoonist; an avid reader; and a lifelong fan of the Cleveland Indians and Buffalo Bills.
He was a bicyclist who logged hundreds of thousands of miles, with a goal of riding his bike in every U.S. state. He was known for riding his bicycle all over the area and for driving or walking his Newfoundland dogs around town.
Those who knew Ed couldn’t help but smile at his self-deprecating sense of humor. The world was a brighter place for having Ed in it. He will be missed tremendously by his family, his friends, his dogs, and his community.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family.

(MCKEAN COUNTY, July 17, 2023) McKean County District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer reports that, following a one day jury trial at the McKean County Courthouse, Ryan Christopher Forsythe was convicted of firearms violations. On July 19, 2022, Pennsylvania State Police initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle near Campus Drive in Bradford Township. FORSYTHE was found to be driving the vehicle.
Troopers found a loaded firearm within the vehicle. FORSYTHE is prohibited by statute from possessing a firearm. Additionally, he possessed the firearm in a vehicle and did not have a concealed carry permit.
Trooper Bradley Walters of the Pennsylvania State Police-Lewis Run barracks investigated the case. Assistant District Attorney Sarah Dufresne prosecuted the case on behalf of the Commonwealth. FORSYTHE was convicted of Persons Not to Possess a Firearm (Felony 1); Carrying a Firearm Without a License (Felony 3); and several vehicle code violations. The jury found that the firearm was loaded so the Commonwealth will seek a sentencing enhancement as provided for under the Sentencing Code due to the increased risk to law enforcement. FORSYTHE is currently the subject of a bench warrant. Sentencing will be scheduled at a later date.
Reuben H. Harrington, 84, of Emporium, PA, formerly of California passed away at Pinecrest Manor, St. Marys, PA on Monday evening (July 17, 2023) following a brief illness. He was born September 2, 1938 in Clearfield, PA a son of the late Reuben and Evelyn Harris Harrington. He married Betty Campbell of California who survives.
Reuben lived in California for many years and worked in auto sales. He was a member of the Free Methodist Church and the Gathering Place.
In addition to his wife Betty, Reuben is survived by three daughters, Violet Sheridan, Ridgway; Margaret Woods, Emporium, PA; Teddi Ann Smith, Emporium; son, Forrest William Drake, New York; brother, Charles Harrington, Florida; along with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Edna Harrington; a son Reuben Harrington; brother, Benny Harrington; step daughter, Diana Ross and a sister, Lois Barr.
There will be No Visitation. Memorial Service will be held at the Free Methodist Church, 240 East Fourth Street, Emporium, PA on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Mary Ann Hockey, officiating.

COUDERSPORT, Pa. — Potter County Commissioners have contracted MCM Consulting Group Inc. to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the county’s emergency communications system and develop a technical plan for any recommended enhancements.
“Among all of our priorities, public safety is at the top of the list,” the commissioners said in a news release. “We need to ensure that the 24/7 communication needs of the fire, police and emergency medical personnel from all across the county are being met.”
MCM will be taking a two-pronged approach in assessing the current public safety radio system infrastructure:
an inspection and analysis of the county’s public safety radio communications infrastructure;
a review of the equipment being used by local and regional emergency response agencies to ensure compatibility and functionality with the county’s infrastructure.
“MCM has conducted numerous radio system assessments and plans for other counties,” the commissioners said. “The company will work with the county’s 9-1-1 personnel, first responder agencies, and the county’s radio system maintenance provider to profile the existing system and identify what works well and where enhancements could be made that are cost-effective, technically sound, and reliable for the users of the system.”

Mildred May Phillips, age 97, of Sabinsville, PA passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2023 at Samantha’s Personal Care Home in Westfield.
Born September 14, 1925 in Fairmont, WV, she was the daughter of the late William and Florence (Wortman) Baker. On March 26, 1947 in Blacksville, WV, she married Roy W. “Bunker” Phillips, Sr. who preceded her on April 22, 1980.
She was a member of the Senior Citizens Group and a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 33 in Westfield.
Mildred enjoyed bingo, camping, bus trips, crocheting and reading. Most of all she loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by three daughters, Linda (William) Brindley of Millsboro, DE, Irene (William) Douglass of Sabinsville and June (Kenneth) May of Little Marsh; daughter in law, Cynthia Davis Phillips of Sabinsville; grandchildren, Sarah Douglass Moore of Middleburg, FL, Melita Phillips Foulkrod of Sabinsville, John (Theresa) Douglass of Columbia, SC, Steven (Danielle) May of Middlebury Center and Courtney May of Little Marsh; four great grandchildren; sister in law, Opal Phillips Hughes of Lorain, OH and several nieces and nephews.

