She is in the morning session of the Early Childhood Education program at the Seneca Highlands Career and Technical Center. Alana is a senior enrolled at Port Allegany High School. Upon graduation, Alana would like to pursue her teaching certificate in special education.
Coudersport Rotary Club hosted Dr. Kyle Freeman as a guest speaker at our August 31, 2023, meeting at A&W West End Grill.
Dr. Freeman is a Captain in the Army National Guard and just returned from a deployment to Poland in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve.
He graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in June 2021 and was an associate with an Iowa Chiropractic practice until he was deployed to Poland in July 2022.
Dr. Freeman recently opened Allegheny Mountain Wellness in Coudersport, PA. His business hours aren’t finalized yet as he is trying to gauge his customer’s needs. He’s open Monday through Friday and weekends by appointment.
ServSafe is a certification program developed by the Restaurant Association Education Foundation. The course meets certification requirements for individuals who are responsible for the safe handling of food in restaurants, schools, elder care facilities, lodges, bed and breakfasts, community centers, and other food concessions (organizations or businesses that sell or prepare food on a regular basis).
This course, taught by Rick Kralj, Penn State Educator, is scheduled for Mondays, September 25 and October 2, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Education Council’s Coudersport office. Pennsylvania College of Technology teams and individuals in several fall sports had impressive outings over the past week:
Men’s/women’s cross-country
On Saturday at the United East Preview, the men’s team posted its first victory since Oct. 13, 2017, as it scored 41 points to top an 11-team field. Its last conference championship came in 2012 when it was a member of the Penn State University Athletic Conference, capping a 10-year championship run. Also, on Saturday, the women’s squad was sixth of nine teams.
Mitchell Campbell, of Riegelsville, led the men with a fourth-place individual finish in 29:08 over an 8K course and freshman Elaina Brady, of Big Cove Tannery, finished 13th in 33:22 over a 6K course to lead the women.
“Our entire men’s top seven ran well on a challenging course. They grouped together well. It was a quality mid-season effort,” second-year coach Tom Leeser said.
Wellsville Police arrested Dominica R. Howells, age 24, of Cuba, charging her with Criminal Mischief 3rd (Class E Felony) and Grand Larceny 4th (Class E Felony).
The charges stem from an incident that took place on Chamberlain Street in July. Howells was processed and arraigned before Wellsville Village Justice Thompson. Howells was released under pre-trial release conditions with the Allegany County Probation Department. Howells is due back in Wellsville Village Court on October 3rd at 4:30 pm.

“Bicycle Bob” Robert W. Williams, 79, of Wellsville, New York passed away Friday, September 15, 2023, at his daughter’s home surrounded by family.
Born on July 3, 1944, in Olean, he was a son of Dorr O. and Violet Burrows Williams Sr. On June 10, 1980, in Obi, he married the former Cindy R. Brockel who predeceased him on May 26, 2004.
He had worked at St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Mt. View Cemetery, and for Work and Silvas Construction Company. Bob was known for riding his bicycle all around Olean and Cuba and would collect pop cans wherever he went. During the winter months, he would shovel snow and with better weather would mow lawns and do landscaping work. He was well-known and loved.
At the age of 97, Rick peacefully passed away. He was a retired mechanical engineer. He is the son of the late Florence Lus Ring and James Ring. He was married to Brenda Ring.
Devoted father to Terrie Butts (Randy) and stepfather to Debra White (Thomas), Wayne Bradley (Krista), Ronald Bradley (Mary Beck), Kenneth Gable (Deborah), Pam Rocheford (Michael Camp).
Loving grandfather to Jesse Davis (Jayme), Susie Bailey (Kyle), Bob Butts (Alexandria), Kyle Butts (Shandi) and 11 step-grandchildren.
Adoring great-grandfather to Anthony Butts, Olivia Bailey, Rory Davis, Gavin Bailey, Nova Bailey, KJ Butts, Selena Butts, 12 step-great grandchildren and 7 step-great-great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by Patricia Ring (first wife) and Robert & Shirley Ring (brother & sister-in-law).
He was a member of Winter Haven Christian Church. He was an avid fisherman and always enjoyed a good fresh fish fry.
The burial will be at Chestnut Hill Cemetery in Portville, NY.

At 1:40 PM on Sunday, Kane Fire & Ambulance has been called to Janeway & Hacker Streets for a bicyclist struck by a motor vehicle. Dispatch reports a 15-year-old bicyclist ran into a vehicle. The patient is up and walking around.
Jason Michael Gallik, of Erie, PA, passed away on Monday, September 11, 2023.
Born in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of Robert Thomas Gallik and Robin Lynn (Pratt) Gallik.
Jason was very outgoing and quick to help anyone in need. He loved to laugh and live life light-heartedly. He was a ray of sunshine to everyone around him. Jason graduated from Bradford High School, Class of 2006.
He was an Assistant Manager at various Perkins restaurants, and loved being around people.
The Port Allegany VMI (Veterans Memorial, Inc.) presents Touch a Truck, Sunday, September 17 from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. at the VMI located at 4743 Route #155 in Port Allegany.
