BRADFORD, PA – The Bradford Regional Medical Center School of Radiography held its graduation ceremony on August 17 at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.
Jeanne Capra, MHA, RT, program director, BRMC School of Radiography, served as master of ceremonies and Tim Moran, RT, Cath Lab Technologist, Olean General Hospital (OGH), offered remarks to the graduates.
The graduating class of 2023 was presented diplomas by Alixandra Coon, BS, RT, clinical coordinator, and Mark Welch, MD, medical advisor. The graduating class of 2023 included Makailla Carnessali, Johnsonburg, PA; Madison Correll, Chemung, NY; Carlie Hathaway, Jamestown, NY; and Jolaina Shetler, Mount Jewett, PA.

Patrick M. Ekas, 71, of Bradford, PA passed away on Monday, July 17, 2023 at his home.
Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service at 11:30 AM on Saturday, August 26th at the Grace Lutheran Church with visitation to be held from 10:30 to 11:30 in the church. A small luncheon will follow the funeral service.

Angela M. Morelli, 90, of Ridgway, PA
Angela M. Morelli, 90, of Ridgway, PA died on Monday, August 21, 2023, at Elk Haven Nursing Home following a brief illness.
She was born on October 23, 1932, a daughter of the late Joseph and Dolores Schiano Ambrosia.
On June 20, 1953, she married the late Victor Morelli, who preceded her in death in January 2012.
Christopher Danias, 71, of Bradford, PA
Christopher Danias, 71, of Bradford, PA passed away Monday, Aug. 21, 2023, at Hamot Medical Center, Erie.
He was born Nov. 11, 1951, a son of the late James K. and Frances H. Danias.
He was a 1969 graduate of Bradford Senior High School.
Chris’s love of playing the drums began in his teens. ……
The most active and successful band Chris played with was Railway Express, which was active from 1973 to 1977, playing five to six nights a week. The band toured Western and Upstate New York, all of Pennsylvania, and multiple cities in Ohio. He also had fond memories of playing with the bands West, John David’s Mood and the Hartle Brothers.
Chris inherited his love of cooking from his parents, whose diner The Famous Lunch was a Mechanic Street staple in Bradford for decades and known for its Greek hot dog sauce.
ELK CAM BACK FOR ANOTHER SEASON
With the September peak of Pennsylvania’s elk rut right around the corner, you can get a jumpstart on viewing some of those bugling bulls through the Game Commission’s Elk Cam.
The Game Commission again has installed a camera on State Game Lands 311 in Elk County, in a field that typically is a hub of elk activity, as the bugling season heats up. Video and sound from the camera are being livestreamed at www.pgc.pa.gov, and viewers can expect not only to see elk, but turkeys, deer, possibly a bear, and other wildlife as well.

We are still on voluntary water usage. The well has to be at 38 ft. before we can lift that status and we are at 35 ft. right now. With that being said I had some of the highest water/sewer bills then I have seen in months. We ask you again to please be mindful of your water usage so we can get the well up to 38 ft. Thank you to those who are cooperating with our request.
Open Arms to host gathering at Kinzua Beach
Open Arms Church of Bradford will hold a service, baptism and picnic on Sunday, Aug. 27, at Kinzua Beach.
The service is set to begin at 11 a.m. on Forest Road 617 in Mead Township, between Bradford and Warren, located across Route 59 from the Marina.
The service will feature music and a message preceding the baptism; all attending are asked to bring a chair. Following the baptism at Kinzua Beach, a cookout lunch will be served, and attendees are encouraged to bring a dish to share.
Pastor Zoe Hatcher said that the church is excited about preparing to take the church on the road again. This will be the third year the church has hosted a service at Kinzua Beach, though they have performed baptisms there for many years.

How many times do we encounter hearing impaired people and wish that we could communicate with them? As we age, we gradually lose some of our hearing. Sign language can help. Also, mothers of pre-lingual children can use sign language as a tool with their little ones. Here is your opportunity to learn basic sign language that could help you or someone you care about.
Basic Sign Language will cover beginning sign language, the alphabet, conversational phrases and a variety of commonly used signs. In addition, basic facts essential to the correct use of the language will be addressed. A dedicated student could learn as many as 800 signs and understand signing and interpreting rules, basic deaf culture, and medical situations that cause deafness and loss of hearing.
Ronald G. Silvis, 71, of Eldred, PA
Smethport – Ronald G. Silvis, 71, of Eldred, PA entered heaven Monday (August 21, 2023) at UPMC Williamsport.
He was born May 31, 1952 in Olean, NY, the son of Edward and Mary (Acre) Silvis . On December 26, 1970, in Coryville, PA, he married the love of his life, Katherine G. Austin, who survives. They were married 52 years.
Mr. Silvis was a graduate of Otto- Eldred High School and served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Mt. Whitney from 1970 to 1974.
Ron held several jobs over the years, but ultimately worked as a corrections officer at the McKean County Jail before retiring due to health issues.
Sylvia B. Herzog, 93, of Smethport, PA
Sylvia B. Herzog, 93, of Smethport, PA passed away peacefully on August 17, 2023 at Lakeview Senior Care and Rehabilitation Center, Smethport.
Born on October 18, 1929 in Burlington, VT, she was the daughter of the late Frank H. and Elizabeth (Hitchcock) Blakeslee.
She attended the Day School in New Haven, CT, the Grier School in Birmingham, PA and graduated from Goucher College in 1952.
On June 14, 1952 at the Edgewood Congregational Church in New Haven, CT, she married James R. Herzog, who preceded her in death on September 29, 2021.
She taught in the Smethport School as a gym teacher.

