Galeton July 2023 Weather Report
July 2023 was a fairly normal July. We missed most of the predicted heavy storms with damaging winds, large hail and torrential rainfalls. Most mornings were cloudy with temperatures ranging from the high 50’s to the high 60’s. The afternoons warmed into the low to mid 80’s. I did note a 90 degree reading on the 29th. We did have 17 foggy mornings, 7 thunderstorms a damaging wind and hail event on the 19th. Normal readings for July look like this. High 78 and low 56 degrees.
The average rainfall for the month is 4.27″ We received 4.37″ Last year the reading was 2.37″
Pine Creek looks healthier, however we are still short on rainfall for the year. Nevertheless, the grass is growing which allows everyone to get out and mow.

DEP to Host Informational Meeting Regarding Proposed Sandstone, Sand, and Gravel Mine in Athens Township, Bradford County
Williamsport, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) will host a public informational meeting to answer questions and accept comments from residents regarding the proposed Minard Mine located in Athens Township, Bradford County. The meeting will take place on Monday, July 31, 2023, from 6-8 PM at the Athens Area High School Auditorium, located at 401 W Frederick Street, Athens, PA 18810. Representatives from DEP and the applicant, Bishop Brothers Construction Company, Inc. (“Bishop Brothers”), will be present at the meeting to answer questions and accept public comments.
Antoinette M. “Toni” Kilhoffer, 94, of Ridgway, PA

Antoinette M. “Toni” Kilhoffer, 94, of Ridgway, PA passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 30, 2023, at Penn Highlands Elk.
She was born on June 3, 1929 in Ridgway, PA, a daughter of the late Joseph and Lena Caggeso Viglione.
On March 12, 1953, she married the late Louis Kilhoffer, who preceded her in death on July 6, 1996. Together they were blessed with 43 years of marriage.
Patricia J. Duretto, age 84, of Wellsboro, PA

Patricia J. Duretto, age 84, of Wellsboro, PA passed away on Sunday, July 30, 2023 at Broad Acres Nursing Home in Wellsboro.
Born June 25, 1939 in Farmington Twp.,PA, she was the daughter of the late William H. and Marion “Elsie” (Puffer) Thompson.
Patricia was preceded in death by her husband, Louis W. Duretto on May 16, 2020.
Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

Mary Beth Swarner, age 64, of Sabinsville, PA

Mary Beth Swarner, age 64, of Sabinsville, PA, passed away at her home on Friday, July 28, 2023.
Born November 7, 1958 in West Chester, PA, she was the daughter of the late John and Bea (Tally) Trego. Mary Beth married Lloyd G. Swarner, Jr., they shared 43 years together and raised six children.
She was a CNA and medical transcriptionist in Wellsboro for many years.
Evelyn L. Dibble, age 81, of Westfield, PA

Evelyn L. Dibble, age 81, of Westfield, PA passed away on Friday, July 28, 2023 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY.
Born March 24, 1942 in Westfield, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Clara (Bradt) Howard.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond R. Dibble in 2005.
Per Evelyn’s request there will be no services at this time.
Burial will be in Brookfield Cemetery.

Donald M. Davies, 85, of Marvin Street, Smethport, PA

Donald M. Davies, 85, of Marvin Street, Smethport, PA passed away, Friday, July 28, 2023 at the Bradford Manor.
Born on April 21, 1938, in Alliance, OH, he was the son of the late Donald Earl and Cornelia (McDowell) Davies. On September 3, 1962, he married Paula Karen (Conklin) Davies, who preceded him in death on July 23, 2019.
After graduating high school he enlisted in the United States Navy on June 19, 1956. He was stationed overseas for three years of his enlistment, and he was honorably discharged on June 24, 1960.
He helped to rebuild Camp Cornplanter after it was moved from the Kinzua Valley to Scandia. He later managed the Elk Lick Boy Scout Camp in Farmers Valley where he became the ranger in 1972 to 1983. Don later worked as a finish carpenter for Dugan & Dugan Construction in Allegany, NY.
Francis “Fran” Johnson, 85, of Ridgway, PA

Francis “Fran” Johnson, 85, of Ridgway, PA died on Sunday, July 30, 2023, at his residence following a brief illness.
He was born on February 26, 1938, in Ridgway, a son of the late Rudy and Cecelia Gier. On April 20, 2005, he married Barbara Snyder, who survives.

BRADFORD, PA – On Friday, July 28, team members from Bradford Regional Medical Center (BRMC), a member of Upper Allegheny Health System (UAHS), presented Destinations Bradford with a $19,281.00 check to benefit the local Bradford fire victims.
Families displaced by the recent fires in Bradford that registered with Destinations will receive support from the proceeds that were raised.
Resurfacing Project Set to Begin Tomorrow on Route 6 in Mansfield Borough, Richmond and Sullivan Townships, Tioga County
Montoursville, PA – Motorists are advised of that a resurfacing project is set to begin tomorrow on Route 6 in Mansfield Borough, Richmond and Sullivan townships, Tioga County.
On Tuesday, August 1, 2023, the contractor Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc., will begin work on Route 6 between Academy Street in Mansfield Borough and Strange Road east of Mainesburg, Sullivan Township. Motorists can expect alternating lane restrictions where work is being performed. Work will be performed during daylight hours.

If so, then you need to know how to create worksheets to manage, store, organize, and even analyze this information. Excel, Microsoft’s powerful spreadsheet software, is the most widely used program for these tasks, and most workplaces want new employees to have a basic understanding of Microsoft Excel.
Introduction to Excel will introduce you to the program’s basic functions and uses. You will learn a number of shortcuts for setting up worksheets quickly and efficiently and will get tips on sorting and analyzing data. By the time you’re done, you will know how to use this important tool.
In Intermediate Excel, you will take a deeper dive into Excel’s capabilities, including learning about data analysis tools and how to create macros that allow the manipulation of data and eliminate repetitive tasks. If you use Excel regularly and want to learn more advanced functions in this powerful software, this class is for you.
These classes, taught by Ron Keeney, Professor in the Computer Science Department at Alfred State College of Technology, are scheduled for Thursdays, August 3 and August 10, respectively, from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the Education Council’s Coudersport office at 5 Water Street.