Richard E. Mansfeld, age 68, of Knoxville, PA passed away at home on his birthday, Thursday, July 13, 2023 surrounded by family. Born
July 13, 1955 in Fountain Hill, PA, he was the son of the late Ernest F. Mansfeld and Virginia A. (Stenger) Crossley.
He resided in Hellertown and owned and operated Mansfeld Fuel Oil Co in the 80s and early 90s. At the time of his passing Rick was co-owner of E R Mansfeld, LLC; dba Walker Fuels in Quakertown, PA.
He bought his home and property in Tioga County in 1991, where he became a hobby farmer and steward of the land. Rick loved his place and the views it afforded. He a was an avid outdoorsman and had a great love for wildlife and hunting, especially whitetail deer.
Rick was a member and Past Master of Cowanesque Masonic Lodge #351.
He will forever be remembered by his friends and family for his good natured attitude and smile. Always one to love conversation, he made friends everywhere he went.
He is survived by special friend and love of his life, Susan Osti; his children, Eric R. Mansfeld of Quakertown and Elizabeth (Marie) Mansfeld of Bethlehem; granddaughters, Olivia, Alicia, and Willa Mansfeld, grandson Ezra R. Mansfeld, and sister, Denise (James) Russell of FL.
Services will be held at a later date.

Colleen M. Cavalline, 76, passed away peacefully at home on July 15, after a four-year battle with pancreatic cancer.
She was born on March 5, 1947, in Ridgway PA, daughter to the late Eila (West) Robinson and Donald J. Robinson. She was assisted in coming into this world by her beloved late grandmother, Ellen Robinson, a retired nurse.
On June 7, 1980, she married Dave Cavalline. They just recently celebrated their 43rd anniversary.
Colleen was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, having taught Sunday School there in her younger years, and was a 1965 graduate of Ridgway High School. After working at a few offices in the area, she ended her career with many years in the business office of Elk Regional Hospital.
Her life centered around her family. Nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her children and grandchildren, and she loved having travel adventures with her husband, particularly autumn wine trips to the Finger Lakes.
She was an avid reader and was proud of having belonged to the Ridgway Library for over fifty years. One of her favorite sayings was, “So many books, so little time.” She was also a quilter. In addition to the many quilts in her home, each of her children, grandchildren, and sons-in-law was given a special quilt that she made for them.
She loved to take part in many activities, but often preferred to stay in the background, enthusiastically supporting others in the spotlight.
Besides her husband, she is survived by three children, Amy (Milford) Tremel and husband Jeff of Pittsburgh; Laura (Milford) Eagen of Deland, FL; and Tony Cavalline and husband Kyle Webster of Pittsburgh; two granddaughters, Hannah and Julia Tremel; one grandson, Connor Eagen; two sisters, Jeanne Hickey of Ludlow and Anne Robinson of Ridgway, and one brother, Joe Robinson (Marie) of Holtwood PA; as well as an extended family of in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Pat Robinson; a sister in-law, Bonnie Robinson; and two brothers in-law, Scott Hickey and Frank Caggiano.

Ermaleta “Erma” Petrick, 89, of Warren, PA, died on Monday July 17, 2023, at the Warren Manor.
She was born in Newark, Vermont, on October 17, 1933, the daughter of the late William and Geneva Rosebrook.
Ermaleta enjoyed, gardening, especially floral gardening, and enjoyed spending time with friends and family. She was a long-time member of the Warren Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Ermaleta is survived by her two sons, Mark Lascola of Waco, TX and Tim and Theresa Lascola of Warren, Pa; four step children, Cindy Duttry of Orlando, FL, Dale and Lorraine Provins of Buena Vista, PA, David and Linda Provins of Clairton, PA, and Jeanne and Edward Perozich of Martinsburg, West Virginia; four granddaughters, Andrea Lascola of Denver, CO, Nicki Lascola of Denver, CO, Regan Lascola and Amber Lascola; several step grandchildren; great grandchildren; and at least on great great grandson; sister Elizabeth Bronson of Bennington, VT.
In addition to her parents Erma was preceded in death by three husbands, Ignatius Lascola, Wallace Dale Provins, and Joe Petrick; two sons, Tony Lascola and Joe Lascola; one daughter, Lea Provins; granddaughter, Jennie Lascola; and one brother, William Rosebrook Jr.

