Emporium/Coudersport, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Potter and Cameron County Maintenance announces the following work schedule for the week of August 14 – August 18, 2023, weather permitting. Motorists should travel with extra caution in these and all work areas. Motorists should be aware that due to the nature of highway maintenance and emergency work, crews could be working on any highway at any time of the day or night.

Bridge Deck Replacement: Road Closed/Detour in Place tentatively Friday, August 18th

- State Route: 1001 (Sweden Valley – Brookland)
Shoulder Repair:

The following work is scheduled to be completed by contractor, weather permitting:
Patriot Tree Surgeons-
State Route: 244 (Andrew Settlement – Genesee)
Traffic control: Traffic along 244 will be utilizing flaggers during work hours.
Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc– Roadway Repair
State Route: 6 (Port Allegany to Coudersport) Contractors will continue with roadway repairs and drainage upgrades.
Traffic control: Traffic along SR 6 will be utilizing flaggers during work hours; multiple work zones may be in project area.
LTT Trucking LLC– Bridge Replacement
State Route: 449 (Brookland Road)
Traffic control: Traffic along 449 will be utilizing flaggers during work hours.
Dean Construction LLC– Bridge Replacement
State Route: 44 (Intersection of Tennessee Road)
Traffic control: Bridge will be closed, and the temporary roadway will carry traffic around the work zone.
Barbara Moscato Brown Memorial Library Board Meeting
The Barbara Moscato Brown Memorial Library Board of Trustees will hold a impromptu board meeting on Monday, August 14, 2023 at 3p.m. in the library multipurpose room located at 27 West 4th Street, Emporium. As with all meetings, this one is open to the public. Anyone interested in attending should let library staff know by calling 814-486-8011.
Closure of County Road #2 and #2B in the Town of West Almond
Please be advised that Allegany County DPW will have daily road closures as follows:

- County Road #2B approximately ¼ mile south of County Road #2 on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, and;
- County Road #2 approximately ¼ mile west of County Road #2B on Wednesday, August 16, 2023.
The roads will only be closed during working hours (7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.) and will be opened back up each night. There will not be an on-site detour and motorists are urged to seek alternate routes. Thank you for your cooperation.

Gilbert E. Lentz, Sr., of Sartwell Creek Rd., Port Allegany, PA

Gilbert E. Lentz, Sr., of Sartwell Creek Rd., Port Allegany, PA passed away Sunday (Aug. 6, 2023) in his home, from injuries sustained from a fire.
Born February 9, 1948, in Coudersport, he was a son of Richard F. and Marcia Lininger Lentz. In 1968 he married Patricia Anthony Lentz. In 1998, he married Lynn Reese, who died Sept. 30, 2016.
Gilbert was a setup mechanic having worked for Emporium Specialties and Keystone Automatic of Emporium, before his retirement.
“Hawk” Arrested On Drug Charges in Olean
City of Olean, NY Police Department

Lavelle Sotero A.K.A. ” Hawk,” age 38, of 3281 Rt 16 North, Olean was arrested yesterday on an Indictment Warrant for Criminal Sale of a controlled substance 3rd, ( B Felony ) and Criminal possession of a controlled substance 3rd ( B Felony ) for selling Crack Cocaine.
Sotero was arrested at 554 Martha Ave. and was turned over to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff to await further Court proceedings. The Street Crimes Unit was assisted by our Patrol unit and the Southern tier regional drug task force.

Charles W. Hollingshead, 75, of Warren, PA

Charles W. Hollingshead, 75, of Warren, PA, who suffered from and ultimately succumbed to complications of agent orange, on Tuesday evening, August 8, 2023, with his wife at his side.
Chuck was born January 31, 1948, in Warren, PA. He was the son of Charles W. and Angeline R. Musante Hollingshead, Sr.
PennDOT Reopens Route 244 Near Oswayo
Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) updated drivers on a box culvert replacement project in Potter County. Replacing the box, which spans Tyler Hollow Run along Route 244 approximately two miles east of Oswayo, improved the structure’s overall condition from “poor” to “good.”
Crews reopened Route 244 between the intersections of Route 4025 (Brizzie Hollow Road) and Route 4011 (Peet Brook Road) this afternoon and lifted the detour implemented on July 27.
