JOURNEY HEALTH SYSTEM ANNUAL BOARD MEETING RESULTS
BRADFORD, Pa (October 13, 2023)– Journey Health System (JHS) and their affiliates held their annual Board meeting on October 13, 2023, at the main JHS office located in Bradford, Pennsylvania. Over 30 individuals from each agency’s Board, executive team members and guest speakers gathered remotely and in-person for the election of officers and to review the fiscal year. The theme of this year’s meeting was “Working Together for You”.
Journey Health System provides administrative support for the following behavioral health affiliates: Beacon Light Behavioral Health System (BLBHS); Beacon Light Adult Residential Services (BLARS); Deerfield Behavioral Health (DBH); Dickinson Center, Inc. (DCI); Forest-Warren Mental Wellness Association (FWMWA) and Stairways Behavioral Health (SBH). The JHS Board of Directors is comprised of representatives from each organization which deliver mental health care to a total of 23 counties across Pennsylvania.
Journey Health System’s President and CEO Guy Signor welcomed attendees to the meeting prior to presentations by each affiliate’s executive director regarding last year’s results. Additionally, the guest speaker Scott Nick of J.L. Nick & Associates presented, “The State of Human Resources Today”.
The annual meeting’s proceedings and Board elections were conducted by Journey Health System’s Board Chair Gregory LaRocca.

James Henry Bogdan, 71, of Otto Township, Pa., died Saturday (Oct. 14, 2023) at Olean General Hospital with his family by his side, after a battle with multiple myeloma.
Born to Henry and Dorothy Bogdan on Jan. 6, 1952, in Buffalo, Jim was a 1970 graduate of Canisius High School. He studied geology at SUNY Fredonia and moved to Pennsylvania to work in the oil fields. There, he worked for Piper Well Surveys Inc., Gearhart Wireline Inc., Kmart, Belden & Blake, and Catalyst Energy. Post-retirement, he worked for Metz at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.

John Stephen Kohut, age 82, of Elkland, PA passed away at his home on Sunday, October 15, 2023.
Born April 3, 1941 in Corning, NY, he was the son of the late John J. and Frances M. (Piecuch) Kohut.
John graduated from the University of Cincinnati and built his career as a Software Engineering Manager with Control Data Corporation, where he was highly regarded among his peers, upper management, and those who worked for him.
During his time in California, he was recognized for his years of service by holding the title of Chairman Emeritus of the Loaves & Fishes Family Kitchen in San Jose, CA.

Committed to the Franciscan charism, Sister lived for 83 years as a devoted member of the Allegany Franciscan Sisters sharing her life in community and ministry.

Born on July 31, 1952, in Buffalo, she was a daughter of Frederick and Loretta M. Lederhouse Witt, Sr. On July 5, 1975, in Scio, she married Burton J. Weatherly who survives.
Donna worked as a one-on-one Aide in multiple schools, had been a clerk at the Uni-Mart in Cuba and last was a personal care aide for the Rehabilitation Center in Olean.

Jane was a graduate of Bangor High School, Class of 1971, in Bangor, Pa. She was employed as a school bus driver for STA-Krise Bus Company in Bangor and also had been employed as a school bus driver for David Ebeling in Shinglehouse.
Jane loved her cats and dogs. She was an avid gardener and loved studying the Bible. Jane took care of and fed Bwana Jim’s many animals while he was away doing his shows.

She was born December 26, 1964, in St. Marys, daughter of Donald Cunningham, who survives of St. Marys, and the late Carol Roth Cunningham. She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of St. Marys Area High School, Class of 1984. Deborah worked as a housekeeper at the Best Western Hotel.
In July of 1987, in St. Marys, Deborah married Keith A. VanAlstine, who survives.