William J. Hannahs, 92, of Pear Street, formerly of 1177 East Main Street, Bradford, PA passed away Sunday, July 16, 2023, at UPMC Hamot Medical Center, with his children by his side.
Born August 5, 1930, in Bradford, he was a son of the late Howard Hannahs and Beatrice (Smith) Sprankle. He was a 1950 graduate of Bradford High School.
On September 13, 1953, he enlisted in the United States Navy. He served in Korea during the conflict aboard the USS N.K. Perry. He was honorably discharged on July 8, 1954.
On November 22, 1952, in Bradford, he married Elaine G (Benjamin) Hannahs, who preceded him in death on May 26, 2008.
Bill was employed at Kendall Refining Company and retired from Witco in 1993.
He attended the Bolivar Drive Baptist Church.
Surviving is one daughter, Debby (Rod) Abrams, of Florida, three sons, Scott (Susan) Hannahs, John (Michele) Hannahs, and Kevin (Warrie Dickinson) Hannahs, all of Bradford, four grandchildren, Chad (Diane) Abrams, Jacob Hannahs, Megan (Mark) Graham, and Jason (Carys) Hannahs, five great grandchildren, Destiny (Andy) Lile, Wyatt Abrams, Payton Eddy, Armani Hannahs, and Jane Hannahs, one half-brother, Francis Smith, of Florida, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and one sister, Virginia Knapp

Jack E. Lipsey, 80, of Lipsey Lane, Kersey, PA passed away on Monday, July 17, 2023 at Penn Highlands Elk following a brief illness.
He was born on June 12, 1943 in Kersey, PA, a son of the late John and Twila Sidelinger Lipsey.
On June 27, 1964, at Queen of the World Church, he married Linda Herzing Lipsey, who survives. Together they shared more than 59 years together.
Jack was a lifelong resident of Kersey and member of St. Boniface Church. He served in the U.S. Army from 1962-1964 and retired from St. Marys Carbon Company after more than 35 years of service. He was a proud and dedicated member of the Fox Township Firemen’s, having been active with the Fire Police for more than 35 years. He was also a member of the Dagus Mines Legion. Jack will be remembered as a good husband, father, and grandfather who could often be found tinkering in his garage.
In addition to his wife, Linda, of 59 years, he is survived by three children; Terry (Cheryl) Lipsey of Sandwich, IL, Tim (Tori) Lipsey of Kersey, and Tammy (Russ) Krise of Kersey; and by 6 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother; Mark (Joyce) Mosier of Kersey as well as by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven siblings; Thomas, Raymond, Bruce, Michael, Faye, Ann, and Karen, as well as by two grandchildren; TJ Lipsey and Ashley Lipsey.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Jack E. Lipsey will be celebrated on Friday, July 21, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St. Boniface Church, 355 Main Street, Kersey, PA 15846 with Fr. Kevin Holland, Pastor, officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by the Fox Township Burial Detail.
Interment will follow in the St. Boniface Cemetery.
Family and friends will be received at St. Boniface Church on Friday, July 21, 2023 from 10:30 AM until the time of the service.

Robert R. Moonan, 88, of 835 High Street, Bradford, PA passed away Sunday, July 16, 2023, at The Pavilion @ BRMC.
Born August 21, 1934, in Bradford, he was a son of the late Thomas and Loraine (Higgins) Moonan. He was a graduate of Bradford High School.
On October 27, 1956, in Bradford, he married Donna C. (McCollough) Moonan, who preceded him in death on October 16, 2006.
Bob was a self-employed engine mechanic and excelled in automatic transmissions. He was a former assistant shop teacher at Bradford High and for many years was a self-employed heavy equipment operator and owned Moonan’s Excavating.
Bob was a member of a member of the Bradford Blue Lodge 749 F&AM, and the Orak Gratto.

As TFABP is celebrating its 15th year, they are proudly sponsoring a spectacular fireworks display expected to last over 20 minutes. TO help cover the costs, Fillhart’s Friendly Inn is hosting a 50/50 raffle. Tickets can be purchased now at the Inn, offering one chance for $1 and ten chances for $5. The raffle winner will be drawn at 8:45 PM on Saturday evening, and all proceeds will go to the TFABP Fireworks Fund.
Additionally, Fillhart’s Friendly Inn will donate $1 from every pizza sold on Saturday, July 22, to the To Fill a Backpack Fireworks Fund. The Inn actively gives back to the community through various donations and sponsorships, sponsoring local youth athletics, community organizations, and local events.