Freida K. Gardner, 94, of Montmorenci Road, Ridgway, PA passed away surrounded by her family on Monday, August 21, 2023, at Penn Highlands Dubois after a brief illness.
She was born on December 24, 1928, in Ridgway, a daughter of the late Samuel and Virginia Adams Luchs. On April 2, 1955, she married the late Raymond Gardner.
Freida was a woman of strong faith and always leaned on God to help her raise her family. Her faith and family were always the most important to her.

Douglas H. Green, 42, of Ash St., Kane, PA passed away unexpectedly Saturday (Aug. 19) at his residence.
Born June 30, 1981 in Port Allegany, he is the son of Philip and Harvetta (Gummo) Green Sr.
Doug did small engine repair work and when he wasn’t doing that he enjoyed riding on his four wheeler. He was a true Jack of All Trades.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by one son, Noah Green of Kane; five sisters, Marie Nunley of OK, Carla Sherwood of Smethport, Elaine (Jeff) Ostrander of Port Allegany, Melisa Green and Jean Green both of Kane and one brother Philip (Jill) Green Jr. of Kane.
PennDOT Announces Utility Work on Hickox/Ulysses Road
Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced the potential for delays on Route 1011 (Hickox/Ulysses Road) in Bingham Township, Potter County, later this week as Michels Pipeline, Inc., of Harrisburg, PA, completes excavation work for a natural gas line on behalf of National Fuel.
Starting Thursday, August 24, Michels will reduce traffic to a single lane between the intersections of Route 1013 (Bingham Center Road) and Whitney Hill Road. Flaggers in the roadway will enforce an alternating traffic pattern. Michels anticipates completing the work by the end of the week. PennDOT expects traffic impacts to be minimal but urges drivers to stay alert and to build extra time into their travel schedules to compensate.
Resurfacing Project Continues on Route 15 and Beauty’s Run Road in Lycoming County
Montoursville, PA – Motorists are advised that a resurfacing project continues on Route 15 and Route 3026 (Beauty’s Run Road) in The City of Williamsport and Old Lycoming, Lycoming, and Lewis townships, Lycoming County.
On Saturday, August 26, the contractor, HRI Corporation, will be working on the Route 15 southbound structure over Route 220 in the City of Williamsport. Motorists can expect alternating lane restrictions where work is being performed. Work will be performed during daylight hours.
Lawmakers Seek to Hold Telecommunications Utilities Accountable
HARRISBURG – A group of state House lawmakers representing primarily rural areas of the Commonwealth has introduced a package of six bills aimed at holding telecommunications companies accountable to their customers. Some of the measures come in response to a series of public input hearings hosted by the Public Utility Commission (PUC) in Tioga, Bradford and Wyoming counties.
The lawmakers include Reps. Clint Owlett (R-Tioga/Bradford), Tina Pickett (R-Bradford/Wyoming), Marty Causer (R-Cameron/McKean/Potter), Joe Hamm (R-Lycoming/Sullivan), Jonathan Fritz (R-Susquehanna/Wayne) and Alec Ryncavage (R-Luzerne).
“Many people in our rural communities cannot even rely on their basic landline telephone service, let alone internet. It’s a public safety issue and an economic issue, as well as a basic customer service issue,” said Owlett. “It’s time to hold these utility companies accountable to the people who are paying for service month after month, never knowing for sure if it’s going to work from one day to the next.”
Owlett noted many issues lawmakers hope to address came to light during public input hearings held by the PUC in early June in response to a formal complaint filed against Frontier Communications by the state Office of Consumer Advocate and Office of Small Business Advocate.

Wanted Fugitive Arrested in Bradford, PA
Description On 08/18.2023 at approximately 1825 hrs, City of Bradford Police responded to 3 Kiwanis Court Apartment 3A to investigate a report there was a wanted fugitive Kenneth Bell hiding inside.
Officers did confirm Bell had and active arrest warrant out of the City for simple assault and an active McKean County Bench Warrant for failure to appear. Officers were able to enter the residence and found Bell hiding in a closet area.
Bell was taken into custody and arraigned by Magistrate Richard Luther. Bell was remanded to McKean County Jail on $25,000 cash bail. Preliminary hearings are set in the matter.

Wellsville Police arrested James R. Waters, age 36 of Wellsville, charging him with Criminal Obstruction of Breathing or Circulation (Class A Misdemeanor) and Harassment 2nd (Violation). The charges stem from an incident that took place on Trapping Brook Road on August 19th. Waters was processed and arraigned before Wellsville Village Justice Thompson. Waters was released and is due back in Wellsville Village Court on September 19th at 4:30 pm.