Patrick Stewart Fargo, 59, of Bradford, PA passed away Friday, October 13, 2023 at the Olean General Hospital, after a long illness.
Born December 28, 1963, in Bradford, he was a son of the late Bruce C. and Beverly J. (Yard) Fargo.
He was a 1982 graduate of Limestone Union Free School, where he played varsity football and was proud to wear the “88” Jersey. He also played baseball and basketball.
On March 2, 2013, in Limestone, NY, he married Patricia Ann (Dewyer) Fargo who survives.
He was employed at Bush Industries and retired as a CNC Machine Operator at W. R.Case Cutlery.
Seneca Highlands IU9 Chooses NPRC as Provider for Paraprofessional Pathways Program
SMETHPORT, Pa. – Seneca Highlands Intermediate Unit IX (IU9) has chosen Northern Pennsylvania Regional College as the two-year educational provider for the Paraprofessionals Pathway Program. This program will begin in January at the beginning of the Spring 2024 term. This program is designed to assist current paraprofessionals in the IU9 service area with earning valuable special education preparedness and eventually a special education bachelor’s degree at a four-year institution.
IU9 partnered with NPRC as their community college partner because NPRC’s delivery model is flexible and accessible to students across the 10-county service area. Seneca Highlands IU9 includes 14 school districts in Cameron, Elk, McKean, and Potter counties. NPRC’s learning model can cater to students from across this region in different classrooms; making it possible for students from various communities to attend class at a location close to them.
The program was made possible after IU9 was awarded the Paraeducator Preparation Pathways grant funding through a program from Governor Shapiro. The grant provides 1.5 million dollars for paraeducators to enhance their special education credentials and knowledge. According to the grant, this initiative will create new special education career pathways for paraeducators; increase the number of practicing paraeducators earning certifications, and/or postsecondary credits/degrees; and increase the number of practicing paraeducators pursuing Pre-K-12 special education teacher certification through enrollment in a Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) approved special education Pre-K-12 certification program.

Senior citizens and all Pennsylvanians are being warned to be on the lookout for a new scam called “The Phantom Hacker,” which involves convincing victims that their financial accounts have been hacked.
According to the FBI, perpetrators of the Phantom Hacker scheme gain the trust of victims in three phases: First, they pose as a tech support representative and convince the victim to download a piece of software. Then they call a second time, pretending to be from the victim’s bank or another financial institution. Finally, they claim to be an employee of a federal agency. The goal of the scam is to convince people to move their money into an “alias” account, where the scammers can steal it. The scam can include emails, texts, phone calls and even letters sent via the U.S. Postal Service.

Cuba Police Department Arrests Cuba Resident on Drug Charges

On October 12th, 2023 at approximately 9:12PM, following a traffic stop, Cuba Police arrested Tiffany R. Armstrong (40) of Cuba. Armstrong was arrested on charges of move from lane unsafely (Violation), driving while ability impaired by drugs (Felony), criminal possession of a controlled substance 7th (misdemeanor), criminal possession of a controllled substance with intent to sell 3rd (Felony, 2 counts).
These charges stem from Armstrong allegedly being in possession of methanephetamine, fentanyl and cocaine. Armstrong was issued citations and released to appear at a later date due to no judge being available in the county. Armostrong is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

People of all ages are welcome. The event will be hosted in light rain, but will be cancelled if there are thunderstorms or downpours.

HORNE HALL PARKING LOT TEMPORARILY CLOSED
BRADFORD, Pa. – Starting today, the parking lot of Marilyn Horne Hall in downtown Bradford will be closed during the demolition of the former Sehman’s Tire Service on East Corydon Street.
Demolition is expected to be finished by the end of November, when the site will be used for the Area Transportation Authority’s new Bradford Multimodal Facility.
Street parking on Marilyn Horne Way or South Avenue will not be affected. Parking will be available at 5 W. Corydon St., the southwest corner at the intersection of South Avenue and West Corydon Street.
The parking lot at Marilyn Horne Hall will reopen as soon as safety allows.

Vehicle Crash With Heavy Entrapment on Rt. 44 North of Coudersport

This morning at 0741 Hours, the department was dispatched for a Vehicle Accident in the 1200 block of Route 44 North in Hebron Township.
Chief 48-10(T. Ostroski) responded and upon his arrival, located a Single-Vehicle Crash off the roadway into the trees with the occupant heavily trapped and requested Air Medical to the scene.
Engine 48-3 and Rescue 48 responded and upon their arrival immediately placed their HURST Jaws of Lifetools into service, working to free the occupant. Crews continued to work strenuously, flapping the roof, opening up the driver’s side of the vehicle and rolling the dash, while EMS provided medical treatment.
The occupant was removed from the vehicle, marking the extrication complete within 10 minutes. The patient was then packaged and placed in the awaiting ambulance to be transported by ground to UPMC Cole as all aircraft declined to fly due to weather.
The scene was then turned over to PSP Coudersport and PennDOT to control traffic. The department returned to service at 0932 Hours.
